It is Mahoney. Over priced beer and adequate food. Try the golf Course instead so you are not wasting your time and money.

Generic, characterless Irish pub that presumably survives by being in a visible and convenient location on UBC campus. The beer list is predictably middle of the road-​think Guinness, Stella, and Keith’s-and the handful of «craft» beers are of the most corporate variety: Goose Island (owned by Anheuser-​Busch InBev) and Granville Island (owned by Molson Coors). Food is mediocre and expensive. The space is huge and generic, though they do have a patio. Unlike other reviewers, I found the service to be fine, but the uniform consisting of needlessly short plaid skirts is a bit much.

Not fond of it. Slow service and the nacho chips were stale. The rest of the food is OK.

Three stars for the nachos. Stay away from the burgers; they simply cannot get it right no matter how you order it.
This place is a bar. A large, loud chasm of a bar with a generous wrap-​around patio. Capacity must be at least 200. If you want to eat here, expect noise, mediocre food, slow service and high prices. But hey, I hear the booze list is a good one and the bar service is dialed in!
Don’t get me wrong, the servers are great — so nice. They really want to do a good job but I’m so glad I don’t work here. What kind of manager has one server on the job during World Cup soccer when it’s hosted in your city? That’s right. At one point, my friend and I waited 25 minutes before we decided to find out why the folks who came after us were being served and we hadn’t even been asked for a drink order.
The response: «Another server has been called in. They should be here in 20 minutes.»
One server at lunch time on a Sunday? Really? We left and went down the street to Vera’s where three young men and an older gent were taking orders and cooking behind the counter. The capacity for Vera’s including patio is about 30.
Vera’s is another story.

Despite the fact that I hate post-​secondary education I find myself here surprisingly often. The service is always wonderful, the girls are very friendly, and it has a great atmosphere. They are however lacking vegan and vegetarian options, forcing me to have a liquid lunch whenever I am here. I am A-​OK with that but in the event that I want to be sober at work I would like to be able to have a meal with my cosmo.

Happy with the food quality — the Kid had the fish and chips and I the veggie burger /​winners all ’round and the servers were good

Beautiful views of false creek; some left to be desired from the food.
Salads are over seasoned/​WAY too much sauce to enjoy/​eat and pub food is about average quality but price point is higher.
If you get a patio seat, stick with a slightly overpriced pint and eat elsewhere.

The food is basically OK. And the service was good, especially managing a large group effortlessly. But 18% group gratuity starts to push the line, even though it is charged before tax. We came back a couple of hours later for a night cap, just six of us, and were still charged 18% gratuity. Over the top!
Mahoney’s has a limited and odd menu. Overpriced, especially in a student environment. Perhaps that is why the place was practically empty at 10:00pm on a Friday night. Too many great restaurants in Vancouver to waste your money here!

I am a first year here, and maybe it used to suck– but Mahoneys is almost my FAVORITE restaurant.
Food–
let me first start by saying that I only went to Mahoney’s for the first time 3 days ago. I have been 5– yes 5– times since. I wanted to ensure a proper evaluation.
I had the lamb stew, which the lamb just melted in your mouth and its pricey but delicious. All my friends at the table (4 of us total) stole a bunch of my stew broth for their fries because it was addicting. The lamb was smaller than expected– but SERIOUSLY delicous.
The next day I had the lamb sandwich, which was AMAZING. It’s my favorite thing here so far. The lamb is so good at Mahoney’s and their foux au jus whatever it is they use for the lamb is delicious with the pretzel bun it comes on.
The chicken salad isn’t easy to mess up, but is delicous.
Their steak is always cooked perfectly– my friend ordered medium rare I ordered medium well and I don’t think any restaurant has ever gotten it so right on to the cooking level that was ordered.
If you want a sampler platter– they have the BEST all around platter– Mahoney’s platter has: Calamari, Wings, Tenders, Parm Bread, Chips, and Ribs. THIS MADE MY DAY I AM A MEAT LOVER.
Drinks–
Okay, expensive– yes. Not SUPER expensive, but pricey for sure. 3 $$$ signs, but not 4 $$$$. The waitress just tonight introduced me to a Bert Renolds. I’ll get back to service later. Had my first Moscow Mule and it seems they make their cocktails to PERFECTION.
Service–
The ladies… I love them. Seriously. I love them so much. I wish I had a phone number to write on the receipt but am too ashamed to simply write «Leon Rosenberg is my fb add me»
The kilts are a wonderful treat and the staff is honestly just delightful. They are VERY quick to refill drinks which surprised me for an on campus establishment. I am in love with 4 of the staff already and am surely to be married soon.
Price–
Ok. Everytime I walk out I spend about 30 – 40 $
I always have at least a beer.
I love Mahoney’s. Tonight they had some great live music– only for half an hour which was very lucky on my part to have come right as he set up which is a shame but was very fun :)

Currently standing waiting to be seated. Was told 20 minute wait, have been waiting for 35 (so far) and the three groups ahead of us have not been seated yet. Additionally, the folks seated ahead of us are all still waiting for service so I’ll be honest, I’m not hopeful. (Customers are getting up and getting their own water… seriously?) Wish we would have checked out the poor reviews before choosing this place tonight!

Hands-​down the worst dining experience I have ever had. There was lipstick stain on the glass provided for me, but neither the manager now the waitress apologized after I pointed it out to them. Their attitude was rude.
The glass was unwashed — it had lipstick stain on it (I have posted two photos). Very disturbing. I pointed this out to the manager, who, to my surprise, did not apologize about the stain. The manager did exchange a new glass of water for me, but his attitude was very cold and said «it was just a glass of water.»
I complained to the waitress about the stain as well, and surprisingly, she did not intent to apologize either. I told her that «this was the worst dining experience I have had in a long time», and her response was «just because there’s lipstick on the glass?» I found the response incredibly cold and offensive.
I will never come back to the restaurant. I would recommend fellow diners not to come here either, considering the low standards of sanitization and service quality.

Solid 3.5 stars, as not much option for Irish pubs here at UBC but this is one serious, nice location that baffles the mind as to how students can afford a $ 20 burger!
Came here last year when you weren’t allowed to park in the front but last month, had another late game here and glad they changed the whole setup, plus a whole row of CartoGo smart cars on Wesbrook Mall.
Ok, back to the resto. A weird layout as, there seems to be 3 segregated section, and an even more confusing set of doors to enter.
Sitting by the washrooms, clean by the way, is one section, but the middle part super cramped.
The far side is actually some discrete seating area with those semi-​foldable walls.
Ordered a burger that was average, and can’t say it was memorable.
Ambience-​wise, it’s a fun one without any snootiness at all.

I’d give the food here 3 stars. It’s alright for pub grub for after class when all the other sit down places on campus is closed. Their basics (yam fries, nachos) are above average. But when you factor in price, I’d drop it down a star.
Some reviewers have commented on the waitreses and the skirts they wear. It’s nothing anyone really noticed or talked about from UBC. For instance, no one has ever said to me, «Hey, let’s go to Mahoney’s, there are hot girls there.» It’s not that type of place at all, this place survives largely on it’s central location on campus, and the fact that it’s the only non-​fast food place that’s consistently open after 7pm that doesn’t require a good knowledge of UBC to find. That’s really why people go here, because they’re too lazy to hop on the 99 to 4^th ave or Kits for 10 minutes.
Might just be because in Vancouver, it seems like every bar/​lounge/​pub tries to hire waitresses in their twenties that dress to a strict dress code. Combine the fact that I’m guessing all of the waitresses go to UBC, where there’s a high amount of attractive, fit girls, it could appear to international students or to out-​of-​towners to be weird.
This place is overpriced. If you just want a late night drink, the gallery is a way better deal (though they have far less food options, it’s of no worse a quality).
Also, Mahoney’s is almost never packed unless it’s super sunny and everyone is out on the deck. It can get busy on Thursday nights but I’ve never had trouble finding a seat. It’s not even really a «fun» pub considering it’s great location. They have no pool tables, no shuffleboard, and always have the shittiest bands playing.
If you do a bit of searching, there’s a place called Koerner’s Pub at UBC hidden in the Graduate Society Building. It serves better food for a better price. The problem is, Koerner’s is closed on weekends, so Mahoney’s survives as it’s the only alternative for pub grub for lazies that don’t want to hit West Broadway.

Great place but overpriced for what it offers. You’d think they would tailor to the university population more, but $ 20 (and an extra four bucks for guac) for nachos isn’t totally student friendly. Great outdoor patio and a friendly Irish pub ambience.

I have nothing good to say about this place. Warm beer glasses. Horrible waitress with non existent service

Good food, good service, but punishing prices.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. The waiters/​waitresses just chat around instead of going to people to ask for their orders or bring out their food.
OVERPRICED. Way too overpriced for what the food truly is. The food was average. I would compare it to a cheap diner.
Never coming back here again.

There’s slim pickings for good food/​drinks on campus and even less if you’re looking for a sit-​down place… so this explains how a few friends and I end up here one afternoon.
Definitely not my style — I’m not a pub girl at the best of times and this place leaves much to be desired. Service is below average… hmmm, is it really that hard to find a table when your place is empty and maybe check in a few times when we’re one of your only customers?
Prices are a lot higher than what I remembered having to pay as a student when going to the campus pub! Typical pub fare of soups, burgers, chicken fingers, etc… I suppose they don’t have a lot of competition on UBC’s campus but I’m pretty sure I’ll go hungry instead next time I’m in the area.

Our department had their annual Halloween party on Friday night, and we ran out of alcohol at 8:00 PM. Instead of shutting down the party, we decided to move all 60+ of us to Mahony’s. Luckily, they were easily able to accommodate all of us at a bunch of tables in the back, and were pretty quick with pitcher delivery and removal. I was just impressed they could accommodate so many of us with so little notice on a Friday night. We didn’t try any food, but the beer was alright.
The prices for food are a bit high, but for a pub on campus, it would definitely be a good place to go for a drink or two after class. Just be prepared to get ID’d.

* Truffled my a**! *
In this area of town the lunch time pickings are pretty slim. I popped into Mahony & Sons to grab a bite in the emptiness of culinary joy of the surrounding area.
It had been a long time since I was last here, and the menu has been updated. The Fontina Cheese and Truffled Crimini Mushroom Burger caught my eye and I figured I would give it a try. Truffled my a**! No hint of truffle anywhere, and I don’t think they even used that fake truffle oil at all! Whatever…

If they didn’t try to play the fancy schmancy write nice sounding culinary terms on the menu game I may have even given 3 stars considering the limited selection in this area. But with the creative application of terms on the menu it is firmly 2 stars. Meh!
