*It’s a rip off* Located in the basement of the International Hostel near the Jericho Sailing Centre, and nobody would have guessed that this place exists. It only took a few sniffs from my dingy cafeteria diner sensitive nose to eventually find this place. It’s basically a diner/mess hall that’s training grounds for the North Shore Culinary School. Once I get a whiff of that kinda information, I’m an unstoppable heat seeking missile. Of course I came here. Two entrances — one from inside the hostel, and one from the outside on the north side of the building. There are a couple of picnic benches outside should you endeavour to dine outside. Mind you, this place is not busy, at least not busy when I got here. Breakfast and a burger. This was likely one of the better breakfasts I’ve had. A close second to Plow in San Francisco, the Bay area. #Shot! First off, the crispy potatoes. They are tasty. Boiled, cut up, seasoned, fried, and flash fried before serving. A close second to the potatoes at Plow. Scrambled eggs prepared very pleasantly. Again, similar to Plow. To my surprise, they also served in house made sausage patties. Better than the ones I had at Plow, the Bay Area. #Shot! Here’s the kicker. It tastes very similar to the sausage patties that I make at home. *It’s a rip off*. They took a page out of the Herman E. playbook for seasoning meat. A bit of fennel and other seasonings. Special mention to the biscuits They are as good as everyone says they are. Burger. Another rip-off, and another page out of the Herman E. playbook of seasoning meat. House made patty with oregano. Cut it out already! Total bill. $ 26 cash only. Pretty damned good price for that caliber of cooking, and it wasn’t a Denny’s! They have a liquor license as well.

Quiet, good service and atmosphere. Food was average in my opinion, I was expecting better based on reviews. We had the eggs benedict, with black forest ham on a biscuit with hashbrowns, and pancakes. The hollandaise sauce was bland and eggs didn’t really have a runny center typical of eggs benedict. The biscuit and pancakes were nothing special. The pancakes were also kind of gummy. The coffees came with free refills, although the coffee wasn’t great.

Love the classic breakfast here, but go for the bacon option(the sausage was underwhelming). The biscuits are delicious and flaky. The coffee tastes a bit off to me, but I’m not an expert. The Corned Beef Hash had really delicious meat in it but the hollandaise sauce on top was a bit much. Food comes out slow because its a student training kitchen. This place still gets a high rating from me because its one of the only breakfast places I know without a lineup on the weekend.

My first impression is what a shame it is in the basement of the building when it is located in such a beautiful part of Vancouver! Ambiance is pretty much zero! Luckily the food made up for that with great portions, stuff made from scratch, nice and hot! There is just too many good places overall in Vancouver, but if you leave close by and is very hungry this is the place.

Enormous portions, perfectly made. Best breakfast option in the area. Seabreeze air and a beautiful view of the park perfectly compliment the fantastic food. $ 11 gets you more food than you could possibly eat. Prices range from $ 6-$ 14. Very reasonable. And the biscuits. Oh god the biscuits. So perfect. Order anything that comes with a biscuit and you can’t go wrong.

I must say that my first impression of this café was really great! I was here to have breakfast. The service was very friendly and courteous and then came the FOOOOODDDD! I love good food! And this was good food and might I add, the portions compared to price were fabulous too!!! I definitely will be back again when I’m in the area. Good on you all for making me smile!!!

Hello… I am Jef Choy… It pains me to write this review because I like to think of this place as being my little secret and I’d hate to ever see it get busy. Keeping in the spirit of Christmas and seeing it ¾’s empty though, has made me write this review. Hands down the best bang for your buck breakfast in the city at $ 5.00. Beyond that I’ve tried the pancakes as well and they were delicious as well. The sizes are american, and the quality is top notch… and yes… the biscuits… I’d fish one out of a garbage can if given the opportunity. The ambiance is mess hall, the service is adolescent(except for the obvious), but I wouldn’t change anything.

So yeah, this is an amazing place to get a breakfast. For $ 5(and the Unilocal checkin) you get eggs, homemade sausage or bacon, great home fries, homemade biscuit, and unlimited coffee. And it’s GOOD. Haven’t tried lunch, but I assume it’s as good, though not as amazingly priced.

AMAZING. SOFREAKINGAMAZING. I know I’m dishing out 5-stars like I’m ballin’, but this place is SO ridiculously good, It deserves a 6th star if that’s even possible. It’s partnered with North Shore Culinary School. So right there, the food is good. Like lick your plate clean good. I came for a breakfast was instantly sold on their biscuits. If you come for breakfast, make sure you get a biscuit, or order it on the side. REFUSETOLEAVEWITHOUT A BISCUIT! It’s partnered with Hosteling International. This little place is tucked away under the Hostel at Jericho, which means the food is cheap. So mind-boggling cheap. It’s a huge benefit to me when I’m coming off the paddling waters at the sailing centre and need some food and don’t have much on me. Their breakfast is $ 5, and their lunches & dinners around around $ 10. I would eat here for every meal if I could. So mouth-watering food at wallet-friendly prices means this place is where it’s at. As much as it pains me to tell you all about this place, you HAVE to try it. I cannot WAIT to come back here again. PS. Sent the husband here Sunday morning for breakfast with his friends, and he didn’t bring me back a biscuit. I was mad at him for the rest of the weekend. PPS. 300th review! Yaaaaaay!!!

My ‘best find of 2012′. Located inside the Jericho Hostel, and just stumbled upon it initially(think: fate!) when checking out it’s eagle nest across the road. Its all about those homemade biscuits(~akin to scones?)…I’d suggest coffee & biscuits as a date anytime. The post-meal walk along the beach goes hand-in-hand with the happy-belly! I loved the classic breakfast as described in the previous review! I also enjoyed the buttermilk & cornmeal waffles, and the spinach/tomatoe/goat omelette :-) Next time will be their meat or veggie hash with eggs, and of course a biscuit! I see the google map which is automatically attached to the locations posted here isn’t actually correct(google’s issue). It is ON Discovery, not to the east as the map here represents. Easy to get here via transit or by car, and its been well-worth my 1 ½ hr walk to this beach-side café as I live in the centre of the city. The owner is often there in the mornings, and is very charming & personable with his patrons. I especially value his endeavours to train/employ the culinary school’s students. Virtuous and delish! Defintitely a good-cause to support.

This place is fantabulous — serving excellently prepared food at value prices! Located at Jericho Beach in Point Grey below the International Hostel, it has beach/park access with plenty of parking! I wish we could have walked here to burn off some of the calories from our amazing breakfast. My Dad and I ordered the«Classic» Breakfast which came on a plate piled high with home fries(I think Discovery Café refers to them as hash browns — these potato nuggets are laboriously baked until the skin is perfectly crispy and then sauteed to perfection with perfectly diced yellow and green bell peppers and green onions), 2 eggs prepared any way you like, 3 sausages or bacon, a home-made biscuit which was flakier than any biscuit I’ve ever had and unlimited coffee — for a whopping $ 4.95!!! The Chef/Owner/Creative Genius that started NSCS(North Shore Culinary School) started this Café to help the non-profit get cooking time for its students that it sponsors(i.e. the students get to learn for free AND get paid minimum wage). Get here before Discovery Café gets discovered and then there’ll be a line out the door!
