I finally had the opportunity to give this place a try. I honestly don’t have any ideas about their food and snack items, but the coffee and the atmosphere was most certainly pleasant(at least for students on campus). The Starbucks in the bookstore can get hectic sometimes so this seems to be a nice alternative if you want to study while having a cup of coffee. Since it was my first time there I will try to update my review as I visit more often. Recommended.

I surprisingly found a decent place for coffee and a quick lunch in UBC area. I love their Vietnamese latte, I prefer my drinks to be on the sweeter side so the added condensed milk is surprisingly pleasant for me. Their bacon breakfast sandwich is good and so is their Capicolo and Genoa Salami sandwich. Their pulled pork sandwich is just ok for me and I’m not that fond of their scones. The service is friendly but I found that the quality is not consistent when it’s really busy.

Went for a drink on a hot summer day. Got the frozen after eight mocha which was very refreshing. The design of the place is itself is very hipster-esque with lots of seating.

Solid 3.5 stars. Open concept, spacious, lots of students working on their laptops. They’ve got the main ground section, then a back area on a raised platform. Coffee’s good, didn’t partake in their food. Good location by the bus loop, beside Mahony & Sons. Offer catering as well.

The $ 8.00 sandwich I bought had brown, wilted lettuce and the cheese still had the wrapper on it. Staff gave me a coupon for one free drink when I addressed it very politely. Never again Boulevard.

In terms of study spaces on campus, The Boulevard is pretty good since there’s lots of seating, several plugs for dying electronics, and a decent variety of food for hungry from sandwiches to pastries to salads, brain-drained students. A nice touch is the rotating artwork they display around the café and which I understand is done free of commission. The service is dismal, none of the staff seems capable of cracking a smile — not even a half-assed one! — and music can be distracting sometimes, and the overall monotonous gray-ness of the place is quite depressing when I’m stressing over deadlines and exams. Of course they’ll be free wifi(they ARE right in the middle of UBC!), and facilities are generally kept quite clean, so yes, I’ll come here when I’m too lazy to walk over to Great Dane.

A nice coffee shop right on campus(next to the Shopper’s Drug Mart). I had the hot Vietnamese Latte which tasted fantastic and I’d highly recommend it. The shop was decently spacious, clean, and good for people-watching. The main area of improvement is that it didn’t feel like a student’s coffee shop. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly what was lacking — but for being a on-campus coffee shop, I would have expected maybe some couches or more outlets, or something that gives it a student-feel.

I went into the Boulevard coffee shop and received the worse customer experience of my life. I ordered a hot chocolate ½ sweet and it was as if they added more chocolate. I asked the girl if she could pour out half and add more milk. She went and had a two minute conversation with her boss simply because she didn’t want to fix the drink. I worked at a coffee shop for three years and would have never treated a customer that way.

I really like this place, despite how busy it always is. The coffee is really good and it’s one of the only americanos that I’ve enjoyed aside from ones I make myself. The staff isn’t the most inviting or helpful, but considering their volume and efficiency level I understand. I’ve been here twice and got an Americano both times, but I also tried the bacon egg sandwich and pulled pork sandwich the second time — I was thoroughly impressed with both, and you can tell they sell out quick. I arrived at 11am and grabbed the last pulled pork and 1 of 3 bacon eggs. My only complaint about them is that they weren’t heated the whole way through, so they had slightly cold centers. This was less of a problem for the pork than it was the egg, but still not enough to stop me from gobbling them. I also ordered a frozen aztec gold on my way out — blended chocolate drink with cinnamon, chili and some other spices. It was really great. I’m only at UBC for my midwife appointments which won’t continue for much longer. I do wish I had discovered this place sooner, and I understand why it seems to be a go-to spot for students.

The Boulevard Café has always been my go-to spot because it’s right next to my work in the David Strangway building. As a student on a budget, this may not be the cheapest place to eat but the quality is great. The reason I am giving it a 1 star review is because of its lack of ALLERGYWARNINGS. I am severely allergic to all nuts, so whenever I order something I ask if it has any nuts or any traces of nuts in it. My favourite sandwich there is the cranberry prosciutto sandwich. The first 3x I had it, I had no problems. The fourth time however, I brought it up to my work to eat it and my throat started to swell up. I quickly took a benedryl which stopped the slow swelling(luckily I didn’t have to inject myself with an epipen and be sent to the hospital though I had it ready in hand). The next day I went back to ask why that had happened and the kind young gentleman informed me that all the sandwiches were made in the same area. Possibly the first 3 times, they wiped down the board better and were more cautious but this time they were not. When I asked if there were any nuts or any traces the first few times, I was never told that. The cashiers merely opened their book of ingredients and looked down the list and said nope no nuts. I did not see any warnings that they were processed in the same area. And if there were warnings, they were not prominent and weren’t placed near the food. I just think they need to be a little more careful

I have tried a couple of things so far. A blue cheese bacon scone is the best! A bit overpriced thou. $ 3−4ish for a single scone. As many people mentioned, their coffee is good and the pastry is okay. Some of their coffee has a weird taste depends on the acidity of coffee bean they used.

If there were zero stars, that’s what I would give the Boulevard Coffee Company. I went in a couple weeks ago and got a croissant for breakfast. It tasted stale, so went back after my class for a refund. The guy at the counter seemed nice, offered me a free coffee, but I told him I’d like my money back. The assistant manager Jennifer came out to «help» me. She was defensive, completely unsympathetic and totally unhelpful. To make a long story short, she gave me the WORST customer service experience I’ve ever had. I asked for the manager’s contact and she gave me the run around about him«just paying the bills» and that she pretty much ran the place(dear God…) I told her I would send her an email, and that I wanted it passed on to the owner/manager, whoever was above her. That was two weeks ago. I have not yet received a response, not even from her to say she received my email. I’ve told my friends at UBC about this experience and am now telling Unilocal. Thanks for this experience Jennifer, you’ve saved me the trouble of ever again considering your place of work as a place to get coffee or food.

It just succeeds in every category! –quality coffee –quality baked goods and sandwiches –local business that is sensitive to it’s neighborhood(really caters to both residents, UBC faculty and students) –features artists –hosts open mic nights –and is a really great study AND meeting spot

I stopped in after doing some research at UBC. This little hide away café is a great change to the usual Monday mornings Starbucks pick me up. The Papa New Guinea norga landed me a good 2 hour coffee buzz! This café is larger then most coffee shops, I’m assuming to cater to the mass amount of students that attend UBC. I walked straight to the counter, it took me all but 5 seconds to decide on the new guinea, however the barista was busy chatting up the cashier, it was all very confusing to me, because I just needed my coffee so I could get my coffee buzz on. I’ll be back again next week. I’m trying very hard not to compare this to Starbucks, but I just can’t help it!

Food isn’t that great and the price is a RIP. Usually too crowded to make for a nice spot. Either people are ‘studying’ so you feel rude having a conversation with a friend in close-quarters, or you can’t find a place to study. Only time in my life I threw a brownie in the trash. Shockingly bad for something which looks like a boutique.

Love the décor, love the food. Sadly I don’t know the names of any of the items as I tried them all at a private event but I’d say the sandwiches and sliced loaves rival any downtown /kits /yuppie-neighbourhood-of choice coffee shop. There was a loaf with plenty of seeds and some raspberries, I think, that was splendid. Gasp I haven’t tried the coffee and can’t comment on that.

Nice space for coffee. It’s open with a good amount of space. Obviously, it’s full of UBC students. I like the open space, the high ceiling and the roaster displayed up front. I was here on a weekend, so it wasn’t too busy. I can see it getting a bit hectic during the school session in between classes. Had the coffee of the day the Papau New Guinea Enorga. It was alright. Very slight bit of acidity, and relatively smooth. No rough edges. I still prefer a lower elevation coffee — not as much acidity

I thought I review this place already but maybe I am wrong. I come here before my night class and grab a large latte to go. But I have sat down as well. The price is good, especially if you order a large size. It was $ 3.75? I am guessing here… The foam has nice thickness to it, and the coffee is not too strong nor weak, just the right roast. I have to say I have tasted better coffee elsewhere though. The choice of food is not very extensive and never appealed to me in both the price and the appetite. The baristas definitely have some attitude going on like the previous post. It is generally, «I am too cool for you.» But in all fairness, the girl who took my order was chatty and friendly. I will come here again on the way to class.
