Excellent selection of fresh and BBQ meat here. You will find all sorts of preserved meats from pork to duck. Traditional styles you would not anywhere else in Vancouver. You got to try and come back.

This is every Chinese child glutton’s dream, the Willy Wonka of the East.
Delectable pig ears. Lightly marinated intestine. Suspended on the wall racks: fatty sausages, and dried and flattened poultry. Whole Hainanese chicken or just a box their heads if you’d prefer. The chocolate river of this particular Wonka Factory of Delights is just the sewage outside, pouring downstream from the fish store two stores up. Watch your step.

I was on a tour of Chinatown when we walked next to a store called Dollar Meat Store. Now, I’m no stranger to Chinatowns and Asian stores, but there was no way they could be selling quality meats in a store called Dollar. Well, that was partically true. The meats are not a dollar, but they are also not low quality. We didnt buy any during this visit, however later in the month, we did get some Chinese sausage. I’m not usually a fanof Chinese sausage, but it was actually pretty good. So, head to Chinesetown and get some meat.

This store is an institution. One of the oldest stores in Chinatown.
Good for any thing cooked, BBQ pork, roast duck, sausage, roast pork, etc.
I usually come here for the Chinese sausage and Chinese bacon.

One of the oldest running shops in Chinatown, Dollar Meat Store has been in Chinatown for over 30 years. I bought their BBQ duck and salted chicken for takeout. I asked for it chopped up and packaged.
Their BBQ duck was delicious — juicy and very nicely barbecued. It’s excellent with rice. It comes with a sweet sauce which I didn’t add because the BBQ duck tasted perfectly fine without it.
Their $ 8.99 salted chicken is a great alternative to BBQ chicken you find at the supermarket deli area. Dollar Meat Store’s salted chicken doesn’t taste too salty which is great for those who are watching their salt intake. It’s very good with rice or add it to a sandwich.

If you love your BBQ Chinese meats then trust me on this one… I have done the official search all over Chinatown and Dollar Meat store wins. After moving within a few blocks of Chinatown I needed to find the perfect bbq meat store craving fix… Not all are are even close to being alike as I found out. But at Dollar they pride them selfs at top quality yes its a few cents more but worth it in taste and every bite. The store has been around for years and have a huge following. They also provide regular Asian butcher items… But ooooh ya the soy chicken, and bbq pork and bbq ribs are juicy and never dried out…
