I had wanted to try this place for quite sometime So, one day. had a crazing for a burger. or something meaty Decided to try this place out Ordered the porchetta, with a side of chips The sandwich was above average, tasty However, the chips were pretty greasy. think kettle chips left in the fryer Service was good, and pretty fast When I have a craving for something meaty, I might be back. but will pass on the chips

The best sandwiches in the city. Try the prime rib you won’t regret it. Soups are amazing and the chips are baked right in store.

We stopped here because we saw that earlier in the week they were serving French onion soup, a favourite of mine that is no longer a bar staple in Vancouver. Unfortunately they were serving something else today as the French onion was their daily special at another time. We ordered the beef dip and the porcetta sandwich. The beef dip was really delicious! An excellent price for 5 Oz of well cooked meat, better than most I’ve tried. With just the sandwich my boyfriend went from starving to completely full, so I’d say it’s worth your money! Loved the choice of breads, too! The porcetta sandwich was just alright, really greasy with the amount of pesto they put on! It was cooked great, and it did need that amount of pesto for the flavor. Maybe try subbing basil in for the arugula to get a less subdued flavor? Taste was there, but way too oily. We also ordered a chip and pop between us. Whilst they’d greatly benefit from a fountain drink for this kind of place, I have the admit the chips were fantastic! She offered us more, but we were too full to even think of it! It came with a nice Chipotle mayo, but the chips themselves were already really flavorful. Super thin and crispy! I’m not normally wowed by kettle chips, especially at a sandwich shop but these were delicious. Given my alright sandwich and that they didn’t have the soup I was looking for I would be inclined to give this four stars, but I’ve got to give it to the counter girl who was super friendly and helpful! She pointed out the water dispenser, showed us the sizes before our order and was really nice! It’s not easy to work in such a hot stuffy restaurant for that long, but working with her would put anyone in a good move. Also, their selection of 3.00 beer was admittedly small, but given that it’s actually decent craft beer and not the typical cheap beer that they most places will push, it’s definitely a steal! If you’re looking to drink out, I’d say it’s the closest you’re going to get to liquor store prices. We’ll be back again!(Probably when you have the French onion soup!)

Stopped in after some shopping and had the Porchetta on whole wheat. I thought the pork was juicy and the bread was soft but unfortunately for me it didn’t beat out the Porchetta at Meat and Bread. It was missing something and it didn’t feel like I was getting my $ 10 worth. Was offered a complimentary apple fritter after my meal and it was raw on the inside… Got a big taste of raw dough.(Sad face). I’d come back and try something different though as the service was quite friendly.

We heard about this restaurant and was pretty excited to try it since we were big fans of Jon from Masterchef Canada. The feel of the place was pretty cool, I especially liked their wood tables and the chairs that swivel out. I was also impressed to see that they grew their own basil. We had our orders to go — I originally wanted to try the Porchetta sandwich but the meat wasn’t ready yet so I chose to have the beef dip instead. Le boyfriend got the bashaw beef. And they also threw in their house made chips cause the meat wasn’t ready for my original choice(excellent example of awesome customer service). The sandwiches were delicious — good meat to bread ratio it all held up pretty good at the end.

I like their porchetta with extra crackling, sometime it is too fatty so I always ask for lean meat. couple times they would run our of porchetta too which is disappointing. The roast beef sandwich is good, but overpriced in my view. if they toast their bread, it may resolve the sogginess issue for take out(which I always do).

restaurant quality beef dip sandwich at a bargain $ 10. the baguette is soft, the beef is a nice portion: 1– is good value 2– has great protein/bread ratio. Taking it ‘to go’ was a bad idea– definitely not the sort of sandwich you can easily eat on the run… next time I will eat in.

Uhm yea… went here recently for first time and got a chicken sandwich and soup. Let’s see, sandwich is $ 10, soup(and all other sides) are $ 6… $ 16 + tax for a sandwich and small soup is a friggin ripoff. Hardly any meat in the sandwich, hardly any toppings, soup was somewhat tasy but not large enough portion for the price. Overall, the value for your dollar at this place is just NOT worth it. Left still hungry. A place that calls itself MEATCITY should be *PILING* on the meat, not skimping. Try charging $ 7 for that same sandwich and $ 3.00 for the soup, maybe you’d have a better chance at competing with Subway next door on cost basis to draw in more of a crowd. Anyway, while the chicken itself tasted good, there just wasn’t enough meat, toppings, or soup for the price they charge. Either increase your portion sizes(particularly the meat and toppings, and sides) or decrease the price… right now its just not worth the money. Won’t be back until this changes.

Work just ordered from here, I got a chicken sandwich and fresh chips. Pretty great. Loaded with garlic, so if that’s your number then they’ve got it. Tasty bread, nice sauces. I’m surprised at the low average rating.

I was a little put off by the non stellar Unilocal reviews, but I had a great roast beef sandwich here yesterday. Plenty of tender beef, Dijon, crispy onions and a tasty dipping sauce. I read poor reviews of the baguette it came on… To me it was a standard baguette that allowed the meat to shine and be the star attraction. It was huge too, and I’m an eater. 2 meals for me! I only gave 4 stars because I was not the biggest fan of the iced tea. It was way too sweet. Also, I didn’t realize that I had to order tomato, onions and cheese separately and wish that the staff had mentioned it when they realized that I hadn’t been there before. Give it a try if you like roast beef. I don’t leave a ton of Unilocal reviews, but I want this place to stick around for my future lunch breaks from work.

2 and a half stars would be a more accurate rating for me, but since I was such a huge fan of Jon on masterchef I rounded up. I’ve only tried the porchetta(twice) and there are some issues. The flavor is pretty good, but they need to crisp up the texture. Pork is just too fatty, the bun needs a toasting, the chips are also just kinda soggy. Lastly $ 12 is about $ 2 more than I like to pay for a sandwich, even a really good one, so lose the free sugary iced tea and charge $ 10 instead. Jon I’m a huge fan, so I do hope you read these reviews and raise your game because I’d love nothing more than to see you succeed.

Not sure what I was expecting, but quite disappointing. my 12 dollar sandwich included some slices of meat and a sprig of cilantro in a hard baguette. Yum :| This was pretty steep and uninspiring I thought, but I was informed my 12 dollars also entitled me to a drink. A bit better I thought, what’s available? Water and iced tea? And you’re out of iced tea? 12 bucks gets me a stale baguette with only meat in it, and a ‘free’ glass of water?!? The one visit was enough for me thanks. I always wish the best for a new business, but success needs to be earned.

Meat city Sandwiches… Self proclaimed as «Vancouver’s Premium Sandwiches», this joint specializes in ummm… Meat sandwiches. Rubbery /chewy meat dressed in salsa verde served with a supermarket baguette is pretty much what it is. The porchetta is too fatty. The chicken was too rubbery and lacked flavor. Crispy fried beans and asparagus was the face saver. The Mac and cheese here is terrible. KD Mac’n Cheese is much better. There’s nothing premium about this place at all. Calling this premium is like calling Justin Bieber the greatest performer. Food: Meh Service: Friendly Ambiance: Casual Worth the price: Never say never

Came here starving with a friend who claim to be on a ‘diet’. We ordered the city world platter which feeds about 2 – 3 people for $ 30. Decided that would be a better choice considering a sandwich each would cost us $ 24 anyways. The servers were friendly and welcoming. Water and their house-made ice tea is self-served. We made our order at the front and took a seat. Their tables and seats are pretty neat as the seats were a pull-out which is not often seen in other diners. The server came shortly with our platter and some paper plates, plastic cutlery and gave us a brief description on what was in the platter. For the meat, there was prime rib, chicken and porchetta. For the starch, there was bread, mac & cheese, chips and chili lime corn. There was a few sauce/dips which I probably don’t remember except for the salsa verde, cheesy dip and mayo mixed with some other sauce. There were no veggies except for the deep fried asparagus. There was definitely more starch components than protein which I thought was a bit of a rip off considering the proteins look more like cuts of meat that we would find in a sandwich. I termed this platter the ‘healthier’ version of Memphis Blue’s BBQ platter. The highlight for me was their dips. It was really tasty and brought the meat to another level. I also enjoy the chili lime corn and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It was obvious that a male on diet and a female could not finish this platter so we packed the rest to go. I must say, the mac & cheese tasted a lot better at home than at the restaurant, the chips was surprisingly still crispy and the deep fried asparagus was also tastier later on. I did not have any of the bread but my friend told me that it goes well with the salsa verde as a dip. Honestly, I’ve never had bread with salsa verde so I wouldn’t know if that would be a good pairing.

where to start… For $ 12 one would be expecting a sandwich of a lifetime but alas noooooooo. lets start with the bread, we over hear the guy behind the counter going on about how the bread is specially made for them, extra crusty and light french bread. but alas nooooooo again it was just any old french bread with no crunch or bite what so ever. I had the so called porchetta it came with about 4 sprigs of arugula… TOMATOORREDONIONAREEXTRA… firstly it was not porchetta it was day old thin sliced boneless rolled pork shoulder… it defiantly was not pork belly as any good porchetta is… i looked over my shoulder at one point to see the guy pull a massive container of thin sliced pork from the fridge. defiantly not fresh daily slow roasted… secondly there was one pittiful piece of crackling… thirdly the bread sucked… the wife had the chicken… her comment was it tasted like superstore rotisserie chicken just less flavor, and the tomatoes were flourery and the lettuce was soggy… The chips with the sandwich were the best part. but whats with the weird southwest mayo with pickles in it… very strange…

I drove all the way down to Davie St. To take in a meat fest; I enjoy BBQ so much in America that I was eager to try the newly hyped shop for a BBQ in Vancouver. I entered through a stuffy small windows front shop to what looked like tiny and very cramped industrial space with two communal tables and two smaller tables. The menu board has chalk written items to Include a platter section, 3 sandwich combos for $ 12 and sides for $ 5 I took in the world platter for 2 which the cashier explained is their best and has a little bit of everything on the menu. They had no soda water or ice cubes and there were two water and ice tea dispensers over the counter. The décor looked unfinished; unmatching wall art and red & black paint on various walls. I didn’t care about all that as I came here for the meat and I had a meat fest coming up so I was high with anticipation and most of all, very hungry! $ 32 bucks later I sat down and waited. An impressive looking tray came by my table and as you can see from the photo, it shows very well. However, that is where the honeymoon ended. The porcetta was way way way too fatty, looked like it came from a can; there was barely any meat on the sliced meat and it was a waste, all fat! Surely the person assembling the platter would have noticed! It was inedible I left it on the side of the tray. The prime rib shaving were good, cold and cooked«well done». The chicken was lukewarm and rubbery as if it came from the heating cabinet cooked many moons ago after it was torn off a Costco rotisserie chicken, no! No! no! What a ripoff for the meats at $ 32, I could have gone to Costco and make My own!!! The rest of the platter were fillers, supermarket baguette bread slices on each side, sauces that have nothing to Do with BBQ more like mayo, mayo mixed with stuff, ranch something and pesto, who eats that at a BBQ joint??? Lol the crispy asparagus was decent, but really, I didn’t expect deep fried legumes coated in shake’n’bake, really??? Come on! The Mac’n’cheese was like prison cafeteria food: tasted more like oodles of mayonnaise than any cheese, it was runny, very greasy with a hint of spiciness, I had the equivalent of two table spoons of that before giving up, yuck! The kettle chips were ice cold and are the same of what I can get in a chip bag at whole foods. The only decent side was the chili lime Corn on the cob. A waste of $ 32 and definitely there is nothing BBQ about this place. If you had to visit, avoid the fatty porcetta and stick with the $ 12 prime rib sandwich, chips and drink and have it «to go». What a shame, Vancouver needs good BBQ places and this isn’t one of them #NeverAgain #Ripoff

Not at all what we expected. Food was not freshly prepared, and our take-out was cold on arrival at home 2 blocks away. Portions seemed small for the price. Both husband and I had bad tummys all night and will not come back. We’re back to Meat and Bread. Great potential but not enough attention to the product… Sorry! =0(

I’m a roast-beef-lover, and when I see a place to eat it I go for it. Meat city Sandwiches, is a recently opened restaurant in Davie St., and what conquer my mouth was a free example given by two, almost Barbie-style, aides out site the place. That night I didn’t dare to go inside, but later on the week I had a flashback of the flavor and adventure to try the sandwiches. I’m more a hamburger person, but a sandwich is o.k. too. My husband ask for the Porchetta sandwich and I did went for roast beef. But in a tricky way we split the sandwiches to taste both flavors. I have to say that we didn’t stay in the place, is way to warm for Vancouver summer, it doesn’t have air-condition, and the aspect wasn’t that much inspiring, so we take the food to go. The porchetta was o.k., din’t amuse us that much, but the roast beaf, woowww! make me forget al about the air-condition and the fancy trashcans in the place and explode flavors into my mouth. Dijon + roast beef = winning combination. I say you should give it a try, yes the place might need some changes, but… is a newly open place, so let’s see how they work it for this summer.

After looking at the online menu this place looked amazing. I couldn’t wait to try this place. When I finally did tonight. I thought the food was good but the place needs refining. It’s all about the details in the customer experience. First walking in it needs a professional touch: extension cords on the floor, small recycle and refuse bins against the wall, half the menu is written badly in chalk and missing a «washroom» sign on that mysterious door. Ordered the porchetta and chicken sandwiches. The meat is fantastic but both the chicken and porchetta sandwiches need add ons(meat and bread is how it comes). It should come with lettuce and tomato at least. There needs to be an acidic and lighter balance to the sandwich otherwise it’s too heavy. But really, Meat City should design the sandwiches with a specific flavour profile in mind for each sandwich. The customers should not fend for themselves when it comes to making the best sandwich they have ever tasted. The bread is perfect for a wet sandwich: tasty and solid baguette(I assume it’s baguette) but not too dense. Also, your menu is missing the type of bread you use. Sandwiches come with homemade kettle chips which were very good. Best kettle chips I’ve tasted. I mentioned to the staff that they need to add«homemade» to the menu listing since it’s a mistake not to mention it. I think it makes a big deal to customers to know when there’s something homemade when they choose a restaurant. The ice tea and and water are self serve and come with the sandwiches as well. That’s fine but we need ice. It feels like you are waiting for a drink machine though. This place has got great potential. The staff is nice and helpful and loves to please. The food is good but can easily be great. I sure hope the owners/managers read this and put a little more effort into this restaurant or it will never survive on Davie Street.
