Came here after climbing from cliffhanger. Best part is that this place give 10% discounts to Cliffhanger and Hive members. To them Cliffhanger and Hive are the same. I came in on a Wednesday and from my high hopes it will be wings night. Unfortunately no. But it was Guinness Burger with Guinness Beer for $ 12. The burger was really juicy. I have to say their fries are pretty good. I liked it. I don’t drink so I had them substitute it with ice tea.

A new pub in the neighbourhood, I had to go check it out. The day we went(I think a Wednesday) burger and beer day for $ 12 Pretty decent deal, except I wanted a Guinness, the deal is only for their house lager. No offer for adding $ to get a Guinness which I don’t understand. The reason why I went there was for the Irish drink. If I don’t want the lager, still $ 12. What? Anyways, I decided not to have the beer or the burger, and ordered the Steak and Guinness pie which was not bad. This place has live music which I will have to check out some time, but come on guys, give us an option to have your beer and burger special with the drink of our choice!

I know the whole irish pub thing has been done over and over but this is great spot. Friendly staff, fantastic service, a great pour and really good food. Close to the skytrain too. What’s there not to like? Same owners as Dublin Gate in Whistler as well. PS: They have live music here most every night. Its not loud and garrish with a big stage like every other pub around. They play at a table while scoffing their drinks and its great music and you can still have a conversation with them playing even 1 table over. I fear this may be my new home. PPS: I noticed one Unilocalers review of the prices being too high. My 20oz pint was $ 7.75, pretty average for Guinness. And there are a ton of cheap under $ 8 options that I saw on the menu. They also have happy hour between 3 – 6 and 9pm+ with tons more specials. I’m a picky SOB so hear me when I say this place is great. Give it a try you won’t regret it.

I can’t comment on the regular menu, as I came here for a Steamworks beer pairing event, but the same chef prepared our food as he does for the regular menu and that’s gotta count for something. First off: This restaurant is beautiful. It looks authentic, cozy, and can cater to all different types of crowds having live music every night but also multiple TVs showing the hockey game. The staff were wearing really cute kilts and had smiles from cheek to cheek. As soon as I sat down I had imagined coming back. Then the food arrived. Oh my god. Everything that the chef created had also incorporated Steamworks beers and the combinations were fantastic and inventive. I ate things I didn’t think I would ever eat and didn’t feel a sliver of guilt about it. Quail, venison, beer soup, I wish I could accurately describe how amazing the dishes were but just take my word that the chef has skills. Everything came out in a timely manner, plates looked consistent, everyone was happy. I’ll definitely be back.

10⁄10 would bang again. The hipster repellant environment creates a wonderful breakfast haven on Main Street away from the crowds.

My fu#king day off hit spot. I hate all the food in Olympic Village and I live there?! Finally, the Irish have arrived. Straight outta Whistler BC, this place has great service, a good start on some ambiance and charm and great live music. The food is spot on. I go with the Mrs for a scotch egg, pint of Kilkenny followed by a Hearthstone(lovely beer) then, dive into a Guinness Steak Pie(prefer a few kidneys in there but that’s me) it’s divine. A nice gravy and a ton of steak, soft carrots, mushrooms and a flaky tortoise shell cover. There’s at least half a dozen must haves on that well designed menu, congrats to my man Danny his staff & talented Chef ;)

This place is in a brand new building which somehow doesn’t work for me when it comes to an «old» Irish pub. The noise level in here combined with poor acoustics make it a problem to socialize. The food is expensive and all fits into a tight price range so you can’t get away just getting something cheap and light, nor are you going to find anything particularly good for you. I’m sure there will be a crowd to support this place due to location and growth in the area, but for this type of pub and prices, there are better options with some feature that outshines this one: cozy vibe, view, water facing patio, etc.(eg. Mahoney & Sons)

Pretty bad. We won’t be back. Food was overpriced and not what we expected for an Irish pub. Drinks were super expensive.

This is just Shiite! Born and raised Dublinner and former Guiness employee. I have been travelling for 3 years now since retiring as a manager of sales for Guinness International and can say without a doubt that this is the saddest attempt at an Irish restaurant in north America. We were a large group who had a horrible experience with food. When we inquired about it were told our meals were vacuum packed, frozen and then dropped in boiling water to reheat when ordered! When requesting some of our favorites from the bar, not only did we stump the server and bartender but this young little blonde bird who claimed to be a manager as well! Menu was overpriced and bland. Bar Management was clueless Live music was too loud Servers were pretentious and slow If you want a genuinely Irish pub, there’s so much to choose from in Vancouver. Do not waste you’re time/money at this dump You Have Been Warned!!!

Really like this pub. Good atmosphere on Saturday night. A musical duo playing a good mixture of Irish music and pop, where you can dance to your hearts content, or just relax and chat with your friends. Would recommend!

Solid food, good drinks, and beautiful décor :) Was curious to try the new pub in the neighborhood and finally got to try it out tonight. We tried the sirloin steak, fish & chips, and the buffalo wings. Everything was good and satisfied everyone. Steak had good flavor and was cooked to order. Loved their fries that came with the fish and the fish was nicely battered– light and flakey inside. The wings were good as well. Glad to welcome a good addition to the neighborhood :)

When I first saw they were preparing to open an Irish pub in the area, I have to admit I wasn’t excited and hoped it was some other type of restaurant instead. The Irish pubs I’ve been to before did not have food to write home about. When I finally went, just because it was convenient, I was pleasantly surprised because the food was actually really good and satisfying and the menu has a lot of things I want to try. I recommend the Steak and Guiness Pie as well as the Pork Belly. They don’t take reservation and you seat yourself when you get there. Word must’ve spread about this restaurant because The last time I went on a Friday night, it was completely packed so I ended up going somewhere else.

I’ll never forget the experience I had at Dubh Linn Gate. Oh what a night! I met an old friend here at around 6pm on a Tuesday evening. We were originally supposed to meet after 6:30, but her plans cleared up at 5:30. I originally intended to drive and park my car across the street and leave it overnight at Ralph’s Car Audio — I had an appointment the next day to get a new stereo installed — but I got word from my work that I would need to use my car the next day for some work-related runs around town. Uh-oh! I called Ralph’s Car Audio and cancelled my appointment and they were very understanding. At this point, I decided I might walk down to Dubh Linn Gate — after all, i would definitely be trying out some of their fine scottish ales! When I looked at the clock, I realised that if i walked, i’d be late to meet my friend, so I decided to drive anyhow and park in Ralph’s Car Audio parking lot — even though I didn’t have an appointment the next day! Sketchy, i know, but I ended up meeting my date on time AND i didn’t get a ticket. Phew! When I arrived at Dubh Linn Gate my date was there and we ordered some Authentic Buffolo Sauce chicken wings and a few icy cold brews. All I can say is — WOW! The brews were so icy cold and delicious, and the wings were among the best i’ve had. Just the right amount of kick and with the added blue cheese dip let me tell you — I was on a one way trip to chicken wing heaven — full speed ahead on the chicken wing express TOOTTOOT! What a ride. I must have been thirsty because I noticed I had three beers in the same amount of time my date had only two. But it’s ok because i’m used to it and managed not to slur my words. We were so deep in conversation and atmosphere that i barely noticed that almost two hours had passed! It was 8:30pm and it was definitely time to go home and get some rest — I had to be a at work at 9am the next morning. All in all, this is the best bar and(surprise!) restaurant i’ve ever been to in Vancouver. Nothing even comes close to the Dubh Linn Gate.

All in all a really good addition to the neighbourhood, and will definitely give Craft and Tap & Barrel a run for their money. The food is interesting, flavourful and with a good variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. We shared the yellow split pea dip(very tasty though the pappadoms broke easily when scooping out the dip). For mains we had the Harvest Coddle(a hearty and very tasty soup/stew in clear tomato broth), the cheese & tomato sandwich, the steak and guiness pie and also the chickpea falafel. We were all well satisfied. There was a good selection of beer though it could use more local stouts(e.g. Back Hand of God, which is an Irish style stout out of Sorrento). They carry three ciders so there was something for everyone in our party from non beer drinkers to a beer snob.(I didn’t look at the wine menu closely, so no comment there.) Interior décor was a little predictable and none of us cared for the faux crumbling wall effects, but generally a comfortable environment. There are fireplaces sprinkled around the room, so this should be quite a desirable place when the monsoons return in the fall. Kudos for including some curved booth seats — these will likely be popular seating for their relative privacy and upholstered comfort. The band area is at one end of the large open room, which gives customers an option of sitting close to the band for the music, or a little farther away for conversation. Even with the band on break the pub was noisy, so if you want to have some good discussions, head for the booth seating. Our request would be to try and dampen the noise levels a bit. Another good feature is that the focus was on the band and lively conversation — if there were any TVs in the room, we didn’t notice them. Service was friendly and efficient and staff are eager to please. We’ll definitely head back!

Team Food Soc came here for a lunch and I had a great taste of the following: Half and Half Beer Flight(4 x 5oz tasters, $ 9.50) of : Guinness Irish Stout Lonetree Cider Steamworks White Angel Persephone Goddess Golden Ale Hearthstone Brewery — Wyld Raspberry Berliner Weisse(5oz taster) Chowder($ 6 side) with Soda Bread Whiskey Cured BC Steelhead Gravlax($ 13) Smoked Potted Ham($ 15.50) Seared Tuna Salad($ 19) Fraser Valley Pork Belly($ 20) Buttermilk Panna Cotta($ 7) Irish Coffee(~$ 7) Being an Irish pub, we have to start with the beer. The Guinness was a dark stout with a creamy taste and chocolatey finish; the classic Irish stout. The Lonetree Cider was apple flavoured. It had a dry finish and was slightly carbonated, but not as carbonated as a Rock Creek Cider. The Steamworks White Angel was an IPA with a citrus-y aroma to it. It had a bit of a spicy aftertaste but would be a good choice for orange flavour fans. The Persephone Goddess Golden Ale was a very golden colour but I found it very hopsy compared to the other beers. If you like an herbal aroma with your hops this is one to try. We were also recommended to try the Hearthstone Wyld Raspberry Berliner Weisse and this was a fantastic beer. It was a little sour but the explosion of raspberry flavour(sourced from a 200lb press of fresh raspberry, mind you) made up for it in this fruity, bubbly, white beer. The Chowder came garnished with smoky bacon and scallions. I thought it was awesome how the chowder came reduced making it less diluted and much fuller in flavour. The mushrooms were juicy and the bacon had a good chewiness to it. This came with a side of house-made soda bread(an Irish specialty) which had a cakey texture to it. While the bread wasn’t my favourite on its own, it paired well with the chowder and I used it to greedily scoop up the chowder. The Whiskey Cured BC Steelhead came with Irish soda bread, sweet and sour cabbage, and double cream. This fish was some of the smoothest cured fish I’d eaten at a restaurant much less a pub. The double cream was great to swirl the fish in and I used the soda bread to form some Irish-style bruschetta with the cabbage on top. This was a very shareable appetizer. The Smoked Potted Ham was a tender smoked Fraser Valley pork hock, seasoned with herbs, topped with beer jelly, and served with apple mustard and grilled cheese. I ate this by scooping up pork hock and beer jelly and lathering it on the sourdough with the pickled veggies. Thumbs up for sharing. Fun fact: The sourdough in this dish is sourced from Swiss Bakery up the street! The Seared Tuna Salad was a Pacific Albacore cooked rare with herb pesto potatoes, arugula, dried romas, shaved fennel, crispy capers, and tomato dressing. With the fennel and capers, this salad was full of flavour and could be quite filling with the pesto potatoes hidden within the salad. The tuna was similar to tuna tataki found at other restaurants except the seared portions of the tuna were additionally breaded with a seasoning to give them even more flavour. If you like a saucy salad to swirl some tuna in, this is a great one to try. Out of the mains, the Fraser Valley Pork Belly took my vote for favourite dish of the day. This pork belly was slow cooked in blue buck ale, caramelized and then served with creamy mash, tomato relish, roast vegetables, and grainy mustard jus. If the creamy mash could be ordered on its on or as a side, I would order one because it was a buttery smooth slab of heaven on a plate. The pork belly was also pretty good with a good mix of tender, juicy, and crispy portions but the creamy mash stole this show. Onto dessert, the house-made Buttermilk Pannacotta was a creamy dessert topped with fresh berries, lemon jelly, and biscuits on the side. The biscuits were like soft shortbread cookies and made for a good plate for the pannacotta. The cream was very smooth, almost like a pudding, and the raspberries on top tasted very fresh. Finally, the Irish Coffee. If you’ve ever wondered what whiskey and coffee taste like together, the Irish Coffee is a good way to start. This was an especially bitter drink so I’m glad there was a creamy layer on top to filter the coffee through. I haven’t seen Irish Coffee served at other Irish pubs(yet) so if you’re looking for something authentic the Irish Coffee is a good reason to try out Dubh Linn Gate. All in all, for a pub, this food was much more exciting than I expected, and it turns out the head chef here has a background with Araxi and Blue Water Café-type restaurants. Long story short, if the food is what differentiates pubs, the food here is a big step above the neighbours and competitors in Olympic Village.

As an Irishman the last place I want to go on a night out is an Irish pub ;) with that said, I ended up there anyway and this place is awesome. The inside is very open with modern décor, they have live music pretty often, and a huge selection of drinks. My one minus mark is because the table service is hellllla slow at night time, so maybe I’ll just go up to the bar for our drinks next time. Update: I tried the Steak & Guinness pie here and it was pretty good. Decent quality steak slices with a fresh crusty pastry. Certainly a nice place for lunch.

Wheeeeeee! SURPRISE! A NEW pub next to the Olympic village! As I like leaving my playground and exploring the other side of da bridge… I was SO exited when I found out… The décor is SICK! The entrance doors are like ”stained glass”… Really nice and inviting… The vibe and the customers service FIVESTARS. I pick a classic haha but the fish and chips was WHAMMY! And the 1516AND the Guinness(I love Guinness) was FRESH! RUN! Fight to your right to party… And TRYOUT this new place!
