This place is probably the cheapest club to grab a drink in a club on the Granville strip. I don’t know how to describe it other than that. They sometimes have interesting events like foam parties. The crowd is interesting and not your typical Granville st. crowd. There is an upstairs level which is sometimes open however the main room is quite large and you can dance all around the club.

Joseph Richard has to be my favourite night club on the Granville strip, and I’ve been to more or less all of them. Ladies get in for free, but they give out tickets for free cover on the street. The music is a mix of top 40 and hip hop. Definitely easy to dance to and enjoy. Drinks are reasonably priced. I have always had a good time here. No drama, no trouble. Just a good time.

Always nice guys at the door and friendly bartenders that don’t cheap u out on alcohol. Not always the most active club but good atmosphere and probably some of the best deals on drinks.

Since bars change all the time, i want to be clear that it’s Saturday May 24, 2015. I went there tonight and it was the worst place I have been in many years. At midnight — 2AM there was no line at either the back bar or upper bar because everyone was on to the fact that they are serving 80% water to 20% alcohol out of the bottles. I bought the first round of double Vodka soada’s for my friends and everyone thought they were watered down singles. The next round I went up with a friend in the business and bought 2 more doubles of what we know best. Me, double crown royal and diet coke, him double Jack and Coke. Neither one of them taste like they even had half a shot of either alcohol. I think even the most amateur drinker could call this place out with their watered down drinks. I know my drinks! When I went to another place, after here, I ordered a singe Crown and diet coke and it taste like a real drink so I wasn’t off that night. If you are a bar tender there, try a straight shot. I believe it’s management trying to break even. I don’t believe it’s any bar tenders fault as both bars had watered down drinks. There was no line when we got there at midnight and no line at 1:30 when we left. This place doesn’t pack up at all. This place will be bankrupt by September or losing a ton of money if they are open. It was the first club I have ever seen in my life that had a 2 to 1 guy to girl ratio on the dance floor. They had a girl working the mic all night who seemed wasted, just making noises, and calling out to her friends in the crowd. This is the first rating on a club I have ever done as it’s the worst club I have ever been too. $ 15 cover, and watered down drinks is a bad combo for success on Granville St.

Soooo… I don’t really right reviews about clubs but after clubbing in vancouver for almost 10 years I feel like this one is much needed. I don’t go out as much as I use to… So I decided to dress up and have a night on the town this past Saturday which was valentines day. I don’t drink due to health issues but I still like to go dancing. I went to Joseph Richards, music sounded good so why not? Anyway bouncers were fine. I went to coat check my jacket, didn’t think much of it we had three coats, coat check girl put two of them together and one separate, and gave two tickets. Ok no big deal. The night went on and one of our friends decided to leave. Not sure which ticket was for which jacket we gave one, but it wasn’t the jacket we wanted so we handed the other one over. No big deal. But it was a big deal to the coat check. I’m sober. And I’m trying to explain to her that we only wanted to remove one jacket from coat check and the other two to remain coat checked. Well apparently she’s not the brightest of the bunch(working as a coat check girl so obvs not) anyway she starts raising her voice and going off saying do you want the jacket or not, and not even letting me answer and explain and then ignoring me and helping the people behind me. I’m sorry but what ever happened to being respectful? Is it ok for these uneducated girls who work at these bars to talk to people this way? I was in shock. I had both my tickets, I didn’t send her on a scavenger hunt to find the jackets so what’s so hard about taking a minute and letting me explain? Joseph Richards I believe you are apart of the donelley group. Why hire these incompetent girls to work in your bar and especially right in the front? My jacket is over $ 200 and was just thrown on the table like it was trash. I’m disgusted. There’s no respect with these girls and they make the clubbing experience in vancouver really terrible. I hope these girls will go and find a job that they actually enjoy instead of taking out the rest of the world. Oh and btw we ended up leaving and went to republic or whatever it’s called now. Great service from the bouncers and the coat check girls!!!

1. Respectful staff and even own up to mistakes such as taking away full drinks ie. brought me a new beer 2. Smells clean and floors sanitized properly and heavily 3. Watchful eye to make sure no one does anything dangerous or stupid without being overbearing — although I have never seen a bouncer near the bathroom hall 4. Music was varied however need a better DJ!!! The guy put quiet and slower music at 11pm for the first 1 — 1.5 hours and I am assuming it was for a birthday party where they used the dance floor to play a drinking game(great for party ppl not for regular guests) DJ kept singing the first verse of each song for the first part of the night — really unprofessional and especially bad sounding! Each song did not blend into the next, so dancing guests had to stop dancing and wait for up to 4 seconds till next song started… made it louder as night started but to the point of ear pain. The fake smoke was not cool… old 90’s style method… need a darker dance floor… too bright and too many lights a bad mix. 5. Nice beer and shot specials $ 3 — can’t beat that! 6. Booths were decorated nicely with napkins, straws and glasses for our guests 7. Asian Manager or Owner was dressed to impressed although I’m not a fan of having any male guest or owner-wise duck in and call out the birthday girls name in the girls bathroom. If the door is open, it does not mean you can peek in while girls are adjusting their bras, hair, makeup, etc. Privacy is important. Door ought to be closed. 8. Free tickets given out on granville street for friday nights… good idea.

If you like R&B and Hip Hop, you’re going to love this place! This was the first time I’ve ever went out clubbing and I was NOT dissapointed. Though I went on a Thursday night, I still had a ton of fun! I’m not sure if it’s just Canadians(I’m from Washington), but the staff were a little rude… In fact, majority of wherever I went in Canada, the service was RUDE! But overall, I highly recommend this club!

I have been to this place a few times this year and I disagree with a lot of these negative reviews. This place is always a good time, it may be a bit small for dancing but the place is always full and the music isn’t really that bad either. Quit hatin! The one thing I must comment on is that the bartenders are a group of assholes, and the bouncers think their on Jerry Springer… Fuck ‘em.

A small club. No big deal really… just a DJ booth that overlooks a decent, medium sized dance floor and a bar at the back. Ok first of all, fuck this place on a Saturday because it smells like straight poo and body odor. yikes. And on top of that they play EDM which enhances the stank and produces an even larger headache. The reason for the 4 stars? FRIDAYNIGHTHIPHOP& R&B 90’s POP overpowered the sprinkles and bits of EDM, which is what I’m cool with. Just as long as it’s not all EDM, it’s ALL good. That… and omg. So we ordered 3 vodka tonics. The bar tender gave us a check for $ 12. I thought he messed up at first and only charged us for one drink. Ordered another round… he did it again. «HOLYSHITYOURDRINKSAREONLY $ 4???» …Dude, RATCHETCITY was LIVE that night. And the complimentary shots… Woo, we were on one. The staff was overly accommodating. I think the bartender told the DJ about us visiting and he shouted out«LA girls» and pointed to us… haha borderline creepy? Yes a little bit, but it was funny. Good times good times.

Alright so… Here’s the thing. I don’t go clubbing. I’ve been clubbing twice ever before this time and I’m not even sure if they count because they were gay dance clubs primarily for men and therefore I wasn’t really in the spotlight. I came here though, completely randomly with a couple of people and I was already drinking before I got there(at a rapid pace)… …alright. so, here’s the thing. I don’t usually throw up. In fact, I’ve only thrown up once before and that was from drinking games destroying me. Are bathrooms meant to be used to dispose of bodily fluids? I thought so. But apparently, if you want to throw up, you damn well better do it on Granville St. Alright so I’m a classy bitch: I was doing my pee. I realized I was going to puke. I wiped myself off, sat on the floor, and started to puke. My shorts were down and my ass was bare. Security guys said«yep she’s sitting in the floor»(within ten seconds) and somehow got INTO the stall(again, I’m showing bare skin), and told me I had to throw up outside. I’m really confused. Like, I get it, throwing up is gross. But so is shitting. Are people thrown onto the street to shit, too? On the brightside, there was a lovely lady there the first time I went to pee and we spoke for a long time. She even asked to add me on Facebook. My highball was $ 4.

3⁄100 NYE. 3 clubs. I am not too sure what to say about this place. The door staff made us wait and my GF seemed kind ticked not to be getting VIP treatment when she knew the owner, but such is life. The DJs were pumped. The NY was rung in with PSY then Party Rock Anthem! There was some nice spinning chandeliers. The bartender was very friendly although they had no lemon. ARGH… I thought that was an Island thing, no lemon. In the big city I expect lemon! Oh well there was drunks a plenty here tonight, like I thought I liked to party. When some young brown skin guy asked me if I wanted to grind I realized it was time to go! I think my GF might be a coug I have NOIDEA why she brought me here! WOW.(Electronica mixed with Top 40 followed by dubstep)

The best way I can describe Joseph Richard: completely average. Free cover if you get there early enough. Otherwise, it’s comparable to other clubs in the area. Smaller dance floor, obnoxious person hired to play drums along with the music all night. Friendly staff(for a change), drinks not too pricey, and bartenders did some tricks. Crowd was decent but pretty small. Biggest complaints: tiny bathrooms(3 stalls) and ventilation problems. It was insanely hot and smelled like smoke machine everywhere. Anyway. It’s an okay club for whatever — but I wouldn’t rush to book your stag or birthday here.

Brittany’s description is still pretty accurate of this place. When it re-opened it was a little more ‘gangsta’ but it seems to have simmered down a little. Sometimes they will have cheap/free tickets from promoter girls on Granville on nights they want to help fill the bar. Two of the bartenders remembered what drink I liked and seemed to enjoy themselves there, which is nice. Bathrooms were clean and well serviced. At least the guy’s was. I wouldn’t know about the women’s. That would be inappropriate.

Stopped into Joseph Richard on Saturday night to use up a voucher for a $ 60 bar tab and VIP cover… I am not sure what was VIP about the experience since coat check was quite expensive and we were denied access to a booth or any form of seating, and the night was young, hence why we just wanted to chill and have some drinks. The drinks are good but range from price to what the eff expensive, $ 15 for a martini made of crap alcohols, you really should be giving the good stuff for that price! The décor is also rather what the eff, from a DJ booth that looks like an old boom box, to some weird chandeliers, to gold foiled mannequins hanging out of the wall it was too much confusing décor decisions to make sense of while drunk. The music ranged from bad 80’s, 90’s and current tunes which were actually decently mixed, until of course the live saxephone player showed up and started playing along with the DJ. I wasn’t thrilled by this and chose to cut my losses and move my party elsewhere at that point!

Best remixed top 40(throughout the decades) along the Granville Strip on a Saturday night! We often stop by for a drink and to enjoy the saxophone musician that plays along with the DJ. What’s more: — Crowd by fever: yellow(65%), brown(15%), white(10%), other(10%) — Crowd by age: early to mid-twenties — Dress code: moderately dressy, but not strict on rules — Friendly bouncers and bartenders — Often a slow start to the night(ie. busy on a Saturday by 11:30pm)

I came back here on my last Vancouver trip because it was the cheapest cover. We managed to negotiate the girls for something like $ 8 and the guys for $ 15 each. They played good music and it was just crowded enough. We had quite a few drinks and everyone had a good time. I would come back!

Joseph Richard isn’t the best nightclub in Vancouver. Great thing is that our group of girls got in for free on a Saturday night. It’s free before 10:00PM and we got there at 10:25PM. The dance floor is a little small and they really need to do something about the ventilation. We were sweating like crazy in there. Oh sorry. I meant«glistening». The music is a good mix of top 40 and they had some guy that was playing a saxophone with the music. I don’t know what to think of that. It’s interesting…

Went here on a Satuday night, I’ve been here before, but sadly, it disappoints again! The DJ really sucks, I don’t understand why the music can’t just be mainstream hip hop, or pop. Why mash up the two, along with techno and trance music mixed in?! I really wanted to get out of the venue! I couldn’t even dance to one song. Please hire a new DJ! I also don’t get why they have a saxophone player? If I wanted to listen to Jazz, I would go to a Jazz club somewhere! Not cool. The crowd was not impressive, like another Unilocal reivewer said, greasy looking boys and girls. Drinks were so-so, nothing impressive. Odd mix of people, like they walked off of Granville street and decided to hit any one club. I wish I knew better. Careful if you go to the ladies room, the chick can’t stop saying«That’s by TIP only you know?» If you touch every little THING of hers, even a piece of mint, she’ll say«You know that’s by tip only, right?» 6 times I went to the bathroom to touch up my makeup, and EACH time she handed me a paper towel, she’ll automatically say«Tip Only». Omgosh, if I wanted to get my own hand towel I would, but there was no dispenser, just her! Clubs in Vegas, New York, Seattle etc. don’t bug the heck out of you like that! They aren’t hurting that much for tips! It’s like dining at a restaurant, and your waitress saying, even before you order your food, «Where’s my tip?!» Get a life!

I have been to a lot of nightclubs but its nothing special. By adding a special vip key door entrance is neat but lame for Vancouver. The music is okay and design is cute but i don’t see anything«boutique» about it! Over priced.

Good: The guest manager(insert name here once I find her card) was very helpful and got us set up with table and bottle service very quickly. Our waitress(insert name when hangover wears off). was also top shelf. Very friendly and attentive. These 2 ladies, along with the generally nice look of the place earn the stars given. Bad: The clientele there is VERY greasy. Most of the girls were lovely BUT dressed like, well, they ‘worked’ there. The guys all looked looked like they had fallen out of the pages of ed hardy and into a ball of hair grease. The DJ couldn’t make up his mind whether he wanted to inspire fun 90s flashbacks or play the soundtrack to ‘Night at the Roxbury”.
