When I moved to Truro for work I actually lived in the Glengarry for two months before I could move into my house. I stayed in rooms ranging from your regular queen bed to one if their high end suites. The staff are friendly and attentive. In fact as time went on they were very sweet to put me in the suite with jacuzzi tub(I made regular use of it!) at no extra charge. The building is aging and after seeing it’s walls week after week it started to creep me out in the same way staring in the mirror draws unsettling detail in my crows feet and cavernous pores. God only knows what genetic gifts await one in the carpet and bedding. But I digress. The restaurant makes tasty and filling meals — I ate supper there every day — in a decent dining room. Their lunch buffet is always well presented and the food is hot and decent enough. Hardly stunning but still attracts lots of local people in addition to guests. Not much vegetarian option in the menu but since I was still eating things that had mothers at the time, I really enjoyed things like the tuna melt and spinach salad. There is a good sized pool but I never took advantage if it. I was a workaholic after all and if I was thinking genetic gifts in the room then I couldn’t fathom what treasures await in the pool. I’ve heard people swear by it though. A bar is open into the night, usually with a skilled pianist to play some good sets. I’ve also attended conferences and public events in the ball rooms. Nothing too fancy in them but highly functional and they work hard to accommodate your needs. The Glengarry is an important business in the town, and offers convenience and functionality even if it’s not necessarily as fancy as what you’ll get in Halifax. I owe a debt of gratitude to the establishment and I tip my hat to it’s hardworking staff.
