Breka Bakery & Café is open 24 hours, so it’s usually packed. To be honest, we aren’t sure why the ratings are so high for this place. We tried the tiramisu and the mango passionfruit mousse. The mousse was so bland, while the tiramisu was very dry; both were difficult to eat. Even the white hot chocolate didn’t taste good. Maybe we were expecting more because the ratings were so high, but we were very disappointed with the quality of the desserts.

The pastries are amazing. You will become addicted. 9⁄10 because they had to chop my left foot due to the amount of sugar I consume. And I still hop there frequently.

Based only on buying baked goods take-away; not yet experienced any of their savoury items, or dined in. Cookies were good but a bit pricey – the cakes and strudals are so tasty. Open 24⁄7 so no cravings can be left unsatiated.

I did a taste test for my bday the other day and this is my conclusion. Blueberry cheesecake and the other plain cheesecake was just ok Cheesecake Brownie was great, a close second fav, highly recommend it. Honey Crueller was ok believe it or not but Tim Hortons is better. Mango Coconut Mousse was just ok, it left something to be desired, could have really used some vibrant help from citrus. Chocolate Mousse cake was on point, def one of my fav’s, if you like the taste of rich chocolate you will really enjoy this cake. Peach Cake was great and my fav by far, it’s fluffy and light yet full of peach flavor layered in between the cake. Tuxedo cake is also nice, worth buying again. Pecan walnut butter bar was nice. Overall it’s a cut above the rest and probably the best bakery/café open 24⁄7 in Van City

4 stars only because the Orange Mocha could use more Orange. Food: Heaven. Try the mango mousse cake! the pecan walnut bar basically consisted of nuts only, as it should(but other places don’t really do that), so I was really happy! Good Sandwiches and Strudel too! Ohhh and thumbs up for proper bread! I’m German and I missed«real» bread badly and you guys have great bread!

Awesome desserts, great coffee. Staff could be friendlier. Will be back for more late night study sessions.

This bakery makes great baked goods. Another positive point is it’s open 24 hours. I tried the Italian pocket, which they grilled. It was delicious. Perfect light meal or snack. I also purchased fresh warm rye bread. Yes, you can get great quality bread to take home. They also have cheesecake(which is apparently great), other cakes, pastries and good coffee. I noticed that the prices are very reasonable.

24/7, I love how it’s open always and fresh baked goods are well stocked. My recommendation is already cut apple pastry pieces. Huge apples everywhere and crust is better than the most. You can also buy a huge apple pastry which can feed multiple people but there’s lot more crust on it. I go there almost every time I need to go to downtown, it’s that great!

Very delicious and fresh pastries. Love the Belgian chocolate cookies… they are a must have everytime for me! Fridays are extremely busy here. The bus stop is right outside so I always see a load of people get off the bus and line up for their challa bread which they only have on Fridays. Great coffees as well!

Breka has a lot going for it — foresmost on this list for me is it’s extensive list of various riffs on the classic mocha. As a huge mocha fan, I certainly appreciate the nod in its direction. My personal favourite is the Orange Chocolate. yea baby. Close second is the fact that Breka on Fraser is a 24 hour establishment. Given its world-class-city standing, I’m consistently surprised by Vancouver’s small amount of open-late coffee shops and restaurants. Breka gives you an option for a late night pastry and coffee and is usually fairly lively well into the wee hours of the morning. Check it out!

Looking for something sweet after dinner and thinking cheesecake. Unilocal directed me to Breka Bakery & Café. They have a great selection of breads & cakes and all are reasonably priced. The room is quite small and the seating is pretty tight though we did manage to find the last open table. I came for cheesecake and selected the New York Cheesecake. It was exactly what I was looking for. Nice crust base and the texture and flavour of the cheesecake was perfect. I can not comment on their coffee but will review it the next time we are back… and we will be back. And they are open 24⁄7. It was a very positive dessert experience and I can recommend Breka Bakery & Café.

We made a special trip into South Van just before Christmas hoping to find some amazing pastries and our ever elusive hunt for an amazing pistachio mousse cake. First of, it’s hard to find parking in this neighbourhood so I almost abandoned this quest. Fortunately, I did find one in a parking lot(just west of Fraser) where it seems they expect people to own really tiny cars. They have a very pretty pistachio ganache cake but the pistachio is not very pronounced. We also got some sausage rolls which were good but I’m sure I can find in other places. I asked the clerk if they have challah bread and it turns out they’re only made on Fridays, for Sabbath?(I guess I’m so used to having those wonderful egg breads around all week out east.) I don’t think I’ll be making a special trip to South Van for this mediocre bakery again.

Breka was amazing open 24 hours. Huge fan of that. We swung by on our way out of town, so it was conveniently open. The breakfast sandwich is simple, yet delicious. I got the blueberry muffin, which just tastes like a Costco muffin(which is good, but not gourmet or anything, just moist and buttery). I also got a chocolate cookie, which was pretty good. Overall, I enjoyed this place. I’d go back!

I really like this place. Is it gourmet pastry? No. Is it tastefully decorated? Not really. Does it serve organic, designer tea? nope. However, it’s got a super-positive, old school Vancouver neighbourhood vibe, is always packed full of interesting people, is open 24 hours, is reasonably priced, and has the best peanut butter cookie I’ve ever had. hands down. Unpretentious, non-curated, mom and pop, good people watching, warm and friendly, and tasty treats. A rare gem.

My mom and I bought an apple strudel for a party at a friend’s place. I tried some of the apple strudel. It was good! The pastry was not too greasy and the apple sauce inside was not too sweet. I tried Breka’s coffee beverages and some cakes before. They were average. Some bakeries, pastry shops or dessert places have better beverages and baked goods. Breka’s atmosphere/ambiance was ok. I would rather sit and enjoy a coffee or beverage at Starbucks or a cozy coffee shop.

Open 24⁄7 if you want to just hang out in the middle of the night, this is the place to go. I like how they have many kinds of pastries to satisfy the hungry soul at night. They have coffee, tea, juices available and soups during daytime. Price is fair for quality and portions. The place is medium sized so it may be packed at times with students, big groups not recommended. Don’t expect it to be a fancy place because there are no renovations or decorations. Free parking available. They also have another location on Robson street as well.

Bland pastries, smoothies made of frozen fruit and syrup, tasteless cakes made only of layered sponge, cream and some fruits on top, maybe some extracts or mousse added. It seems the same things are added to every cake. I don’t recommend if you are familiar with how European and American pastries taste.

After dinner at Deer Garden Signatures, we wandered over to Breka Bakery for dessert. Cakes are generally $ 4.25 for a piece about 3“x3“x2″, although you may find some things less than that, such as a Rum Ball for $ 2.75. Tastiness is generally good to very good. Savory sandwiches are rubbishly priced at $ 7.50 or so for sad looking sandwiches that doubtless look better after the toasty panini treatment on site. But«grilled cheese» — which looked no more than slices of cheddar between white bread — was $ 6.50. Really? At the same time, whole 6″ tortes were only $ 8.50 and a massive poppyseed roll that’s probably the size of your forearm was only $ 9.50. Prices at Breka defy understanding and may be related to how long they’ve sat in the displays. Rum Ball($ 2.75) –About tennis ball sized. –Super-firm, almost like fudge. –Where’s my rum?

This place is ok if your’e looking for late nite sweets(they have sandwiches and paninis as well, most of which are premade) and free wi-fi. It’s 24 hours but the place is pretty small and most people who come here hang out here for the wi-fi so it’s hard to find a table sometimes. I believe they bake their own bread here but alot of the deserts if not all are brought in. They are ok. The people who work here at least when we came(after midnite) don’t really seem to thrilled to be here. All I can say is it’s 24hrs…

Whats not to love about this bakery /café??? Open 24/7, awesome pastries, breads, cakes and more. I’ve been here several times, I love its local vibe. I came once for a pastry and a coffee, it was a very busy morning and a gentle man asked to join me at my table as there was no empty seats left, I said of course I was almost done anyway. We got chatting and its nice to talk to complete strangers sometimes. He mentioned he lived close by and that everyone here are regulars and know each other. As I looked around it did seem like everyone knew each other, which made me jealous I wish I had a place like this closer to home. The coffee was good Americano, loved the glazed donuts. One of my favorite is the sausage rolls. The cakes are lovely and under $ 10, I’ve picked one up for a friend not too long ago. They also have panini sandwiches which I have yet to try but looks delish. And the breads oh my I love rye and this place does rye bread good. The workers are all very delightful I will be back over and over again!
