We recently purchased a mattress from the Sleep Factory and we love it. Their prices are very reasonable and there was definitely wiggle room on the advertised price. Selection is pretty limited, but I liked the lack of bells and whistles. There was little to no pressure from the sales staff. We purchased a super firm mattress from them, something we had a hard time finding at other mattress stores. My issue with Sleep Factory is with the after sales. Delivery was a mess. The delivery man pulled up in a minivan with the mattress strapped to the top. He was several hours late beyond the window we were given and if my husband hadn’t helped him, I am positive our mattress, floors, and walls would’ve been damaged during the delivery. I had to tell him several times to be careful and stop scratching our hardwood. He charged $ 20 to put the bed frame together and then asked me for the tools so that he could do it. Had I known what a crappy job he was going to do I would’ve done it myself. The only reason I didn’t was that we had guests over and were entertaining. Our delivery window was sometime before 1pm, he showed up at 5:30. Also, to charge for a service but have the homeowner provide the tools is kind of rubbish. The bed frame was really poorly put together. I’ve since had to take it apart and redo it as the boxsprings were not sitting straight, so the bed creaked anytime we made even the smallest movement. Delivery was free, but I would’ve happily paid for a more professional delivery. The $ 20 for the bed frame install was a waste of money, also the store made no mention of this added cost when we purchased the bed. I don’t mind paying, I just have a hard paying for crap. Ultimately we have a mattress that we are very happy with, so I can definitely recommend the mattresses here. I cannot recommend their delivery and install. It was a disaster. For the record, I did bring it up with the store, they apologized and I accepted the apology. I was not offered a reimbursement of my $ 20 nor did they offer to repair the barely held together bed frame. I really hope they’ve taken my experience to heart and changed how they handle their after sales. Taking my money and then not giving af afterwards is not really cool.

The Sleep Factory is a Canadian chain that has 9 showrooms in Ontario. The showroom that I shop at is on Kennedy Road. This showroom is located right at the heart of a «furniture and home furnishing» hub in Scarborough. Its looks is unassuming to say the least. The selection is large. When I visited it last year(2012), it was located at a larger store; it has moved to a smaller store in the same mall in 2013. The first time I shopped here, the store featured many mattresses, twin and double, that were manufactured by itself(the SF brand) in Ontario using mainly materials from North America. They also carried a limited selection from Sealy and King Coil. Overall, the product range was from low to mid end mattress. The combined value of pricing(cheaper than The Brick, Sleep Country, Sears and The Bad Boy) and quality(much better than the higher priced mattresses of the said four stores) impressed us. We negotiated and bought a SF branded twin mattress for less than $ 200. We returned the second time to buy another SF twin mattress as there was no point to shop around. The third time I shopped here was in 2013. They moved to the next store in the same mall. The product mix has changed to focus more on name brands such as Sealy, Serta, King Coil and Stearns and Foster. The SF branded mattresses are located at the back of the store. The salesman told me that the chain has a change in focus to match the market demand. I bought a Serta double euro-top mattress after I had negotiated the price down to $ 400, tax inclusive(I think this is less expansive than other places). I have to say that the salesman is knowledgeable without being pushy, and he is very prepared to negotiate. All in all, I recommend this store if you are looking for a low to mid priced mattress, such as less than $ 1000(even for King size mattress). Its SF brand mattresses are very well made and of good value. I highly recommend them.
