Straight-up: Either the food is really good or the service is really good. Rarely both. Thankfully the food is great more often than not. Their pulled pork monte-cristo is my go to. The pulled pork has a good kick and works wondrously with the french toast, not to mention the portion is huge! So eat half, take the rest home and reheat in your oven. It’s a fun leftover! I also like their pancakes, their fried chicken rules, and I have never been dissatisfied by their breakfast specials. The reason for the 3 stars is their weird service… they aren’t very attentive and I somehow can’t fault them for it because the staff seem like super nice people. Although one of the waitresses blamed us for not taking our order quickly because they«couldn’t see the menus on the table».

The food is below-average diner grub for twice the usual diner price. They’re careless and argumentative. We ordered delivery through . The restaurant forgot to include our beverages and did not add avocado to a breakfast scramble. They argued with the justeat customer service people saying they did add the avocado but I was in the middle of eating and there was none in there. Skip this restaurant and try somewhere else.

Nosh and Nibble came here for dinner and I had a great taste of the following: Chicken Fried Steak($ 15.95) Southern Fried Chicken($ 12.95) The Chicken Fried Steak was a crispy fried 7 oz beef sirloin steak with sausage gravy, 3 eggs, hash, and a choice of corn bread or toast. For those unaware, there’s no chicken in this dish; the steak is fried as if it were chicken. I had mine with toast and man was this filling. If the steak wasn’t already full of protein, the eggs, hash, and potential corn bread would have finished me off. The steak was fully breaded and drenched with the sausage gravy making it extra saucy. On the inside though, my steak was quite dry and tough to chew into. I did like that the hash was made with potato strips instead of cubes and the eggs came over easy as ordered. There isn’t too much to say about the bread except that it’s generously buttered. The Southern Fried Chicken was a great main. If you’re looking to avoid a big dinner coma, this chicken might be a great choice. This came with 2 pieces of boneless crispy fried chicken and gravy; we opted for fries on the side. The gravy was good for dipping the fries and the chicken. The chicken was less dry than the steak and had a great crunch to it. If you’ve ever felt fast food fried chicken was too oily, the chicken here should please you.

I occasionally meet here with some friends. It is out of the way and has a great retro feel. The food and service is always good. Great for hamburgers.

I only went there because of social shopper deal but the deal itself was deceiving as you will have to order more on top of what you paid for your voucher. I would have been ok with it if the food was good but oh my, the food was pretty horrible and the scary attitude of the server did not help either.

Get the eggs benedict. They make their hollandaise sauce in house and it’s delicious! Super nice girl from SF too, super cool!

I ordered delivery from Deacon’s through , and my order arrived very quickly. The food was surprisingly delicious and high quality for a greasy spoon/diner! I ordered the veggie breakfast quesadilla, and it was so good! The tortilla was homemade(which is very, very hard to come by in Vancouver), and they didn’t skimp on anything! It was chock-full of veggies, eggs, and cheese. I will definitely be ordered from them sometime soon. Don’t order from here expecting healthy food(i.e., it is truly a GREASY spoon), but it will be delicious! ***Vegetarian friendly, but no clear vegan options.

All day breakfast from the hearty, delicious, plentiful breakfast menu. The sandwiches and burgers are great, too. My go-to place for comfort food, hangover food or just a large, tasty, well-priced meal.

I have to say I had high expectations for this place as someone highly recommended it to me. So on a rainy Sunday I decided to give this place a try as the other place that shall not be named was closed! The décor is hipster meets diner and I was really looking forward to some delicious food. My server was very nice and friendly but there were a few issues with my experience here: 1) The cutlery was not clean, I found food residue on my fork so I asked for a new one. The second one also had stains on it so this was a big let down! 2) I ordered the spicy fried chicken but it was so salty and dry that I could hardly swallow it even though I had drowned the meat in a sea of gravy. 3) The fries were not cooked properly, the middle part was frozen! Overall, I was very disappointed and won’t be back any time soon.

Deacon’s has been on my list for awhile, the Southern style brunch menu caught my eye. Well I went once last week with my boyfriend. It was OK. We went at 1:30pm, it seemed like there was only one server/runner on shift, he was cordial but a bit snobby whereas we could hear him being sweet to other guests? I DID like the hip diner feel though! Anyways, the food was OK. I had the Chicken Biscuits & Gravy, everything was dry, so I smeared it in gravy which seemed pretty salty. My boyfriend had the special which was a plate sized pancake with fried chicken, he enjoyed his but said his chicken was dry too. All in all it was OK! I wasn’t expecting anything special from a diner.

We were craving for Fried Chicken and Waffles because we saw it on a blog somewhere for Deacon’s Corner but sadly they didn’t have it on their menu. However, we did end up getting fried chicken with poutine(around $ 9.50) and fried chicken with grits, eggs, & hashbrowns(around $ 12.50). Man ITWASDELICIOUS&HITTHESPOT!!! The fried chicken was super tender and spiced just right(maybe just a tad salty but we loved it). It was heaven on a plate. The poutine was quite good. The grits… What on earth are grits lol??? It was mashed up stuff, a little like mashed potatoes with diced vegetables and is served with a «gravy» that reminded us of a chowder. It was a creamy white soup looking gravy. We initially thought we were missing a spoon so we can drink this«chowder». We are just ignorant people lol. Service was very friendly and quick as well. Great little diner on Alexander on the edge of Chinatown.

I had a solid experience at Deacon’s Corner when a friend and I visited per the recommendation of a server at nearby Steamworks. It truly is a diner, so don’t go looking for much more than that. We had just finished trekking through Lynn Canyon and we’re ready for a hearty meal. We got it. My friend had the Pulled Pork Monte Cristo, and I had the fried chicken with fries and gravy. Everything was really tasty, and we finished off with a warm slice of apple pie.

tough Unilocalers here, albeit customer service does make a difference. the extra star for me is simple: free wifi, in a diner style and considering this is in the middle between Chinatown and Gastown, DC definitely has a uniqueness to being here. No other place that has this type of relaxed atmosphere without having to spend the big bucks. It’s actually quite well lit, considering where it’s located, corner location with booth seating on the right and middle; some action seating at front. Patio section still open. Metered parking all around. Also offers delivery/catering. New ownership also planning to open a 2nd location in Kits by early next year, towards the UBC area.

Came over to use up a groupon for hamburgers. The waitress was very friendly and the diner was cool. However there was nothing noteworthy about their burgers, fries or side salad.

Beer was flat and the waitress/manager did not care. Literally shrugged her shoulders and said«I don’t know». Fries and burger were okay. I’ve had better. Will never go there again.

I frequently come here for breakfast, especially for the chocolate chip pancakes that are loaded with chocolate chips. My rating would have been higher if it wasn’t for one significantly snarky server who is consistently rude and unprofessional. If you are greeted with a ticked off looking female server with big, long dark brown hair and thick eye lashes, save yourself the slow service and attitude and ask to be assigned to a different server. The first few times I had bad service with her I gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe she was having an off day; however, every time I have had her as a server, the service has been poor. Most recently, my family and I waited a long time before our food came out. When we expressed this to our server, we were told that we were mistaken and that it had not been that long. I was also waiting for my coffee to be refilled while midway through our service, she drank her coffee while watching TV. It’s unfortunate that one of my favourite restaurants has been tarnished by this unprofessional server. On a positive note, the others servers I had have been consistently professional and pleasant.

I went with my uncle who had wanted to try this place out. It has a neat little diner feel that adds character with old photos of the city. The restaurant was pretty much empty when we went, maybe us and two other tables. The service wasn’t great but far from poor. The waitress was nice, checked up on us a couple times and got the job done. The food I was a little disappointed with. I ordered the southern crisp fried chicken wrap and substituted the fries for beef chili fries. My uncle ordered the 2pc southern fried chicken main. When the food arrived at our table it looked delicious and photo worthy. However, everything tasted like it needed salt, and I’m not one that puts a lot of salt on my food. Also, the chicken in both our meals was dry and wasn’t crispy at all; it didn’t have that signature crunch I was expecting from a piece of southern fried chicken. My beef chili fries were also hard to get through. I needed more water as the combination of the chili and thick cut fries that were dry made it difficult to swallow. The prices weren’t bad at all. $ 10.50 for a chicken wrap(chili fries was extra) and $ 12.50 for a main are both very reasonable. Initially after leaving I had no urge to try Deacon’s Corner again. But having talked with friends they have told me that if you go there, the breakfast is the thing to order. Being a sucker for an all-day breakfast menu I have considered going back at least one more time.

Came here on Sunday with a group of 5 that quickly became of a group of 7; most places would flip out over this very fact, but the folks at Deacons just grabbed more cutlery and menus and made us feel right at home. Our waitress happily jumped up on a chair and took a sweet team photo of all 7 of us and she split the bills out without even being asked to. The portions here are masssssive(my pancake was the size of a dinner plate: fluffy and amazing), the service is fast and efficient and the prices are most definitely right. We came here for a boozy breakfast and managed to drink Deacon’s out of vodka, but they happily ran over to the liquor store to buy more: hooray!
