Nice spot especially if you are a regular costumer. After 2 or 3 times only, you won’t even have to ask for your drink anymore since the owners will do it from memory! The Wifi also works wonderful. This is the perfect place to go if you need to work or study.

I thought they had pretty good décor. Unfortunately I just received the worst service at a coffee shop ever. I came from lunch and sat down thinking I would rest a few minutes before ordering. I opened my laptop and started working. Within 5 minutes, the little filipino owner or worker came up to me with a displeased look and conversation is as follow «do you need anything?» «Hmm… I’m fine for now» «what do you mean fine. Are you waiting for a friend? Or…» «No I just had a big lunch and I thought I’d wait a bit before ordering something» Her face turned into a disgusted look I said«do you want me to go somewhere else? I was going to order something a little later» She gave me this nasty«I don’t care» and«you liar» look. So I immediately picked up my stuff and went to Starbucks across the street. Mental note, never come here again. I get that coffee shops want me to order something when I sit and use their space, but to be pestered and given nasty looks like that is totally not cool.

Guuuuuuuys, the thing that I have missed(miss) the most now that I’ve moved from Gastown to Marpole is… coffee. Oh, the designer coffee. Remember the days when Revolver, JJ Bean, Smart Mouth, Coffee Bar, Milano, Timbertrain and Trees Organic were all a 2 minute walk from my front door? Yeah, I do too. Those days are gone. The only coffee a 2 minute walk from my house is the Safeway Starbucks at 70th and Granville(ew) or the coffee on my own stovetop(which I have not perfected). So. I decided to start looking further afield(LIKE A WHOLETHREEBLOCKS) for better coffee and popped into the Bean Around the World in Marpole, which is kind of surrounded by weird manicure and chiropractic-like clinics, but really deserves a look-in. The place was filled with people when I stopped by mid-morning on a weekday(hooray for work-from-home days). There is an abundance of comfy seating(and a small outdoor seating section) and what appears to be free wi-fi. There is even a cute little free library box right in front of the shop — so they are definitely encouraging people to come and hang out, although I don’t know how much walk-by traffic they get on this busy stretch of Granville Street. Now, to the coffee. They had some bonkers latte flavours featured on the chalkboard in addition to the usual suspects — and I decided to go for the wackiest one on the list: the cherry latte. Reader, it was delicious. Not too sweet, the espresso was strong, and the cherry flavour was lovely — not artificial in any way, although the foam was a delightful shade of pink. It was fantastic! I’d definitely go back to try some of the weirder flavours now that I’ve seen how well they do their espresso. Big selection of baked goods here as well. Not sure if they’re homemade or brought-in, but they looked fresh. Will have to do further investigation and report back.

Update: This business deleted this review. Wow. Submitting again. I will not quit! I’m sorry but this place gets worse and worse every time I visit. Disappoints me every time. A girl who works there was on her smartphone typing away at all times. So unprofessional. And the store charges 60 cents for soy milk — that’s ridiculous. All I asked was a spoonful of soy milk, that’s it. And yet the girl was blunt and stern, saying«No we charge 60 cents.» Wow. What an attitude. I think they are a couple(?) managing the store and they were really nice and pleasant at first, but nah they are worse than the last manager. I’m not coming back again, and I have been telling everyone to avoid going there. As far as their coffee is concerned, I don’t think they clean the machine regularly?! I can tell as it’s pretty bitter compared to other BATW places.

I love the atmosphere here, but I wish there were more plug-ins! There are only like 2 plug-ins and they’re nearby the sofa chairs, which are usually occupied by others who aren’t using the computers. The drinks are pretty good, but I like sweeter drinks. When I ordered the green tea frappuchino the first time with sweetener, I barely tasted any, which shocked me(I think they charge you for sweeteners too…). I ordered a green tea latte too on another day, and without the sweetener, I felt… sad(I chose to opt out the sweetener, but still)… I think it was a Saturday or a Sunday, but they closed at 5pm. I was like, «Whaaaat…» As a student, I don’t like this place(for the above reasons) much.

A good cup of coffee in Marpole! A nice place to meet for coffee — comfy and welcoming environment. They make a very good soy latte.
