Wrongbar

If you like great music, and you like to gamble with crowd vibes, then Wrongbar is the place for you.
There is an extra star for booking great musical acts.
It’s dark, music quality is solid, and the crowd is bloody random.
I’ve been to Wrongbar upwards of 30 times. It was the best of times, it was the worse of times.
The Best of Times:
Kerri Chandler was DJing. When I walked in the door, I could feel a wave of happy energy hit me.
Phantogram. They were still unknown. It was super hot, and I got a spot next to the industrial fan. There were about 50 – 100 serious fan (atics)s and everyone was focused on the performance.
The Worst of Times:
Relatively laid back instrumental hip hop /​house producer was DJing, and 2 girls decided to jump on stage and shake themselves like malfunctioning robot go go dancers. Bouncers did nothing.
Super hot and sweaty hip hop night where only 20% of the audience seemed to know the artist. Yet, 40% of the audience decided to record a video on their phones…
note: they have recently installed a proper air conditioning system, so you might not sweat as much. But there is still 10 years worth of hipster sweat in the woodworks.
Lineups are rare. They normally try to get people inside pretty quickly.
They could do with better bathroom facilities.
Conclusion: You might end up hating some people, but it’s worth it for the music.

Not much to write home about. The bar itself is boring. The venue is large, so mostly for dragging in a large group to listen to a DJ. A decent crowd gets going, and there’s an old Arcade at the back, but there’s nothing compelling here.

The rudest staff I’ve ever seen in Toronto!
We went to a concert that was supposed to start at 9pm. At 9:20pm the doors are still closed for no reason and it’s bitter cold outside and everyone’s freezing. I had a minor cold and I started feeling sicker and sicker standing in the lineup — for nothing. Finally my wife walks up to the doors and asks the bouncer why they’re not letting people in and that her husband is going to get sick. Finally after unpleasant exchange of words they said fine, go get your husband you can come inside to get warm. So my wife comes to get me from the line and we walk to the door and they let my wife in but tell me I can’t come in. My wife was pissed at that point and said they specifically told her to go get me and that we’re not skipping the line, we’ve been standing in freezing cold for the past 25 minutes for nothing. At that point, they told us «you can’t skip the line like that». And we’re like what the hell you just told us to come in — and we’ve been lining up forever already. The bouncer responded «you’re not coming in, this is my job, GET OUT!»
Thanks wrongbar. I’ll never come back to a place run by idiots like this.

At 38, I have no business in places like this.
For sure, these days it would take something special to get me out to Wrongbar although I understand it to be one of those places you can just go to on a Friday/​Saturday night not really knowing or caring who is playing.
I have been for Daedalus, the Russian Futurists and some NXNE acts. It totally works as a nicely sized place to dance and drink. The average age here is skewed younger than average but I am unsure if it is more scenster, hipster, club kid, etc.
My impression was that it was kind of the anti poser/​905er/​club kid place for electronica. Their artists, like the ones above, are doing things a bit more interesting. You’d come here for a Ninja Tunes based DJ or some hardcore D&B – the entertainment district is where you go for the House-​Trance stuff. Again, just my impressions from a couple of years ago.
It wasn’t hard to get a drink but the beer selection was limited. If I went again, I’d count on keeping it simple with G&Ts or Rum and Cokes or whatever your poison is.
I’m sure I’ll return one day – I always check the listings.

Great club when it comes to the larger Punk/​Skinhead concerts, :) One thing, though… I wish there was bathrooms in the back of the club, near the stage. If the place is packed, go to the can as soon as you feel like taking a leak, 0_​_​0 as it’ll be tough getting through the throngs of people in front of you. Always have fun when I’m there.

I really enjoyed my time here at the Wrongbar in Parkdale! I was there that evening for the Niki and the Dove with Vacationer concert. It was a fun time for all! The place is SUPER dark when first walking in. It took some time to adjust the eyes.
The drinks are pretty expensive. I think I paid $ 6.50 CDN for a PBR! Yikes. But the bartender was very nice. Also they have a $ 20 minimum on credit cards should you wish to use it. Drink up!
I did love the feeling of the crowd. I met a couple great people who drove 30+ minutes into the city just to see the band; one person drover 3 hours! I didn’t tell them I flew in from the US to see them, but that’s another story.
The venue was very intimate and no one was very pushy or it ever felt crowded. If anything, it felt like everyone was there to stay happy and that’s exactly what we all did!

This bar is huge with a nice stage. Good to go if you wanna dance with some space around you!

Wrongbar adds to the area. It’s another type of bar experience on Queen West.
It’s a hipster bar. It’s almost like Lee’s Palace cross breeded with Spin (the social).
I think the best things about this place is that it’s large (goes in quite deep) and has a wicked soundsystem.
but the cover just seems to be increasing with time and popularity.
It’s also become a bit of a fashion statement. which is good eye candy if thats your thing.

Last night, was the first time I had step foot into wrongbar. Must I say, coming from a person who usually parties at the main clubs such as: Wetbar, Frequency, Tryst, Lot 332 and etc, I was impressed!
The crowd consist of mainly hipsters and people ranging from their 19−30s. Not to mention, most people weren’t bad looking. but I might be bias since the clubs I attend to, mostly consist of gangster looking asians, over cologne and hair gel guys.
I truly enjoy this place, because everyone seems so friendly, carefree and chilled.
The bouncer dudes were really kind to my friend and I, but that could be because we arrived pretty early & we were girls?
Unlike most clubs, this place does not require bouncer to pat you down & instead of your typical booths and such, this place has tables and chairs for you to seat at.
The coat check layout is pretty crappy, since its right by the washroom. Not to mention. in the women’s washroom, one of the stall doors can be stuck in a jam with the door to enter the washroom. Also toilet paper tends to run out fast.
The music here is 98% electronic~ and eventually. to me, it just sounds all the same. I think I only hear about 2 – 3 songs with lyrics.
As for the dance floor, I actually anticipated it to be very small. but when we went further inside, it was actually quite roomy, but. that’s only until about 12ish that it starts filling up fast & gets crowded.
The décor is much better than most bars, but less upscale then most clubs. however, I don’t think that really matters, when you have a few drinks and just get into the groove of the music.
One hilarious thing I found was, near the front, there’s actually a arcade game called «the moonwalk» (or something like that)! 3 players, and 25 cents to only play! mission, your Michael Jackson. and you shot the bad guys & there’s even a button to make him dance!
As for the drinks, I think its average $ 4-​$ 8 depending on what you get tho~ Lastly, the bartenders are chilled, attentive and nice!
Overall this place is more of a casual place to hang out, in which you don’t have to be in a fancy dresses and such, and is somewhere you can just come anytime, get tipsy and dance awayyy.
I def. prefer this place over The Social!

I have gone to many many shows and DJ nights at this club. I absolutely think it is a souless room, and the sound is awful. It sounds slightly better than AM Radio. That being said the only way I can ever tolerate the music in here is buying a Labatt 50 for $ 4.75. Considering that its the crappiest cheaperst beer out there its way over priced at this bar. Also overpriced are the drinks.
The only thing I enjoy about this place is the décor. I went last night for the NXNE closing party. Considering I had a wristband when leaving to get food I was told no ins and outs. I am not sure how this could be seeing as when you purchase a NXNE wristband or pass you can go in and out.
I will end up here if something I really really want to see gets booked to play at this venue.

By far one of the best spots in the city for indie/​cutting edge music. Perfect size, excellent sound, and rowdy atmosphere.
Ultimately the review system here fails cause I can see this place rubbing people the wrong way, namely yuppies looking for overpriced, over dressed, dime a dozen metro spots.
… Which this place is the antithesis. Cheap cover, top underground acts, zero dress code, no line-​ups, rowdy atmosphere. A place to just have a plain good time.
And for me– thats perfect. Hence the rating.

The Wrongbar is slowly growing on me for a live music venue. They have a good sized dance floor but I find the spaces for seating a little small. The booths near the front doors aren’t a bad place to sit if you want to chat with people but the music is generally too loud unless you like yelling at your friends.
The stage is a good size and you will have a clear view of it anywhere in the room which is a bonus because sometimes it’s hard to get back to that sweet little spot you staked out earlier if you leave for a drink or the bathroom.
The acoustics and sound system are surprisingly good for such a «live» room. I’ve been there for DJ performances and live bands and both sounded better than I would have expected based on the shape of the room. The close proximity of the stage to the crowd is nice and seems to foster a lot of interaction with the crowd.
The staff are attentive and nice. I haven’t ordered anything other than beer there so I’m not sure how deep their knowledge of mixology extends. Most people seem to order the bog standard rum and coke or 7 and 7 which are impossible to screw up. Even with a busy bar though you will usually have a drink in hand very quickly at either the front or rear bar.
The crowd is pretty mixed but there is a high hipster ratio to be sure. What I find interesting personally is the amount of people in their mid to late 30s that you can tell were ravers in the 90s based strictly on the way they dance. I’m surprised I haven’t seen any white gloves, fun fur or soothers yet.

This is a nice-​sized venue in a good location of Toronto, which to me speaks volumes. The sound system is bang-​on which is expected when DJs are also the owners. The DJ rig is excellent, they have two bars and the dance floor is pretty large with a nice little raised area for wallflowers who like to check things out from the side.
My beef is I am not really interested in 80% of the things that go on here. I would like to come to this venue more often but it’s mainly ear-​bleeding electronic screeching. Would love to see this dope venue book more soulful acts. I have been to hip-​hop events here before and they’ve been pretty great. The mens washroom is WAY too small as well. You have to duck and dive to hit a urinal or wash your hands. The «Don’t-You-Know-Who-I-Am?» factor is a little too high for my liking.

Wrongbar is another place to add to my list of fun spots to hit up on a weekend.
Although it is really far west on Queen (hitting the Parkdale area), it is worth the trip if you want something out of the ordinary.
The bar is decked out with dark interiors and has dim yet interesting lighting around the bar areas and dancefloor. The first half of the bar’s layout consists of the bar, high tables with stools and some couches and booths to sit down, soak up some drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. The second half of the layout is purely dancing space, with the DJ on a high stage.
During my night out here, the music selection was excellent and the energy of the bar was amazing!
The only thing that was annoying is that even though people would leave in large groups and the bar was not completely packed, the bouncers held up the line way longer than what I have experienced at other bars.
All in all, Wrongbar is a great option if you are looking for somewhere new and different from your typical King West upscale bar or very classy venues in Yorkville.

If you’re looking for a proper night out in Parkdale — I’d recommend heading to Wrongbar. I wouldn’t go there before loosening up at the Rhino or Mitzi’s first, but as a place to spend a fun night out it’s tops.
It isn’t a place to take very seriously — if you spend the night rubber-​necking you’ll have a pretty bad time catching the eye of the Vice-​reading, skinny-​jean wearing, ‘I’m so original I look like everyone else’ type of poser. Don’t pay attention to the clientele — just drink and be merry!
Good music and cheap drinks makes this a fun time for those who are looking to shake their rumps.

Wrongbar is a bar that is contributing to the growing gentrification of Parkdale. As a bar itself, it’s pretty cool. It’s usually dark inside, but it’s got a bit of a swank to it.
This venue is also used for concerts alot. It’s a nice small venue for shows because it’s well laid out, with lots of space in front of the stage. To the sides, it steps up a little (like at Lee’s Palace) making it easier to see if you’re not right in front.
Drinks are about $ 4-​$ 7, depending on what you get. They have tall cans of PBR, so if you’re down with that drink, make sure you take advantage of it!

A decent enough sort of place. I will go there if there’s a band I like having a random small venue show, but generally a little too much of a scenester habitat for regular consumption. Or maybe I just don’t understand what it’s like to live West of Lansdowne. It is nice to see some growth in that area and overall I think that this type of setup is far preferable to the clubland nightmare of downtown east.
The handful of times I’ve gone here it’s been either packed to the gills or oddly empty, depending on the night/​event/​etc. I agree with Anna about the layout, it is certainly odd and doesn’t really take into account the way people move about. There is a nice sort of elevated lounge setup but I’m not sure if that’s normally used as a VIP section or what.
It sure seems like the regular crowd manages to get a party going and keep it strong, and with a really decent regular lineup of DJs and other performers I can understand why. I think it’s worth giving a shot if you want a loud dance-​y bar without a lot of meat market shenanigans, although the one main caveat is that if you’re not a Parkdale dweller you’re certainly going to either be cabbing it home or waiting what feels like an eternity for the Queen streetcar.

Wrongbar is the new kid on the block in Parkdale.
And it’s for real in PARKDALE. Which means, it’s west of the bridge on Queen West. As the latest addition to the Queen West Dance club circuit and giving The Drake and The Social a run for their money, Wrongbar has more of an authentic, local feel.
Owned and operated by Nav Sangha, aka Nasty Nav when he DJs, the bartenders are hip and friendly. the sound system is dope and all the cool bookings like Crookers and the Cobrasnake Party are here.
The room is a bit of a cluster f**ck in terms of layout though. The bouncers can only let a few people in the door at once, which causes a kind of bottle neck and the bathrooms and the man bar are in the narrow part by the entrance, so people tend to jam into this area, but the dancefloor is great, and the booth is high enough that the DJ can see out and you can see them. There is no air conditioning, just a big fan, but the place makes up for all of this with truck loads of heart and a good looking mix of dedicated kids.
Age range is 18 – 35. There is a bottle service system, but you have to be «in» to get on it. Drinks prices are standard.
