The service is usually quick and friendly, even on busy summer Saturdays. The food is okay, but certainly seems a bit pricey, which I suppose is not unusual for a Granville Market business.

Wow, $ 6.50 for a tiny turkey smokie! Not worth it at all, though kid liked it.

Sandwiches are really good and fresh made to order. Very filling. $$$, however, they use the cuts in their shop. Customer service was very friendly. Service was slow, however, it was very very busy.

I ordered a Bavarian Sausage plate with a bun and this comes with a side of perogies. I don’t know why I ordered a bun because this comes on a plate and I didn’t intend on holding my sausage in my hands. Save the dollar on the bun if you’re not in a rush. The perogies were potato based and a little smaller than what you’d find in grocers but they weren’t as hot as I would like them. They were just warm, and I understand maybe at the end of the day they don’t taste as good. The Bavarian sausage had a nice spicy zing to it and gave a satisfying crunch when I bit into it. I think an important factor of sausage is flavour juice, not fat juice. This sausage delivered on the flavour juice, and was better than I thought for a fast food stall. I don’t recommend coming here near closing though as my previous visit during lunch hours was much better.

A spicy bratwurst with fried onions and kraut — doesn’t get much better than that … except when we told the lady we were on our honeymoon, and she gave it to us free! Amazing. They had a great selection of sausages and toppings. Great little place.

I rarely eat meat/sausage, but I was quite excited when I saw potato and cheese pierogies. My boyfriend and I shared a platter(a type of pierogies and a German sausage) with grilled onion, sauerkraut and sour cream. Their pierogies were perfect bite-sized and boiled to order(just to warm up). Once we got our food, it was hard to find a table to eat at. Their spicy bratwurst was not spicy at all, and it was blah. I did, however, enjoy the potato and cheese pierogies with lots of sour cream.(They could have been cheesier!!)

My wife’s aunt led us to Granville Public Market while we were in Vancouver, BC. There were plenty of food options. I forgot to bring my list which I had prepared a while back for places I wanted to try here. We did not add internet data to our cell phone plan for this international trip so I could not go onto Unilocal to help me decide what I wanted. So I walked around and looked for the longest line. Figured that the longest line meant that the place is the most popular and therefore the best choice. Well, while I was there, the line at Kaisereck was the longest. So, I decided to order from here. I chose the Beef Smokey. It is a gourmet German sausage made with a 100% Canadian Beef. I ordered it with sauerkraut and grilled onions and added some condiments to it. The beef smokey(in a cold bun) tasted decent, but I felt that it was too overpriced. For the price you pay here, the product should taste way better. Overall, I can only give Kaisereck 2 stars. I’ve experienced many other similar places that are better. Would I return here? Probably not. If I did, then I’d try something else on their menu. There are many other choices at Granville Public Market. I’ll make sure, next time, to be prepared with my «Places to Go» list for Granville. I learned that I cannot use«the place with the longest line» as the basis for choosing a particular place.

My boyfriend wanted to show me his favorite spot at this food court from a couple years back and remembered there being a perogy spot. This didn’t end up being that spot and the perogies didn’t quite live up, but we still had a good meal. Also, the girl at the counter was really nice. Of course, they weren’t that busy at 3pm on a Thursday, but she was still really attentive and friendly. There’s a huge mustard selection: We got the Perogy Plate: Mini Perogies w/your choice of Gourmet German Sausage($ 8.95, add a bun for $ 1). It’s a good variety plate, and you get to try two types of perogy if you’re indecisive like me. Perogies in case: Sausages: * Spicy Bratwurst Sausage — 3.5 stars Good, nice texture, but not very spicy! * Cheddar & Potato Perogies — 4 stars Best part of the meal. The outer part of the perogies were soft and the mashed potato filling was incredibly soft. I couldn’t taste the cheddar too much, but I do appreciate how well it was blended. * Pork Mini Perogies — 3 stars While the shell was soft as well, the meat filling was very dry and not flavorful. I wished we had gotten all cheddar/potato! Perogy menu: Sausage menu:

Customer service is a huge selling point for me, and did this place sell me on it. The server facilitated easy conversation, exchanged genuine smiles, and walked me right through their menu options. Hot or cold; sliced bread, circle buns, or otherwise; dark rye, light rye, whole wheat, multigrain, white; varied veggie and cheese assortment. Napkins, free. Perfect. For a Vancouver tourist hotspot, it’s a quick and cheap bite. I like to bring my food out on the Granville Island docks on a sweet summer day and get mauled by jealous seagulls. You haven’t been to Vancouver until you’ve experienced the wildlife.

When you compare them to some of the other food court options at the market, they’re not bad. We had an order of the mini perogies — couldn’t decide on which type, so we had mix of the chicken and the cheese/potato perogies. It comes with a decent dollop of sour cream and a small heap of panfried onions. Again, they aren’t bad; they’re just not great either. The taste was alright, but you can tell that they’re not very fresh. The onions lacked flavour and you can visibly tell that they weren’t given full attention(cooked unevenly). Sour cream lacked a kick, and the perogies themselves didn’t wow.

Why is it that every time I visit GI(which is often) everything looks«delish» and I suddenly become a tourist? And why it is that shortly afterwards, I always regret my choice? I noticed that the Asian-Polish perogy place had closed, and I was secretly relieved as they could never quite deliver that authenticity(and who could blame them)? Then I found Kaisereck. Wearing my «tourist» blinders, I ordered a perogy platter hoping for some authenticity here. Nope; not even close. My heart dropped a bit when I saw my server count out a tiny amount of perogies, and half of them were broken. It’s not too difficult to keep perogies«whole» when boiled properly, much like preventing pasta from sticking together when boiling. But I could tell that I was dealing with amateurs here, and no one resembled anyone from any side of the Eastern bloc. Too bad for me. I asked for extra onions, and of course their requisite«watered down» sour cream and then requested some pepper as there was none to be found. I tried a few different types of mustards for the sausage and even added some«hidden» bacon. So $ 12+ dollars later, I was ready to share my plate. By the time we found a seat anywhere at all(outside; free of bird crap) our food was cool. The sausage was rubbery and overcooked – not with a nice char, but boiled – so much so that it didn’t seem to make a difference what the temp of the food rested at. The perogies were okay, but I think that I would have enjoyed the sour cream, sauerkraut, onions and bacon just as much mixed together on their own. The meal seemed to match the cloudy skies of the day. A word of advice: No matter how tempting the food court might be, no matter how appealing the food might appear at first glance, do yourself a favour: buy some food to go and take it home to make it yourself. That’s what we should have done!

First of all, I’d like to apologize to all the neighboring quick-bites in Granville Island. I only come here for lunch whenever I visit. No one can argue against a Bratwurst and caramelized onions on a bun, with the exception of seagulls being obnoxious from unsuccessful stealth operations. And I mean NOONE– You can’t steal this from my iron grasp, I’ll go all Margaret Thatcher on you with my bag. And that’s a promise!

*Three and a Half Stars* I want to again quote Edina from AbFab: «I DON“T WANTMORECHOICES!!! I JUSTWANTBETTERTHINGS!!!» I don’t think she would have been satisfied with better things AND lots of choices, but such is the case here. At a deli. I“m drooling now just thinking about all the yummy choices… Sandwiches and weiners/smokies/sausages. Have I mentioned there are many delicious options? Have I mentioned that I repeat myself? Imagine a dream where you find a genie in a bottle who can grant you any sandWISH you want… name your bread/bun, name your fillings and condiments. Name IT!!! (Your wish is granted: )

* Quick Schnitzel * It has been a long time since I’ve grabbed a bite to eat in the Granville Market foodcourt. I was craving schnitzel and remembered that Kaisereck sometimes does it well. I took the default options — sauerkraut, pickle, and German mustard on a Kaiser roll. They reheated the schnitzel on a grill to warm it up. It was not particularly crispy, but didn’t suck at least. :) Photo: It did its duty for a quick lunch at least!

Stopped here for a quick bite before exploring the rest of the market. Owner is very attentive and nice. There is an extensive menu and if you can’t find anything you like, well… you can just build your own sandwich instead. I think it’s a great place to stop by and pick up some picnic staples. My husband ordered the Spicy Bratwurst w/grilled onions. He highly recommends the grilled onions as they were sweet. Lots of condiments you can add and are located to the side of the stand. I had the Smoked Salmon(Lox & Cream Cheese) on an Onion Bagel. Very good service and good food. Price was not bad compared to a lot of the other establishments near by. Check out my pics.

Decent place to stop for lunch when you need a break from perusing the foods and wares of the market. I can vouch for both the hot pastrami on rye and all-beef hot dog — both are excellent. I’ve seen other places in the market charge upwards of $ 7.50 for a grilled cheese, so being able to get lunch for two(drink included) for less than $ 13 isn’t all that bad.

For the $ 6.95 special(turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato) I expect a little more than a sandwich that I can hold and eat with one hand. With all of the fixings laid out in front of me… I thought they’d at least garnish with a yummy looking pickle that was taunting me. Or maybe a slice of cheese? But nothing. It tasted good, but I felt a lot ripped off! Next time I’ll be on top of bratwurst — they looked good — although I was a little worried when I saw that all of the condiments were around the side next to one of the entrances to the market. Not a big deal, except for the lower level of condiments(yes there were two levels) were all exposed with no sneeze guard in sight.
