There are a few sushi places in our neighbourhood including Mazuya. Out of all of them Mazuya is hands down the best! Total Mom & Pop shop, which we love. We order the same thing every friday: Gyoza Salmon Sashimi Real Crab California Roll Dynamite Salmon Tempura Roll The food is always fresh. The staff are super friendly. If you go, you MUST order the Salmon Tempura Roll! It’s hands down my all-time favourite roll! Now, get off your butt and go get some sushi.

great sushi. Great seaweed salad and dynamite roll. I guess you have to order a special roll to get it covered in tobiko ;)

Maki bento box: salmon roll, gyoza, house salad and chicken teriyaki. The rice was the perfect consistency although the gyoza looked like they might have been reheated and served due to their watered consistency. The chicken teriyaki was divine-wished there was more than the four narrow pieces however careful sauce spreading from just the tops of the chicken fooled my palate into thinking there was more chicken amongst the pile of rice. I was surprised with a miso with this order-a perfect goldilock portion(not too cold, hot or salty). This place had one other table when I came in by myself, but shortly thereafter two different takeout orders came for pickup and another table of two came in. Poor girl was rushed off her feet. They were out of green tea icecream(tonight is a true splurge-it’s been months since sushi anywhere) — so I ordered mango. Yum. Sunshine on a plate. Unfortunately I had to keep asking for water and tea refills more than she could note herself. Now time to finish today’s vitamins with the final glass of water.

This place is in my neighborhood and is my go to for quick sushi. I’m never disappointed with the food and they are always friendly when I go to pick up my food. Another plus is that you can bring in your own containers when you order to go. You just have to let them know when you order. I’m all for less waste.

Good place to grab a quick and filling lunch just outside of downtown a bit. Been here many times for lunch to dine in or for takeout. The place isn’t all too big so bringing a whole gang of office workers isn’t that practical. The ambiance is very plain, nothing special and the service is nice when you get to know the people and frequent it often. There’s a large variety of dishes and dishes to choose from. What I like about Mazuya is how much care and love they put into their food, you can really taste the difference. Some rolls are presented in floral like manner and everything is clean and very easy to eat. Try the house roll as well as the mango roll, they are very good — the mango roll has a nice sweetness to it which is great with a nice dip of wasabi soy sauce. The Burrard roll is also very special, a good thing to try out if you like something a little more atypical from the regular maki rolls. Their appetizers are good if you feel like spoiling yourself a bit, the spinach gomae is plentiful and is perfectly made with the dressing very delicate with a strong sesame seed smell. Most people will try the gyoza, I don’t think they are that great since they don’t seem all too fresh. Mazuya is a good place to try out if you are in the area as they have good food, it’s hard being just another sushi place in Vancouver since there are so many. You can never run out of options!

We were in a hurry and they were quick! Good selection of special(more interesting) rolls. Décor/ambience was average.

Satisfactory food. Service was not bad. Overall it was mediocre through and through(and sometimes that ain’t a bad thing).

I love this sushi restaurant. It’s one of the better ones I’ve come across in Vancouver. They have some really unique rolls, great sashimi. My only complaint is that they are really small, so if you go during peak times(lunch hour for example) you might not get a table for awhile. But absolutely worth the wait if you go!

Good food choices and taste. Has some Unique sushi creations but customer service from the cashier is a pain! I called to have an advance order at 11:27am then she immediately said«call back at 11:30am» WOW! She obviously didn’t want any business. Aparently, my co-worker also experience this, tsk tsk tsk!

Can’t speak for dining in at Mazuya as I only ever got take-out or delivery from here which was delicious, fresh & tasty sushi every single time. Loved: the house organic salad with mango, the Chef’s signature rolls, namely the Burrard Roll, the Temptation & Dynamite deluxe rolls are each a feast. Also the sashimi & more traditional maki on the menu too. Prices inexpensive for the quality you receive.

Love the Mazuya roll and passion roll. Great local neighbourhood sushi place that delivers. The restaurant is quite small, but is generally accessible. The hall to the bathrooms may be too narrow for some wheelchair users…

I’ve come here a handful of times, and the food has been very tasty. The service, however, has not impressed me. I stopped in for lunch with a friend, and it started out fine; we got tea and menus, and the server was prompt with taking our order. My friend wanted rolls made with brown rice(availability was shown in the menu and on the wall), but when it was requested, the server replied with a curt«We don’t have that». No explanation or apology. Whatever; they were probably just out of it for the day. For some reason, they brought out my food very quickly, but took their time bringing my friend’s food out. I finished my miso soup and a good portion of my meal before he got to eat(he’s a fast eater or I would have waited for his to come ;)). After we were both done, we waited a good 10 minutes for the rest of his meal before he decided he didn’t need it and we left(after paying, of course). Not a horrible experience by a long shot, but there are many restaurants nearby that aren’t as hit-or-miss. I have also heard stories about food being still frozen and the server not caring, and other situations I would rather not have to deal with.

Meh. That’s all I can say about Mazuya. The service was friendly, but slow — took about ten minutes after we closed our menu before anyone took our order… and there was nobody else in the restaurant! Maybe that should have been a tip-off. The place was empty on a Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The gomae was slimey and barely had any peanut sauce on it. Tasted as if the spinach had just thawed. Speaking of inappropriately thawed things, it was very obvious that the tuna(used in the tuna sushi) had just been thawed as well, because it was quite cold and, um, a little frozen in the middle! I also found the texture to be a bit slimey with a peculiar aftertaste. On the bright side, they do have a brown rice option and they did an excellent job with it. Making rice for sushi is something of an art so making it with brown rice must be an extra level of artistry. The banana tempura was also good. Nothing to write home about, but a nice little post-dinner treat. Won’t be going back.

Most sushi to me is kind of plain tasting. Here they have a full page of «chef’s special» rolls that all looked amazing. I had the vegas roll which was unagi tempura on top of another roll… YUM And the guyoza which didn’t have tough skin(don’t like guyoza that does) that I really enjoyed too. (The pictures supplied by Greg really show the place food off well…)

I walked by Mazuya a couple of years ago and have been coming/ordering out from here regularly… almost too much. My fiancé and I have always found Mazuya’s sushi to be fresh and consisent in taste and presentation, unlike many sushi places in Vancouver. As well, the service is always warm and friendly. My gold standard for judging sushi places is the California roll, and Mazuya’s is very good! They can make it with imitation crab or real crab. They also have some more interesting rolls — my absolute favorite is the Burrard roll which is a combination of a dynamite roll and a spicy tuna roll… yummy. Sometimes when I feel lazy and don’t want to cook, I will order $ 30 worth of sushi to eat, just by myself. That’s how much I love Mazuya’s!!!

Mazuya Sushi looks like any number of «Mom and Pop» sushi places scattered around town, but I was in the nighbourhood and in the mood for sushi(which I frequently am), so I decided to give it a shot. I should have known that this places was going to be different when the tea was delivered to my table almost before I had settled into my chair. On the wall is an impressive display of notes from patrons, talking about why they love the place. But when my food came, I KNEW that this place is different: Mazuya is not the most expensive sushi place I have been to(nor the cheapest), but I can’t remember the last time I was in a sushi place which took as much care with presentation. The Mazuya roll(which I ordered out of curiousity) arrived, arranged on its plate like a work of art.(And yes, it was tasty, too, and considerably more original than the«house special» rolls you see in most places.) I don’t often hang around this neighbourhood, but the next time I’m around there, I know where I’m going to be eating.
