This bakery on Victoria Drive changed hands a few time in it’s history. The current owners have a fairly good customer base with many returnees. They lack marketing, but have a good strategy going for them. They are located next to a bus stop and they open their doors so the fresh baked good aroma can flood nasal passages for the people waiting for the bus. 9⁄10 times while I’ve waited for the bus, I made that U-turn into the bakery for the coconut buns. They sell fruit and chocolate sponge cakes, daily baked buns and specialities items. Their items in the display case aren’t as fresh as the ones in the cooling racks. Their prices are fairly cheaper than the ones at the Maxim Bakery(in the London Drugs complex). There is three other competitions on the Victoria Drive/41st area, but Mei Yee has the better buns.

They sell huge steamed buns with meat inside. The portions are bigger than New Town bakery and the price was reasonable! They had more filling inside with variety, I was impressed.

Probably can be a one-star higher if marketing was a higher priority for them. Only thing going for them is value and cheap, surprise, surprise. I get that these places are small-time compared to Anna’s but as you can from pic, pretty plain jane. Located across from the McDonalds, easy to miss as the exterior isn’t really eye catchy, plus a bus stop here doesn’t help, but on to the review… Like how it’s spacious, with the counters a bit deep, so you can actually stand back and just snoop around first… other places, it’s so small, and they’re on you right away. Ordered the egg tarts(the bigger ones over the mini’s), napoleon(not as well made but dad liked it), coconut bun and the ‘cookie’, which for a $ 1, was worth the nibble all day. Worth a repeat visit as there are 2 tables to hang out. Frozen buns of some sort also available in their cooler on the left side. Cash only. Friendly.

VERY cheap buns. Always enjoy getting their bola bola(1.50) and Coconut buns. Servers are usually very friendly and patient if you need some time to decide what you want to order.

Really like their egg tarts. Can’t beat 2 for $ 1.30. The white sugar cake and curry beef buns are delicious as well. They have multiple prices if you buy two of the same buns that saves you a little bit of money. They also have a promotion after 5pm that saves you 20% on buns only.
