Had the rattatouie and it tasted great… but it was barely warm. Didn’t bother saying anything because it took forever to get!

DON’T COMEHERE! This has got to be the worst place I’ve been to in Vancouver so far. And fucking expensive too! I should have taken my cue by the fact that there were only ONE other group of people in there, a mother and her adult son. The place is dimly lit at 8:30pm. I know why which I will explain later. The menu is written on a giant chalk board above the chef station. The only proper menu was for drinks. I ordered the escargot($ 12) and the filet mignon($ 27). The waitress suggested that I add sauted mushrooms($ 4). The escargot came on a plate dispersed in a circular pattern. They were dark and non-descript looking… I might have mistaken them for overcooked mushroom caps. They were on top of a green pesto looking ‘sauce’ that made them appear as if someone gutted them and smeared their guts into a ritual ring. The center of the dish was a pastry puff thingy with a turd snail proclaiming it was king of the world. My escargot experiences always had garlic, butter and some sort of cheese. Even the WORST ones up to this point had garlic and butter. But nope, not these. They were grossly textured as if they were from a can and the sauce had no flavor. The pastry puff thing was dry and old, maybe made a week ago, frozen and thawed to order. Seriously, if they had gone to a supermarket and bought a pillbury pastry dough, it would have been tastier. Disappointment #1 out of the way. Now onto #2. The steak came covered with sauted mushrooms in some kind of wine reduction sauce. There was a side of mash potatoes. Let’s start with the mash. It was clearly made from some instant mix as it had no texture, no flavor and sucked giant ass. Seriously, microwaving a potato, scooping the inside onto a plate with some butter would have been 1000x better. Even paper mâché has better texture and flavor! The steak itself was quality steak. It literally peels away with my fork and didn’t need a knife at all. I’ve only had steak that tender at high end places(and $ 60ish). So for that I was impressed. It was also pretty rare which is my favorite. But oh my fucking god did it taste like shit. Ok, maybe shit is too harsh but it was not good. It was under seasoned and the only saving grace was the decent sauce around it. Oh, and the sauted mushrooms??? It was like eating the escargot but not as chewy. The Salisbury steak frozen TV dinners would have been a better choice. The reason they keep this place dark is so you can’t really see how bad the food is until it’s too late. I don’t want to be racist but since I’m Asian myself, I figure I might be able to get away with it. This is a FRENCH restaurant. Everyone on staff from server to cook were Asian. For fucks sake, if you’re not going to be French please learn French cuisine by actually studying it. Or else make this a Chinese restaurant. I know chefs can cross over. I’ve seen very good Mexican sushi chefs. I’ve seen amazing Black chefs in Chinese places. But this place had nothing like that. Save yourself and do NOT come here. Let Darwinism do it’s job and have it replaced by something much better. PS. I had to order a sushi roll down the street afterwards to extinguish my disappointment.

I came here to redeem a voucher for the«Raclette for two with poached potato, grilled vegetables, gherkin, and baguette» that I had purchased from SocialShopper. As I didn’t have time to call in a reservation, I made one for October 4 on September 29 using OpenTable. I made a note on the reservation stating that I had a Social Shopper voucher for the raclette dinner. When we arrived for our reservation, our server seated us but informed us that we weren’t eligible for OpenTable points as we were using a voucher. I would have much preferred that they had called me to let me know as I had made my reservation 5 days in advance, rather than accept the reservation, seat us, and then cancel the OpenTable reservation. Our server was good; he made some helpful suggestions to complement the raclette. In addition to the raclette dish, we ordered the Chef’s Charcuterie to accompany it, and the Caché S’more for dessert. He also did a good job of upselling the cocktails. The food itself was nicely presented and delicious. I loved the raclette and the pickled vegetables. However, portions are on the small side. If we hadn’t ordered the Chef’s Charcuterie(which comes with bread) we wouldn’t have had enough bread for the raclette. The Caché S’more was rich and chocolatey and delicious. If the marshmallow portion had been browned a little it would have been perfect. Given the portions, the food, while high in quality, is a little on the pricey side. I’m not absolutely sure if I would return without another voucher or special unless it was for a special occasion.

Came with a group of 4 for brunch. Pleasantly surprised by how good our entrees were. However, I ordered a croissant to start, which was fully burnt on the bottom, which made the rest taste burnt throughout. When I pointed it out to the server, it was replaced, however I was made to feel a little guilty about it… Was I just supposed to eat the burnt croissant? I had the croque madame, which was delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well(another croque madame and the bennys). Shared a waffle at the end of our meal, probably wouldn’t order one again. Giving it 3 stars based on the burnt croissant and related service

I’ve had brunch and dinner here, and it’s really just . Brunch it was okay. I like that they don’t splatter everything in oil and grease, and it has a nice healthy and delicious snag to it. I would compare it to Provence Marinaside in that regards(their eggs are goooood). Taste wise, it’s pretty much your regular brunch stuff. For dinner, we decided to order a few things from the appies and entrees, so I’ll share my findings: — I’m a big fan of foie gras, and order it at every place that serves it. This place’s foie gras feels like they blended a lot of other stuff in it, and I really couldn’t get much of the creaminess or taste that foie gras should give. It was at around $ 15 – 18, so I really was expecting something more — We ordered the mussels. They were good. Sauce is good, and we ordered two rounds of bread to dip in the soup. — Entrée I had the duck leg thing in mandarin and something sauce, and one of my friends tried their other duck breast thing as well. We both agreed it was bland, and, «okay.» They look great, it’s just the flavor of them are lacking for some reason. — Dessert… my favorite part, but I’m having trouble recalling what it is. That’s not good. Oh yeah, we order 2 desserts. One was a chocolate thing(very good), and the other was a mousse thing that comes with two swans(I’ll upload the pictures later). The swan looks gorgeous, but that’s really all there is to it. Doesn’t taste great, u don’t know what to do with it. We ended up leaving it half-unfinished(and we saved room just for desserts too!) Can’t say I was impressed, which is unfortunate. I was really excited to have a French bistro in Yaletown.

Had brunch here once, and will not do so ever again. As you entered, you can tell them skim on the interiors. It is totally unexpected for such a location, heart of Yaletown. The layout of the tables were cramped, and I feel like I am dining with both tables to my left and right. At least the staff was friendly, although quite messy dressed. I started by ordering a mint infused ice tea, which was very small, probably half a can of coke. The taste wasn’t that great either. You wouldn’t have expected mint infused would be a piece of mint leaf on top of your ice tea would you? Then I proceeded to try my soup, which was cold. The brunch dish, which was a smoked salmon baguette took the prize. Immediately I knew something was off just by looking at it. What is wrong? Well, an 8 year old probably could make this. It was literally a baguette cut in half with smoked salmon, capers and, onions lay on top. in addition to looking dull and flat, it tasted like cardboard. The bread is too tough, and the bread is so thick it renders the salmon tasteless — that is if I could even bite a piece of bread off. A knife would not help either since they did not have steak knives. I gave up after 3 attempts of ripping the bread as I do not understand why I have to struggle so hard for a meal. My friend’s eggs Benedict meal seem average at best, and he did not finish it either. I was too piss off to even try a bite of his dish from my experience. All I can say is this looks like a poor Hong Kong style café in Richmond wrapped in an English name at a Yaletown location. Do not be fooled. You have been warned.

Carefully prepared food with attention to detail. There is always a description of the food once served(apart from the final course for some reason) so that you can appreciate what you’re eating before you even taste it! The food is pricey, even by Vancouver standards. Portion sizes are small(I thought we got over this in the early 2000s) but, all-in-all, an enjoyable experience. I’ve dined in quite a few Parisian bistros(One of the advantages of living an hour’s plane ride away from Paris); this place doesn’t quite hit the mark in that respect but is a good Canadian attempt. The service was warm and friendly, and everyone was welcoming.

The food here is better than I expected. Each dish is carefully plated. I’m quite impressed with my miso salmon. Expected it to be dry like most of the otner places but it turned out to be very tasty and not over cooked or dry. Didn’t think Japanese mixed Italian would work, but the seaweed risotto with miso sauce, works actually perfectly together. The desserts are quite creative, like the cotton candy tree with coco and mango mousse. The rich coco with a hint of mango citric, not bad at all. The restraurant is nicely and thoughtfully decorated. The portion is a little small in my opinion. The service was just okay, the waitress I had wasn’t as experienced as others in the yale town area and the hostess was not very professional either. That’s why I deducted 1 point. But the food was out of my expectation. Worth a try.

My friend bought a Groupon for 4 and invited us to Cache Bistro for dinner. We were arrived on time upon our reservation(via open table) and I checked in at Unilocal. It’s small and cozy restaurant. We got seated in red booth by the window side. My gal friend presented the Groupon to the waitress before we ordered and I showed her 50% off mussels for Unilocal checked-in. The waitress brought over the manager to our table and she told us the groupon, open table reservation point and 50% off mussels Unilocal offered cannot be used together. What a cheap Chinese? Try to get all kind of offers? Don’t get it wrong pls! Fine… no need to show us your attitude. We ordered all the dishes from the menu: Appetizers Escargot — Nice puff pastry presented but the escargots were a bit cold when it served. Pan seared Foie gras — it come with blueberry compote and field green salad, the foie gras was a bit bland and dry. Scallop Crudo Salad — Stacked scallops on avocado and tomato, it looked nice and taste fresh. Steamed Mussels — Such small size of mussels and add $ 4 for pomme fries, absolutely not worth for $ 20! Main entrees Lamb rack — Roasted lamb rack, taste a bit gamey. 8oz 30-day dry aged New York steak — So disappointing! Dry and chewy! Duck breast — It tasted good but like a cold dish. Seared Scallops — 3 jumbo scallops were fresh and tasty. Personally, I don’t think the simple dish can go wrong! Desserts Dark Chocolate Mousse Tree — it looked like a small plant such a cute presentation. Cotton candy and 2 leafs on top of chocolate mousse. Profiteroles de l’amour — Soft Italian cream cheese filled in Swans shapes puffs with strawberry sauce. Such a creative and lovely dessert. Overall, the food and service was not impressed, probably not worth to return.

We bought the Social Shopper deal and was looking forward to trying out their brunch menu. DISAPPOINTED! We ordered Americano, Salmon Crêpe, Croque Madame with Cream of Mushroom Soup and Belgium Waffle with Rum Caramel. — Americano: bland without any crema — Salmon Crêpe: not enough dill and the melted gruyère tasted like pastic — Croque Madame: average, probably the only good thing we had — Cream of Mushroom Soup: nice mushroom taste but really lack of salt — Belgium Waffle: the worst Belgium waffle we had. It reminds us of Eggo — Rum Caramel: good rum taste but the consistency is a bit too thick. We will never go back and glad that we didn’t pay full price for it.

~ Brunch Review ~ Cache is situated in the far east end of Yaletown on Hamilton Street, two doors down from The Society. Location-wise it is rather isolated from the other Yaletown restaurants like the Flying Pig, Blue Water and Section 3 so definitely less foot traffic then normal. It’s a rather new restaurant run by a husband and wife team. The kitchen opened into the dining room. The decoration was very interesting — dark red walls, random black frames and some old school Chinese pictures. It’s atmosphere was cross between the atmospheres at Sweet Revenge and The Society. I initially wanted to order the Quiche Lorraine but was told they had sold out for the day(at around 12:30pm) so I settled for the Cured Salmon Crêpe with a side salad. The boy ordered the Croque Madam with the soup du jour(Cream of mushroom). We started off with a waffle with orange crème fresh. It was like having marmalade on a cold-ish waffle. I’ve had far better waffles at Leonidas so Cache’s waffles really are nothing to write home about. My crêpe was small. Two index finger length salmon crepes of about ¾ inch thick. Every bite was full of salmon flakes. Very rich, especially with the piece of melted cheese on top. I however found the crêpe a tad too salty and the vinaigrette in the salad not mixed thoroughly enough. The Boy’s Croque Madam and Cream of Mushroom soup was amazing! The soup was fresh. I stole a few bites and I savoured every mushroom filled bite. The Boy and I were subtly fighting for the last spoonful of soup. The Croque Madam is a grilled cheese sandwich. The bread was toasty and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The ham and cheese was perfectly married to each other and made a potentially ordinary grilled cheese a pretty extraordinary one. A must order. The service was very attentive. The waitress was friendly. Our waters were refilled every few minutes. I had a clear view of the chefs and owner — all who seemed to love what they do. All in all. Croque Madam with soup du jour is a must try, and the salmon crêpe, not so much.

This was my second time here and I didn’t find it as stunning as the last time. Service was sub par. Food took too long to come out and when it did it was cold. Sat for 30 mins before we were given a glass if water. Found out later that they were short staff and were training a new server. But no excuses, it’s Father’s Day. The manager should have planned better. I will give Cache one more try. Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

Caché Bistro & Lounge is a French fusion restaurant located in Yaletown with cute ambiance carried forward from the previous Thai restaurant. Red booth seats, big baroque gold décor fills the room. We came here one evening after a birthday for an extended gathering. The menu is primarily French /Asian fusion and focuses on tapas style at moderate prices. But nothing spectacular that lures me to return.
Being the Nancy that I am, how can I not order the Fancy Nancy. I guess raspberry vodka, Chamboard, cranberry, pineapple and lime is what I consists of. Above all, it’s a pretty tasty drink. It was happy hour /late night and the lounge menu was on promo at 2 for 1. Pork Belly with a sweet honey glaze. A modern take on something that tasted a lot like Chinese Roasted Pork. Dave was still hungry after dinner and had to order a burger. Complete with the works and even a lightly battered pickle — a nice crunchy take and went well with the saucy patty. Calamari: Five spice, chickpea flour, sake soy glaze. I enjoyed the sharp flavors but found it slightly too salty. Baked Blueberry Pie: Smothered inside a flaky brioche bun. The warm center was filling and sweet. Chocolate Mousse Cake: A creamy rich sinfully indulgence that was clearly much better than the picture I took.

Came here with my best friend last friday to give this place a try cause i bought the social shopper voucher. The reason to why i purchased the voucher was because my bf’s boss is the co-owner of this place so i thought i would be worth my money to give this place a try. I ordered a Benedict and my best friend ordered a pull pork sandwich. we shared a dessert because it was included in the voucher. It was alright. Wasn’t too outstanding to me. I don’t have much to say about this place. It didn’t’ wow me or made me feel like i wanted to leave. The decorations were alright. They had a TV at the corner but it wasn’t turned on. I assume it was cause they don’t turn it on during the day. The place isn’t big but there was kinda only one waiter running around and one host who didn’t really do much. I would suggest them to hire another waiter or waitress during lunch hour as it did pick up by the time we left at around 12ish. For the same reason to why our dessert and bill came like 15 mins after asking for it. I don’t know if I’ll return to this place cause there wasn’t anything special about it.

Came here for girl’s night out. The food was decent but not spectacular, but our service was excellent. We were having trouble deciding on drinks and food, so we asked our server for her recommendations. She gave us very frank answers, saying which drinks were popular and which ones she personally liked or didn’t like. For food, she did the same: for example, regarding the lobster bisque — «Some people absolutely love it, some people absolutely hate it.» I personally did not like it. VERY strong lobster taste, and I normally love lobster. The roti with peanut satay infused butter was disappointing. It tasted like the frozen pancakes you can buy at T&T, and the butter was basically peanut. butter… I agree with the server that the baked brie and blueberry pocket is a great deal as you’re getting a whole round of brie, but it doesn’t make sense that it comes with so little bread to eat with it. And additional bread is $ 1 extra. The ambiance and décor is very upscale and intimate, but it’s far from pretentious here. They just need to match the quality of the food to the atmosphere.

We waited a long time for everything to arrive. This normally doesn’t bother me at all, but we did have guests from out of town, and the long wait times were very noticeable. The food itself was not at the caliber that it was when this bistro first opened. As is so typical in this city, a fascinating and delicious menu was replaced with something just barely above mediocre. I ordered something called Wagyu, and I was happy to pay Wagyu prices, but what I received was not Wagyu, or if it was Wagyu, something went horribly wrong in the preparation. It was a dry, characterless piece of meat. The grapefruit margarita was very nice, as was the Yaletown patio dining, but those were the only memorable elements of this $ 200 evening. I hesitatingly award 3 stars.

Nice patio, even with white table linens. Ordered the baby back ribs, very tender, great sauce. Came w/cornbread shaped like round balls. ahem. Also the side dish of corn salad, w/salt and pepper, also tasty. They have a 3 set course menu for $ 35 which is good for another 2 weeks, should go back for that, that seemed like a hot seller judging from the rest of the ppl last nite.

Oh why did I bother coming here… It’s fine, there’s nothing terribly wrong with it. It is a typical yaletown resto with rather expensive-looking décor, those big wall mirrors are pretty cool. We had the lunch special that my company gets. Unfortunately, we had a large group, and I think it took about 35 minutes or more to get the plates out to us. Then we had about the smallest portions of pasta I’ve ever had in Vancouver. No wonder it was a company special. sigh. Calling it tapas-sized would be generous. I had the pesto meatball linguine. The meatballs were delicious. They have a very good recipe for meatballs here. I enjoyed the flavor. The portion size was just small, but I think it was because of the cheap company special. I’ll probably never come back here again. It’s funny how expensive the restaurants and condos are in Yaletown, but how relatively few of the residents/workers can actually afford to eat in this neighborhood.

Ange and I hit up the old Charm Modern Thai location in Yaletown, to preview the new French bistro there. I was amused by the fully Chinese management and chef staff running this authentic French cuisine neighbourhood eatery with an Asian twist. To start, we spooned up a delicious foie gras crème brûlée with flying fish caviar. Probably my favourite was the black tea smoked duck breast salad(very top). I gobbled up the bacon wrapped semi de-boned quail, stuffed with marinated dried cranberries. In addition, we enjoyed special wine pairings with each dish. We couldn’t drink the wines fast enough before each dish. The portobello cap mushroom stuffed with spinach and cream cheese was quite tasty and decadent. It certainly made the mushroom(which I usually hate) very flavourful. For dessert, pavlova with fresh strawberries and hibiscus cream. I was underwhelmed a kind of unimpressed with the hard, crusty cookie like treat. Executive chef Alex Mok from the underground supper club world has started an interesting venture with his traditional French bisto faire mixed with season Asian influences.
