Commercial has many fine places to eat, and many cheap ones, and many vegetarian-friendly ones. It does not have many places that are all three, but this is one! The food is flavorful, delicious, and inexpensive; there are plenty of options, and the food is served quickly. Highly recommended.

Our favourite Ethiopian restaurant, the food is incredible. We got the veggie combo and the fish on a big plate of spongy injera. The flavors are delicious. They stayed open later to feed us and the service was very friendly and fast. Highly recommend it.

First time trying Ethiopian food. Eating with hands and their injira(sp?) native bread was really really good. Most dishes were very spicy, super delicious. Had to wait a while as it seems to be one person running the entire thing, well worth it.

When you’re craving some nice spices and a filling meal, this Ethiopian restaurant will satisfy such a hankering! Injera bread(soft sourdough-ish pancake?) is used to accompany your vegetables or meat dishes — which amazingly absorbs the sauces and flavours. You eat with your hands, using the bread as the vehicle for the vegs/meat. Just be aware… if you eat fast, you may overeat in the end as it feels like the bread expands after a while! So take your time to enjoy and keep from overeating! Should mention that it is a great place for people who like sharing food(so unfortunately, not for ‘Joey’) — the big round platter covered in Injera bread has your meat and veggies nicely dispersed upon it — just don’t be shy to dig in! Tried their spicy tea once — great kick to it, particularly on a cold rainy Vancouver day! Always friendly service and a quaint little spot on the Drive. Particularly love the lamb and goat wot and the yellow split peas… but it is all good!

This is the place where I tried Ethiopian food for the first time. I stumbled upon this place a few weeks back while I was hanging out on the Drive and looking for a place to have some lunch. If you are a vegetarian and you love curry, there’s a good selection of that here. Injera bread has a very interesting taste. It’s soft, chewy, and slightly sour. Traditionally, Ethiopian food is eaten with fingers but cutlery is also available. If you want to eat with your fingers, this is the place to do it. If you enjoy food from other countries and are looking for something different than Chinese, Japanese, and Indian food, I would recommend giving this place a try.

For some odd reason every place I wanted to eat at was closed the other day, so my friends and I found ourselves wandering looking for something new. I’m a Vegetarian and my buddy is a vegan so when we saw their sign that says«Vegan» right on it we stopped to take a look. We’d never had Ethiopian before but I’ve loved cuisine from different African countries so thought«Hey, let’s do it!». The whole place seemed to be run by one very happy and able man, who had an accent so I assume he was native to the area the food comes from, and definitely seemed passionate about it. We ordered a platter of different vegetable dishes. The spicy blended chick pea dish was especially good! I found the injera bread to be a bit more pancakey than I had expected, and the texture did eventually not sit so well with me. All in all it was really quite nice and I’d go back for sure! It seemed that the other people who had individual meals rather than a platter had more of each thing so I think next time I will do that, as each different item had fairly small portions and we had a lot more injera than we could have used for it. I have nothing to compare it to, so I’ll definitely be trying some more Ethiopian. So thanks to Addis for getting me into a new cuisine!

This tiny little Ethiopian café is great value, and says«vegan» right on its sign. The stews are good, but not AMAZING. A great spot for lunch.

This is a cute café that also makes a nice dinner spot on the Drive. We had an evening meal here with a group of eight and the large platters of injera bread and sauce are perfect for sharing. The staff served us promptly and I was impressed by how quickly our order arrived. Addis offers the option to uncork your own bottle of wine, so if you feel so inclined run across and down the street to the liquor store to pick up a low-priced alternative. The injera bread was delicious and the sauces provided a nice variety of vegetables, lamb, chicken, and lentils. There are party-platter options so you don’t even need to sift through the menu if you select this option. Best of all the meal priced out at under $ 20 each with tip. The café is small and space is limited, so do make reservations(not sure how busy it is normally). Expect sweet service and unique food. But if eating with your fingers is a problem, best to head elsewhere.
