If you like bright colors and patterns, this is the place for you. Lots of printed cotton clothing from Asia, in a limited assortment of cuts and even more limited assortment of sizes. As a size 10 with boobs, I didn’t find much here that fit me, sadly. But I was thrilled to find a few Desigual shirts tucked in with the rest of the stock, and I’ve never seen their clothes so well-priced.

I love having a few pieces from Kali, the clothes are very distinctive. All of the fabrics are natural, organic and best of all made locally. You really have to go in there and touch and look at the clothes to understand why it is so compelling. If you find Lululemon overpriced and tiresome, but would like some comfy, unique pieces then try this place out.

Holy bold colors Batman. I’ve always wanted to come to this store, however, every time I get off work and head down, it has been closed or simply, the bus goes by so fast on my way to the record store that this goes off my radar. I walked in here finally ’cause of Car Free day and I love the bold colors. All the clothes are quality stitched and reasonably priced. The lady at the til was super friendly and helpful.

The mannequins in Kali’s storefront reminded me of the Spanish brand Desigual – bright and bold colors and prints – so I was definitely curious to see what was inside. While I love color, most of the clothes didn’t have enough subtlety; if you like tribal-tropical influences, you might be into it(perhaps it was just the personality of the season). The store has a few actual Desigual pieces but most items seem to be heavily inspired, less expensive versions. They also have yoga wear, jewelry and bags. The prices are reasonable and they have a good sale rack in the back(I love a good sales rack!). An extra star for the friendly and attentive lady holding down the shop on a busy Saturday afternoon.

Not to be confused with the store on Commercial Drive, Kali is a clothing shop on Main Street that sells casual clothing for women. There are rows of yoga pants and quite a few yoga tops. They have scarves, sarongs, flowy pants and cardigans, which I bought right away after trying on. The materials used are light weight and eco-friendly. Did I mention they are part of Fair Trade? Fair Trade is basically an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries to make better trading conditions and promote sustainability.(Thanks Wikipedia) The sales people here remind me of yoga instructors, very helpful and zen at the same time. Kali first opened in Montréal and now have a second store in Vancouver. I like what they stand for and how they promote their product so I hope they do well. They have my vote!
