I’ve purchased bread at this location for about 4−½ years. In the past year, the service has dropped considerably. I like my loaf thinly sliced. Recently, a staff member, in a tone that should never be adopted by a person in the service industry, informed me that there was no such thing as «thinly sliced» and never has been. I asked her how long she had worked for Cobs, and she advised she’d been there one year. It explained a lot — why my bread had been frequently sliced much too thickly, why my whole wheat loaf was sometimes a white loaf, why no one seemed to care much about my order. I have changed to the Kerrisdale location where the staff are much more polite and caring of the customer. When I tried to complain to this location, the owner phoned me and offered me one(yes, one!) loaf of bread to make up for the mistaken orders, the failure to slice the bread properly, the rudeness of the employee… After 4−½ years of buying bread every week, that was her solution! I told her«no thanks» and moved on.

When I lived in Australia I frequented a chain bakery called Baker’s Delight. You could find it next to most grocery stores and always got me salivating when I walk past. Cobs is the Canadian version of Baker’s Delight. Exactly the same, right down the logo, recipes, and store layouts. That being said, the bread is great in a pinch, but are other(better) artisan bakeries around. Don’t get me wrong, this place is fine, but not amazing. Service is friendly and definitely adds to the fun factor of purchasing bread. Keep up the great work ladies!

Great service… great product… thankful I have a few Cobbs close by I usually go to the Cobbs on W Broadway and MacDonald, but lately they have not been making that store«happen». The previous owner(over a year ago) you to make that place hum with great product and service, not so much anymore. Anyways, the Cobbs on W 4th is doing a great job

Picked up half a dozen cinnamon rolls for my study group, and when I asked for frosting, the Cobs guy laid it on thick! A little too thick for my liking, but lemme tell ya, it was a real hit ’cause nothing makes a group of stressed-out students happier than sugar and carbs. They offered up some Turkish Bread for sampling as well — not half bad. Definitely plan to return for some of that. The Cobs guy also suggested a variety of ways to enjoy it. A pleasant experience overall. I’ll be back!

I love the croissants from here esp. the ham and cheese or the spinach and cheese. Service is always friendly and efficient. Today they were donating to Big Brothers which was pretty cool, too. They always offer a few samples which is nice if you can’t decide what to buy. Too bad that bread is just so fattening. :) I wish that they offered a whole wheat croissant. Is that even possible? :) I deduct one star as I asked for my croissant to be heated and when I tasted it, t it was actually stone cold. Sorta weird, since he asked me if it was«hot enough.» I don’t think he heated it all. But I had left already, so whatever. It was still flaky and tasty, but I know that it would have been better slightly heated. If you’re looking for a fast and fancy croissant, this is the place to go. :) The cinnamon buns are pretty tasty, too, but all are best enjoyed hot!

Pretty good bread but not the best. At this price point I’d expect it to be as good as Terra Breads. No dice. It’s the same price as Terra Breads but not as good. Just go to Terra Breads. I initially wanted to go to Terra Breads but it was still closed for renovations(I guess they’re running a few weeks behind schedule). All I can say is no bread for me until Terra Breads opens up again because Cobs is definitely not doing it for me. I avoid carbs but occasionally make exceptions though this place will not make the exceptions list even though they’re pretty good.

This place fronts as a «real» bakery but nothing is real. I’ve heard that all the starters are powder and that great sourdough flavour comes from a package. It’s no wonder there bread always gives me a serious head ache. The sweets stuff is bland, bland bland. No texture, just flat. The savory is no better. The loaves look good but offer nothing authentic. Go across the street to Capers and you’ll have better look there.

This Cobs Bread location is like the others in that it also serves up great fresh bread. Cobs sits in a nice string of independent stores: a baker, butcher, green grocer, and fishmonger offer a leisurely and quality shopping alternative to the Safeway across the street. When I discovered Cobs bread for the first time we ate an entire loaf with butter in one day. I like the plain simple wholewheat bread with seeds, sliced thick for toast. I’ve tried the scones but found them dry(as I do most scones). Cobs does make an effort to offer samples and run contests for customers, as well as attempts to engage customers in more than perfunctory«How are you?» of the standard customer service. I must say, I like ‘em.

Cobs offers a variety of fresh bread, sliced to order, and a bunch of other yummy baked goods. Service is always fast and friendly. There’s always something tasty to sample at the counter and sometimes they’re even out on the street trying to lure you in with their samples. Carbohydrates and a smile, what’s not to love?
