Is it independent or is it just hiding it’s corporate undertones? Café Umbria branded mugs, sleeves and to go cups, Anduccis pre-made salads and soups, pastries sitting on top of the counter… I guess they’re fresh but I am reluctant to try them as they just float up in the open air like that. The space itself is very modern and sleek(in my opinion, it was kinda cold feeling). I did like the art on the walls, the floor to ceiling windows, the bar looking out onto the street and the little upstairs nook area. The staff seem friendly, although I’m not sure they’re expert baristas, but their latte art was well done. The last straw, on in this case, granule, that reduced their rating and me to almost tears and a two star… no raw sugar in sight. Perhaps I have become spoiled, but I am pretty certain that raw sugar has become a staple in every coffee shop here. I would definitely give it another shot — heck they’re new — but they’ll either need to supply lots of raw sugar or learn to tame the unfortunate bitter bite in my latte.
