This place is great, but needs some work. We came here for my husband’s company’s Christmas party. They were extremely attentive to our medium sized group of 16, checking in constantly, refilling water, bringing more drinks. They even turned the music down when we started doing toasts, and asked if we had a music preference that they could help us out with. But, the food was a little bland(with the exception of appetizers we tried). It’s a neat little gastropub that doesn’t conform to one flavor, one type of cuisine. For example, the appetizers ranged from duck wings with awesome crispy, seasoned skin, to Asian-inspired sauteed prawns. But for the entrees… they could have been better. My husband had the ground lamb, a friend next to me had salmon, and I had braised duck. The menu items sounded to-die for, but they just didn’t have great flavor, and it came out not that warm. Also, it seemed like every single dish came with the same steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. That was a little weird. Furthermore, my vegetables were barely cooked at all. The Brussels sprouts on my plate were so hard I couldn’t get them on my fork, much less get them down my throat. The desserts, though, were quite good. We had one of each for the table, which included some really good cheesecake, and the server threw in some ice cream for free. Nice touch! I’d suggest this place for drinks any time — the cocktails are amazing, and well priced, plus the staff are super friendly. Maybe if the menu gets polished a little bit, I’d come back and even be a regular.

Had a pretty disastrous takeout experience here. Short version of the story: Called in, placed order, they said 15 – 20 minutes. Got there in 15m. Food wasn’t ready until 45+ minutes after we placed the call. They were extremely nice and apologetic, but at the same time the place wasn’t super crowded, so it’s hard to understand how they miscalculated so badly. Took the food home, one dish was great, one was inedible. The burger we ordered wasn’t cooked on one side. I’m not saying it was rare, I’m saying it was soft and brown on one side, pure mush. We called them to express our frustration, they said«what can we do to make it better?» I said they could reverse the charge on my credit card, they said ok. That never happened, and this was many weeks ago. Sorry guys, you were friendly but I just can’t endorse you for takeout. I imagine dine-in must be much better?

Summary: very understaffed, calm and cozy ambience with average food. More: We came for my friend’s birthday dinner(there were 8 of us), and the first dish came 30 minutes after we put in our order. The other dishes took longer. They ran out of(all) lager after my friend has his first glass. The restaurant wasn’t busy; there was only another table of 8 and a table of 2, but there were only 2 servers, a bartender and 1 chef in this Yaletown restaurant. They were also disorganized and didn’t provide usual things like a spoon, pepper and Parmesan for the pasta dishes. Food: I enjoyed the creamy seafood pasta – rich sauce with a good amount of fish, mussels and shrimp. The spaghetti and meatballs was mediocre. The bacon covered scallop was a heavy but pretty tasty appy. I want to mention that despite the extremely slow service, our server was trying really hard and he was friendly, and he gave my friend a slice of cheesecake on the house.

Just happened to stumble into this place. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 pasta dishes and the duck wings. The wings are incredible, never had anything like them before. The pasta was delicious and authentic. No sign of premade ingredients. The meatballs in my spaghetti where fresh, and my girlfriends food was well seasoned. The beer selection was good too. Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was smooth, dark, and quiet. Loved it. Good area of town too.

Did they change management and chef? I’ve been here 5 months ago and I can’t complain of the food, presentation and price. When I first visited all appies were $ 6. Today only select appies are included in happy hour and the price went up to $ 6.95. I don’t mind the price increase as long as the quality hasn’t changed. Sad to say the quality and presentation went all the way down. It’s like a Chinese restaurant trying to be cool. Who sees tomatoes as garnishes in pub food?! Geez! And how come the bone marrow is not ready at 4.30 pm when happy hour is supposed to start at 3.00 pm? I was willing to pay full price for this appie but it was not«ready». We have to wait for an hour. So as the duck wings. How can they not be ready?! The scallop and bacon looks and tastes like store bought. Its very chewy. The calamari not fresh. I was really disappointed.

I had the marrow and duck wings with salt and pepper. Coolest menu items I’ve ever tried! Enjoyed a $ 5 for 5 ounce wine deal that went really well with our meal. I tried some of my dates salmon too, I hate salmon but loved this. Im definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu. We also had the place to ourselves on a Tuesday night. Really personal and great service.

A friend recommended the restaurant. It didn’t live up to the recommendation. The food was bland which was surprising for ginger beef and my husband’s curried brisket(it was curry-less). It appeared to be the server’s first job so I will give her a break. $ 100 for three of us was money poorly spent.

Unilocal sounded good so we tried it. Nice to sit outside but that’s where the positive ended. Food arrived in an awkward sequence of a starter salad 10 mins before another guest’s starter soup with two of three entrees three minutes after that. To say the plates with bland sides of rice were mediocre would be too generous. Take a pass and visit any of the dozens of excellent competitors nearby.

So maybe they get 2.5 stars. They were out of 1) crab cakes 2) duck wings 3) some marrow dish. It’s called Malt and Marrow, have your menu stocked please! Yes, I did go after a long weekend, but still I believe that restaurants have they list on their menu in stock. Apparently this restaurant opened three months ago so it’s new and the chef is apparently famous in Kelowna. We sat on the patio– so many fruit flies and a pesky bee kept bugging us. I won’t rush back here anytime soon. I felt bad for my friends from out of town(HK, SF).

3.5 stars Not bad. Not bad at all. A very cool and casual gastropub in Yaletown. Duck wings… tasty. But I pretty much like anything duck. I also had the ribs as my main and they were seasoned and marinaded perfectly, with a side of rosti… and who doesn’t like rosti?!

Quaint spot on the south side of hamilton street. M&M really brings more vibrancy to this block along with Rodney’s Oyster Bar. I had the duck wings. They were delicious and for $ 7 you get a good filling. I also had their signature dish, the marrow, which was equally as satisfying. They had a good selection of craft beer and had a wide range of cocktails and liquors you could order. Staff was also very friendly and accommodating. I have recommended it to all of my peers and I would definitely return again soon!

Great food, awesome service! We went there for happy hours and the $ 5 wine is a high quality wine(Gray Monk Pinot Grigio) and generous portion. Food wise we ordered mussels, bone marrow and calamari. They are all amazing. However, the duck wings is a must try! Good flavour, crispy yet juicy! Will come back for sure!

Absolutely brilliant experience. Lovely lounge small and intimate. Gives you the feel you are actually in a social environment. Great staff and the food like seriously best in Vancouver especially their teriyaki wings and their amazing beef burger. Simply worth every penny

This place is going to be a new favorite of mine. They made it into my top 3 places to eat when I’m in Vancouver! Drinks: Tried the marrow, ballantines bash, stone fruit sour, and boulevardier. Loved the marrow and the boulevardier, these were perfect! The stone fruit sour was amazingly sour, made the classic way with egg white. The Ballantine, wasn’t sure about the ingredients together but turned out to be quite tasty. Food: Bar appy– fresh made potato sticks with the lightest salt and vinegar flavor, tasty and so easy to eat it all Shareable marrow($ 15) — flavorful but a bit more than 2 of us could finish. Would like the breadstick to be a bit more substantial to balance the marrow. Shareable pacific octopus sauté($ 14) — OMG! this was good!!! It can be your meal. Cooked perfectly and is deliciously flavorful and so many great textures! You must try this! I will be back for this often! Beef cheek burger($ 18) — not actually a burger patty, lots of flavor and texture but it seems to be missing a little something to tie it together/balance it out. Maybe it just needs their pickled veggies. It’s just heavy on the savory/bacon/smoked side of flavors. Dessert — truffled cinnamon bun($ 10) — It was so good we forgot to take a photo. It’s small for the price but the flavor extravaganza you experience when you eat it is a must try! Service: they’ve only been open a month so it seems they are still trying to get their groove together. The hostess was not very outgoing or cheerful. The bartender was our waitress as well, she was great and gave excellent advice. The manager? or whoever he was should be careful about lecturing his staff in front of customers. All that said, the wait time for orders wasn’t bad at all and by the time we left they all seemed to be getting along. Ambience: good space, several different seating options; bar, booths, tables, outdoor seating with heat lamps. Couple tvs up in the corners. There’s enough space here you don’t feel trapped or packed in like some of the other places around I really want to give them 5 stars but I think they still have a couple kinks to work out still. So they have a 4.5 in my book. They will easily become a 5 star place if they keep heading in their current trajectory.

Excellent new restaurant! We stopped by for some cocktails and appetizers. Everything was amazing! We had the bone marrow and giant pretzel. It was my first time having bone marrow and I was a bit worried trying it, but it was fantastic! The cocktail drinks were also very unique and tasty. Service was beyond exceptional as the waiter spent so much time with us discussing the drink and food options. He also gave us some tips of places to check out on our trip to Whistler. A great place for dinner and drinks!
