I really love the beef hotpot there and mentaiko pasta. Sushi is good and well made. Overall, its one of my dinner place in dt.

Pretty good service and atmosphere, but the food is honestly not that great and certainly overpriced. My deluxe unagi wasn’t bad but wasn’t worth $ 20 either.

The food was average for Vancouver sushi. Prices were on the medium to higher side. The restaurant service was good. The service in the Karaōke bar, however, was terrible. Within minutes of sitting down, we were told that there would be a minimum charge of $ 5 per person. We said no problem, as we were planning to drink. About half of us ordered drinks or snacks. Most of us just ate at the restaurant. The others wanted to wait and sing first. The server again advised us that there is a minimum $ 5 charge per person, which we replied«Yes we know, that’s fine. We are going to order more, but not right now» Though out the rest of the night, more of our friend showed up, and the server constantly hovered around us and harassed us about the minimum charge. We all found this extremely classless and poor service. We spoke with the bartender and finally they left us alone. By the end of the night, the minimum charge was not a problem as we spent much more. The kicker was that they tried to slap a mandatory 15% gratuity charge on our bill, although we were under the minimum amount of people required for a group. I don’t usually write bad reviews, but I felt that this was necessary so others who plan to go here for karaōke know what they are getting into. PS. I am also a server.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The staff at the karaōke side kept hassling us to buy a drink when we stated we would once we looked at the menu. They kept demanding and pointing to the menu stating 10 $ minimum and 5 $ minimum for the restaurant. We were trying to hangout and drink and it became very uncomfortable. I will never come back. They constantly hounded everyone in out group stating the same things over and over again

Their tuna tataki with garlic and pepper is divine. Some sushi are overpriced for the quality, yakisoba wasn’t greatest. Hot sake was average.

I had always wanted to try this place out so when a friend suggested it as a meeting point I was more than happy to check it out. The décor is very traditional Japanese, with Baseball game playing on TV to ensure that you feel like you have just landed in Tokyo. The waitresses are sporting Kimonos and all staff were really friendly. We ordered a bottle of the Premium Sake which came to the table in a bamboo container with matching bamboo shot glasses and was very smooth. I’d highly recommend it. For food we tried a bunch of appetizers, the squid with tofu and crab salad were just out of this world. Needless to say I’ll be back for more Japanese goodness!

It’s first week of Dec 2015, I just heard this place is moving. I plan to check out the new digs next time I visit BC. Please don’t go too far and keep making awesome food at fair prices. Good luck Kamei Royale on your new endeavour! ********************************************* Last review August 2015 Absolutely love this place! I have been coming here for many years whenever I visit beautiful BC. Service is always excellent! They do everything right and everything is delicious. Ordered: Sushi boat Chirashi platter Salad Tempura Katsu Don Did not leave anything on our plates. Thanks for a great meal!

Wow was here a year ago and it rocked, the service today was so bad I’m thinking WTF over Sushi chief was great !! 100%, Food was OK but this place has got up its own back side and just rude, manager didn’t give a F so that’s why I doing this review. 20 mins for a hand roll ! And on a Thursday night at 8.30pm and the place is half full on seats and the sushi bar has 7 seats with 3 people on them(I’m one of them) Sorry guys not getting me back !! Unless I see better reviews of service, managers saw me but they really have NO clue and will just run it the way the wish too Best of luck and lose all the money you wish too as to nights a $ 50 night for me and not a $ 100 so if you lose that much a night per customer and your happy best to you

I have been here for many years since I was a child and the food is amazing as always! I usually bring my family with me since the portions are quite large for one person. Things I commonly order are: –Nabeyaki Udon –Seafood Salad –Crunch Munch Roll –Ultimate Unagi –California Roll All of these things are sooo delicious and a little on the cheaper side as well. Service is very friendly and they remember everytime I come in, which is really fun because I made many friends. Even though some of the servers were not Japanese and instead Chinese, it only made it easier for my grandparents since they cannot speak that well English. Tempura is very crispy and well battered. I highly recommend the Deluxe Tempura. One thing that caught me off guard that did not make me give this a 5 star,(You are going to laugh at this) There is this one chef which works at the sushi bar and he always stares at me when I come in. Not showing off or anything its just really creepy… But overall very nice food and good service!

This place hasn’t changed much over the last few years. I’m almost hoping for some new choices, some innovation! It’s a Japanese fusion-ish restaurant with some interesting sharing plates. The only changes they’ve done is omitting some dishes. I remember a really great fried fish platter that seems to be missing today. Dinner today: — Panko Oysters — Small, so very small. Note to self: do not order again. — Tiger Mayo — Coating of peanuts was quite dry on the prawns. Prawns were overcooked and tough. — Agedashi Tofu — Great fried tofu! Perhaps a few more edamame beans? Those are quite lovely with the tofu. — Delicious Roll — Chopped Scallop joy! Mango goes great with everything! Our choices were safe/boring this time, and I apologize for that. Service was almost over-efficient. It’s not a bad thing! Everybody was really friendly and helpful. I’d definitely come back here! I will cross my fingers for better food next time!

One of the best places to go for Japanese food in downtown Vancouver. Expect to pay a bit more than your usual Japanese restaurants around, but when you look at the quality of the food it is far better. I do love coming here for lunch because their lunch boats are awesome! I haven’t come here for dinner in a long time but I’m sure the quality and service are very good.

An all time favourite of mine. I usually go there with friends or family since this restaurant offers great food, great service(most of the time), and great environment. It’s usually relatively quiet during dinner times but during lunch times on weekdays it could get quite busy. Line ups form fast here so reservation is recommended. Personally, I enjoy their yuzu mojito and their sashimi salad the most. Their thunder fries are also worth a try. The sashimi salad is both filing and quite healthy, with a lot of sashimi actually.

This is the place we picked to have dinner the first night in Vancouver and it wasn’t good. They had the basics. I feel like since the menu gives you a lot of options, you don’t know what to get. When given the food the presentation is crappy. My mom got the Cherry Blossom Sushi roll and a piece of Saran Wrap was on the bottom of her sushi. The service was okay but other than that the food was not good.

There’s nothing special about the food at this Japanese restaurant – I’ve been going here for years and never thought to leave a review until I had lunch there this afternoon. As you might imagine, lunchtime anywhere in the Downtown Core will be a hectic, chaotic situation of rush, rush, rush! One wouldn’t expect anything more than minimum service by the bustling staff at any place offering lunch for below $ 25/person. I ordered a standard combo for lunch which was good, albeit unremarkable. What was remarkable was the service from one of the servers, Hitomi, who was all smiles despite the onslaught of lunch orders. She was quick, but I didn’t get a sense of urgency or pushiness typical of a server during the lunch rush. What really set me to getting off my lazy behind and penning a review was the fact that she proactively noticed, even though I was sitting in a small table tucked at the corner, that my chicken teriyaki appeared to be a little bit red,(hell, I didn’t even notice) and whisked it away to have the kitchen cook me a new one. Five star service(from Hitomi, at least), three star food. Yay! I’m a fan.

The food was decent, but the service was terrible. For a city full of great sushi and Japanese restaurants, give this one a pass. We were a large party(of 17) which I can understand can be difficult for any restaurant, but Kamei Royale has enough large rooms that you’d think they had lots of experiences with groups. Not the case. Service was incredibly slow. We would ask for something and it would arrive at our table 30 minutes later. When we placed orders, I don’t know why they didn’t mark down who ordered what. When food arrived at the table it was a frustrating exercise to figure out what order goes to which person. Food came so slowly too. Some people were finished eating before I had even gotten my order and I didn’t even order anything too complicated! I got their Volcano Roll($ 10) which is a spicy salmon roll with tempura shavings and cubes of avocado. Interesting that the tempura and avocado weren’t actually in the roll itself. I also got their Mentaiko Udon($ 12) which was the one of the last dishes to arrive. Both tasted good, but definitely didn’t make up for the lack of service. Also, they charge a tea fee($ 1.50 per person). No thanks, I’ll go somewhere else.

Cute restaurant right on Burrard Street easy to walk to from hotels. Cute location and setting. Loved the décor and layout. Very cozy feeling. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Food was fresh and delicious. A must for sushi if in Vancouver.

Well established traditional Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Burrard St. and Georgia St. It’s on the 2nd floor of a mall-type building and you’ll find the traditional restaurant adornments throughout. About half of their seating is in semi-private enclosed 4-top tables on the outer edge of the restaurant separated by light curtains and partitions built in. It’s a nice private feel but at times has that aquarium feel about it(people looking into your area). We ordered some sushi rolls, their Cherry Blossom Roll, their famous Crunch & Munch Roll, and Katsu Don. It was all made well but nothing stood out more than most. The quality and freshness was there indeed. Perhaps the real winner was the Katsu Don with the freshly fried Katsu and wholesome fresh egg atop. We came here on advice of restauranteur recommendation. It was good but maybe I was expecting a bit more. Good nonetheless and in all fairness, with it’s longevity I just need to give it a few more tries from their vast menu.

Eigentlich wollte ich zum«All you can eat”-Sushi nebenan. Alles in allem drei Sterne.
