This was one of those experiences were you say, «That could have been better, but I would go back.» The location of this store, plus the growing hatred I have of the Ten Spot Queen West, led me to decide to give it a shot. My co-worker had gone and had a positive experience, so despite the poor Unilocal reviews, I thought it couldn’t hurt to try(no pun intended). I tried to use their online system on my phone to book, but it didn’t work, so I had to use my desktop computer to finalize the booking. Keep in mind they will email you a BILLION times before your appointment, so definitely use an email that you don’t mind receiving confirmation at. I arrived for my appointment and filled out a pretty simple form, not sure what the point of it was, just stating my information and who recommended me(they get $ 5 off their next visit). I wasn’t offered water or anything else. I just waited around until my appointment time. What frustrated me was that they knew it was my first time there and they gave me someone who actually works at another location — so if I liked her, I can never use her again, I have to use someone new. I think for first timers that you want to build a customer base with, you should give them someone they can form a relationship with. The experience was quite different than Ten Spot. As others have said, they just turned around while you undress, which didn’t bother me – I asked why they do this, and she said it was for liability reasons since there’s so much hot wax in the room. I think it’s just to save time, personally. There are no frills at this place — no little towel to cover you, no pre-or-post cream or powder to ease the pain, and not even a bathroom! So go in with low expectations. It still seemed clean though. The wax was painful but fast, and I think the job was on par with what I’d get at Ten Spot. I happened to check in on Unilocal while I was waiting and noticed they have a check in deal, which made me pleasantly surprised! The cost was about $ 10 – 15 cheaper than Ten Spot in the end, and I found the experience equal, so I’d go back. I do wish they’d given me someone I could request again, because now the anxiety of not knowing the person is duplicated.

got my eyebrows done with shima. probably the worst ever. first thing first, the wax is too hot and she already put it near my eyebrow, this result in irritated eyebrow area. she leaves my eyebrow red and swollen. without any soothing cream or even powder to cover my redness. worst. not going back to her anymore.

Why don’t the estheticians leave the room when you undress and hop on the table? But seriously? I know that they’re going to see what they’re going to see anyways, but it’s still awkward to have a stranger watch you strip down. Been here a few times and while the location is convenient, the waxing is never thorough and they waxes are always pushing products on you. No thanks.

Oh WAXON… how I loath you… This is a long review, so if you don’t feel like reading, just skip to the last paragraphs. Alright, so my first experience at Waxon was pretty good. I was so happy to have found a place so close to where I work to get a good eyebrow threading done. So happy, in fact, that I bought the«Wax to the Max» package with them that very day. What is that, you ask? You pay a set fee(for eyebrows it’s $ 140, I think) and you can go in as many times as you want for a full year. Great deal, I thought. Unfortunately, not so… I was a sucker. For those people reading this, please think about it: I can now get my eyebrows done as many times as I want at Waxon without paying anything extra, and I STILL refuse to go back! I mean, this review is brutally honest, so I can’t go back now anyway. That’s how bad it is… The thing is, once you buy the package, they have no incentive to keep you loyal. Shima, the girl that does eyebrow threading at this location, progressively got worse and worse. So bad, in fact, that they ended up crooked, with one side being much longer and thicker than the other. As I started to notice how bad they were looking, I kept telling myself it was okay(I felt bad for having invested in the Wax to the Max package and was determined to get my money’s worth). However, after my last time at this place, I decided to just write it off. So if you sense some anger in this review, that’s where it’s coming from. I paid $ 140+tax for about 5 eyebrow threadings. Kind of a rip off, right? I imagine that anyone in a similar situation would feel the same. More details on the eyebrow job… Shima typical spent about 5 minutes on my eyebrows. This isn’t because she’s quick and efficient — it’s because she always misses spots and cuts them unevenly. «Always» isn’t an exaggeration, either — it’s happened every time. She doesn’t use a tweezer to pick up missed hairs. Then she’ll draw the eyebrows back on with brow powder, and it looks terrible(really thick and obvious it’s drawn on). What’s worse is it hides the bad job she does. It’s only when you get home and wash your face that you come to the sad realization that your eyebrows look like ####. In all fairness, some pros: — Excellent online booking system. Super easy and convenient for customers. — The place is spotless. — Good location if you work downtown/in the PATH. — They’ve always been on schedule with appointments. However, they don’t seem to be that busy, so that may explain this. — The brow powder, which I purchased, is good stuff when I apply it myself. — They offer you a Waxon branded bottle of water when you come in. I’m mentioning this because I haven’t been to another place that does this, so I guess it’s a value-add. Not because I care about getting a free bottle of water and it certainly doesn’t make up for poor service. All the things I listed above are great, but so many businesses get caught up in the frills and forget the fundamentals. Unfortunately, WAXON Wax Bar falls into this category. I’m not usually very vocal if I get a bad job. I just refuse to go back(and occasionally rant on Unilocal). I was going to leave this one alone, but what’s funny is Shima actually had the nerve to ask me to go on Unilocal and review the place! I mean, you’re lazy with your service and you’re kind of rude. Why would I recommend this place to unsuspecting potential customers? Actually, as a side note, go look at the good reviews from people who have only reviewed once — these show up in the reviews Unilocal doesn’t recommend. Is this because they had such a great job that they felt compelled to jump online and review, or because they were asked to? It’s misleading and very poor business practice to ask your customers for Unilocal reviews. You want good reviews? Earn them legitimately. Another point against Waxon. Advice to fellow Unilocalers — don’t go here. But if you do, DON’T get suckered into buying«Wax to the Max” — I mean it. You may end up with a similar experience. And considering how bad this place is and how expensive rent on the PATH is, I don’t expect them to be in business very long anyway, so you may not get an entire year to use the package. I can’t trust them to do a good job, so even without having to pay anything additional, I won’t go back. My eyebrows finally look normal again, and I’m not risking it. So yah, here is the review you asked for WAXON… I hope you read it.

Not bad. Not bad at all. The ladies were friendly and kind when I arrived totally harried after work because I got lost-ish in The Path. Immediately I was offered a bottle of water and a wipe with«I Love My Muff» written on the packaging to freshen up — hee! After that, I was shown into the area. The premises were spotless and smelled really nice, like essential oils. The room I was shown into was super clean and my esthetician was very kind. The whole process was quick, and it was my first experience with the exclusive use of hard wax. It wasn’t bad at all, and I wasn’t asked to assume embarrassing positions, unlike my experience somewhere else. The whole thing took 15 minutes and my esthetician maintained an ongoing stream of smalltalk. She didn’t try to sell me anything, which I appreciated. This waxing job was fairly clean — no broken hairs! — but I still found a couple strays here and there. Am going to continue my search for a good waxing place or else I’m going to have to learn to do it myself!

Both locations are great! I’ve found the service hit or miss, so once you find someone you like, stick with them! They offer you bottles of water when you arrive/leave and make sure to grab a few of the chocolates.

I dropped in asking if they had any availability for a brazilian on new years’ eve and luckily they told me that they had one coming up in 5 – 10 minutes. They offered me a bottle of water while I waited and I was showed into the room within 10 minutes. The wax they use is amazing! I have been waxing for around 5 years and have had my fair share of good and bad waxing services. This place is one of the best. They are very professional, thorough and quick. Waxing is never painless, but this was one of the most pleasant experiences I’ve had. The staff were also very friendly and warm. I would definitely recommend this place.
