Very fast service and price is okay. Sushi isn’t that good but teriyaki and yakisoba are nice and filling. Portions are good for the cooked stuff.

Only been here once, and my last time. I do get it that it’s targeting students but for us Unilocalers, we know better. What can i say, was just being a tad curious. Ordered something safe and tried, the cali roll, nothing special, thank goodness it’s cheap. obviously not much in this area, so it does suit one’s sushi craving. metered parking in front.

This place is awful. The toro sushi was soaking wet, the curry dish’s chicken tasted funny and rubbery, the sauce was watered down, the chicken cutlet wasn’t even made with panko, it was some weird crispy layer that tasted like cinnamon. The yam tempura was not cooked all the way through, and there were mushrooms in chicken teriyaki. which makes no sense. The tables were sticky and the guys who worked there went outside to smoke a few feet away from us. Wouldn’t recommend this. Awful.

Service is fine but the dish I had was not good. I didn’t order the sushi but I ordered the udon. The dish was a bit sour and lacked flavor and i hope it wasn’t due to spoilage. There wasn’t much beef at all– less than most establishments. I left over 90% uneaten. I don’t feel compelled to go back ever.

Simple, cheap and easy. That’s how I would describe Mio Japan. The service is efficient and up to par. Very friendly people as well. Easy on the student wallet? Check. Low prices? Check. I’m in.

For those who don’t want to go to a food court for Japanese food at UBC, but want something freshly made, this is the place to get it. Their rice and noodle dish came out to be very large in portion size — I saw lots of starving students, but I wished they focused on higher quality ingredients. Their stir fried noodles with beef and veggies had a large scary amount of noodles, but it came with only a small amount of beef. The veggie part was only cabbage and chopped up carrots. The portion size was large enough to feed two hungry people. I just wasn’t too impressed with their curry chicken with rice. It had almost no curry taste to it, and I could taste more tomato than curry. It came with a reasonable amount of decent sized chunks of chopped up chicken though. For the size of this curry dish, it could feed three people. I won’t return for their noodle or rice dishes, but their sushi dishes looked popular with the UBC students.

*1/30* The best part about Mio Japan is that the staff here are extremely efficient — they know how to handle a student lunch rush. Everything is made to order, and they also serve only wild salmon. There are good combo as well as a la carte options: one of the things that I like is that ordering a la carte doesn’t really slow them down. You can also eat in-house and they give you plates instead of wasting disposable containers — eco-friendly bonus =) Taste-wise, however, the sushi is not the best. It’s miles better than Honour Roll though and it fixes your cravings. The teriyaki/bento stuff is much better, and it comes in huge portions. Hearty and satisfying. One of my bigger issues with Mio is that their menu is a little bit complicated to navigate, and there’s no super-obvious«hey! this is the cheap student option.» I find myself wasting time just trying to decide what to order. It’s not really expensive, but it’s not as cheap as I’d like it to be either. Also a small aside that ticks me off, no free miso soup — not even with combos. The point is, if this restaurant was located downtown, would I ever go there? Probably not. But when you’re stuck on campus, it does the trick.

Mio is a pretty efficient imitation Japanese restaurant. There is very little authentic about the food and the sushi is far from fresh. The service is very fast, but the food is average at best. This restaurant really wins in the budget department though, if you know what to order.

Good, fast and relatively healthy– pretty much the most I can ask for a meal near UBC, especially one that costs under ten bucks. I go here when I can’t bring myself to cook, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. The fish is fresh and has great texture, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable, especially considering the product(sushi) and the location(the village, the home of high prices). It’s not a date-type sushi place– I get the impression that at least half of their orders are to go. Wrong place to take a girl at night, but a great place to go for lunch or to grab dinner on the go if you’re in a rush. It’s one of the few places on or near campus I enjoy eating at.

Mio Japan is a real gem. The food is fresh, the hot items(teriyaki and yakisoba) are cooked to order, and the staff are friendly and helpful. One feels that one has had a healthy and hearty meal. For a primarily takeout place with a few tables, Mio Japan is among the best.

So, you have 30 minutes before your next class and you’re in the Village. McDonalds? Pizza? No! You want something that at least seems healthy right? Pop on over to Mio Japan for some decent Japanese food! For a crowded lunch place, Mio is actually kinda cute, with a couple of tables and a good bar seating arrangement. While the prices have risen a bit recently, Mio is still a pretty good deal considering what you get. What I usually get: 2 salmon avocado rolls & a miso soup. Other good things: Ginger Pork, Chicken Lunch Box, Beef Yakisoba Things not to get: Anything with(cooked) fish When do I think it’s good to come here? A quick lunch– if you have time to kill it’s better to go upstairs to One More Sushi or to the Student Union Building to a vegan place called Sprouts or even the Pendulum.
