Waitress was really nice. The ribs and sides were yummy. Mac and cheese sounded better than it ended up tasting. That was a bit of a let down. Chill little diner. I would check it out again and give a few other menu items a chance.

The Deacons chicken burger with the Southern fried chicken is crunchy, juicy and moist. They stack 2 pieces of their fried chicken into the burger leaving you full and content! Poutine is just alright, but the burger more than makes up for it! Definitely worth a try if youre in Kits.

Decent food, nice retro look & feel. It takes a bit long to get your food once you ordered. Prices are OK. A good spot for a Saturday lunch

Worst service I’ve seen in a while couldn’t even get coffee cuz the waiters never checked on us. Then after almost an hour we got our food and they charged us for syrup for the pancakes without even letting us know.

It’s good, not great but good. Pancakes were nothing special, and I paid extra to get«maple syrup» which only tasted marginally better than normal syrup(I’ve had better). Orange juice was watery. Sausage came as a patty but I assumed it would be an actual sausage cause… It said sausage. But overall service was decent and although it was busy didn’t take too long. Subpar breakfast.

Casual décor & diner. Very friendly & approachable staff. Restaurant was not full but it took a very long time before our meals came out – similar comments from other reviewers. We were fine as we came in a group and chatted but if you’re feeling very hunger or on a tighter schedule, this will be a problem. Salmon was supposed to be two pieces per menu but only one piece arrived. My guy friend ordered the deep fried chicken, supposed to be three pieces per menu but seemed there were only 2 ½ pieces. Food was decent, not high end obviously as a diner but glad we tried this place out.

I live a block away so I’ve enjoyed weekend hangover breakfast here many time(served until 3pm). I’d describe it as upscale dinner food, Dinnertastic.

Abby S and I came here to do some quick work before the Elite Event on Monday. The staff were super nice, and very accommodating! We ordered the tater tots to share, and our server was enthusiastic that this was a good choice! I also got the tomato soup and a soda water with lime. The soup was creamier than I was expecting, and came with a package of crackers. It was quite good, although I do wish it hadn’t been cream based. The tater tots were really delicious — ooey gooey cheesy and super crispy. Very unique and tasty! The décor is cute and retro, definitely feels like a super old school diner. I’d likely come back if I was in the area.

I have been here for breakfast three times now and each time has been excellent. The food is high quality and the portions are BIG. My husband loves the Southern Fried Chicken with biscuits and gravy. The service is always great. Excellent menu.

Not bad. Food is pretty good and price very decent. Meal is around $ 15 per person. Diner price. Food not bad. I ordered the pan grill salmon with mash potatoes. I like how it came with Kale veggies. The grill salmon is a bit dry but still not bad. It is a diner so no high expectation. My dad ordered the Sirloin Steak. He liked it. By the way he is a picky eater. So that’s a thumbs up. The Décor is basically the 80s style diner style. Parking well there are street parking. Its in my hood so I just walked there. This place is super busy in the summer time and winter time not so much. Only cons about this place is the long wait for the food to come out. Definitely coming back

First time on a Saturday for brunch. Was busy so thought it was a good sign. Server was nice but after that the rest went down. Multiple mistakes on the order, then they were out of what we wanted, nobody apologized or explained why. Not even check in to see how everything was. Food was below par and not that tasty. Really bad customer service really did it in for us. Never going back.

OK. Amending my review to include a bit more detail, as my friend and I eat here/order from here quite regularly. Today I had sort of a bum experience, but it won’t really affect the rating. We’ll just cover the meals we’ve had there… Burgers — Good flavours, always SUPER well done. Unless you like your burger a bit charred(can be a bit much for me at times), maybe consider something else. The toppings always taste fresh, and they put some pretty delicious mayo on there. Just wish they’d stop stapling pickles to the top of the burger like White Spot does, as it dampens and flavours the bun — My friend and I always forget to ask for them to leave it off. Oh well! Buffalo chicken burger — This is what I ordered today for delivery for lunch. The first time I had it, it was new to the menu and quite tasty. The only downside was that the crispy skin with all of the buffalo flavouring slipped right off the chicken. It’s been a while since I gave it a shot, so I figured I’d order it today. Instead of getting what I ordered, I was given the crispy chicken wrap(but on a bun? how did this happen?). This was no bueno, I’m afraid. The breading was super thick and flavourless, and I am not at all a fan of swiss cheese. Because I didn’t have time to wait around for re-delivery and was left with just a few fries for lunch, I had to get just-eat to issue a refund. Not sure if the chicken is maybe prepared differently(as in, sliced and maybe less breaded) for a wrap, but it was not good on a bun. Chili — Good. Meat’s a little chewy. Added some spices and seasonings + cheese to dress it up. Fries — Always really good. Not seasoned or anything, but cooked very well. My friend also claims they re-heat in the oven really well… Maybe random, but definitely a plus, as this is not typically the case with fries in this city(we’re big fans of leftovers). Pulled pork — It’s fine. I’m from the southeastern US, so I’m super picky about pulled pork and very wary of anything in this area labeled«southern» or «Carolina». They don’t have it on-point, but it’s the best I’ve had since I moved here, and they say they cook it in vinegar… Which is the«Right» way. I’m learning to lower my standards a bit, especially after learning that Memphis Blues and all other places that claim to have an understanding of proper southern cuisine are living a lie. A dirty, dirty lie. Breakfast — Legit pancakes. Can’t remember if I’ve had anything else there. Beer selection — Fairly minimalist, but fine. They added their own house brew to the menu recently, but I haven’t had a chance to try it. Staff — Friendly and polite. They were very kind and interactive with my friend and I the few times we’ve had a chance to slide up to the bar and have a couple of drinks. Another reviewer witnessed seeing a cook in a tank top — We have seen this as well. It’s a little weird for a proper sit-down restaurant where the cook staff is clearly visible, guys. Overall, it’s one of my favourite places in the neighbourhood. Was a little bummed to not have a proper lunch today as I was really craving something in the buffalo chicken family, but my friend and I split her burger(she didn’t like the chicken either, unfortunately), and I got a refund, so no real harm.

No review of the food, because we never got any. After a half hour wait for a table, we were seated outside on the patio. It was raining, and the host told us it would be «at least» a half hour for food. Okay. Ten minutes later, we got menus. And then for the next half hour, nothing happened. No one came by to check on us, give us some water, take an order– but tables kept getting seated around us. Attempts to flag down a waiter were futile. After 45 minutes of being ignored, we left. I understand busy, and I understand a half hour for food– but abandoning a table for 45 minutes without even taking an order isn’t busy, it’s just incompetent service.

Well folks, this one’s a doozy. The short version: major health code/safety violations, terrible and incompetent service, wrong/didnt get our orders, zero discount after we were told we would get one, and 1.5 hours and $ 60 for eggs for three people. For details, refer to full rant below. Full rant: We live close to this place, but are creatures of habit. Our normal place was busy, so we decided to try out this place. Let me say this: I will put up with a lotta crap from diners — I get it — they’re busy. However, this place has elicited a poor-review-on-yelp response from me — an expense of effort not wasted on mundane complaints. Our server was short with us, a bit rude and took 15 minutes just to come give us water. Another 10 went by for him to take our order. Whatever, nbd. I ordered tea and orange juice with my meal. Then he came back 10 minutes later to RE-take our order because he couldnt read his writing. Whatever. I still didnt get my orange juice. Whatever. Then we got some food, eventually. Not ours, though. No orange juice yet. We pondered eating it anyway, we were so hungry at that point. We weren’t even going to demand they correct the order. We just wanted to eat. Whatever. A few bites and addition of salt and pepper were had to this strange food, because none of the staff would make eye contact. Whatever– really. We finally waved down our server, and he noticed right away that we had the wrong food– And no orange juice. He proceeded to apologize profusely, as he picked up our plates, and then PUTTHEMDIRECTLYONTHETABLENEXTTOUSFORTWOOTHERGUESTS. Remember, bites were had, and seasoning added. I took serving courses– that is NOTCOOL. It’s a good thing none of us had hep or herp, I guess. The poor guests next to us must not have noticed the second-hand food, because they ate it and left. That was the Point of Unilocal, where I decided I would not let this slide. 45 mins into our visit, we got our food — but no orange juice. The food was ok — minus the cold, congealed, hollondaise sauce. Our pal, however, had ordered avacado instead of sausage(twice, mind you), and received a tomato. When he inquired about it, we were told they had no avacadoes.(There are plenty of fresh vegetable markets in a 5 minute walk, but hey, i guess i dont understand the complexity of running a diner.) My pal got a fruit bowl, instead. I still didnt get orange juice, and now i had requested hot water for my tea as well, twice. During this time, we observed an unfortunate accident lead another server to drop a tray of drinks on the floor at another table. Server ended up ok, no one was hurt. However, for the rest of the time, that slippery floor stayed wet. Just a puddle of drinks. For at least a half hour. Anyway, our waiter stopped by in the last few bites to offer an apology for the bad experience, but he just blamed it on everyone else. «Oh, they still havent gotten you that orange juice?» He then proceeded to say, «We wont put it on the bill– i havent rung it in anyway.» …Thats prolly why«they» never got around to it, eh? Anyway, i finally got my orange juice. I havent refused to tip in YEARS. Decades. No matter how bad it is, if the server isnt swearing at me, i always tip 10% at LEAST. I will tip large for exceptional service– it doesnt have to be ‘perfect’- just welcoming, friendly, and attentive. He charged me for the F @$&! orange juice. We are never going there again.

I’m a fan of the other location, but like there, determined that breakfasts, surprisingly, are not the strength. The food was not as good as I’m used to in semi-hipster places. Don’t get me wrong, it was«ok» just not standout but I feel if they are at all connected to the other location, this is probably a bad day and the menu certainly offers an array of comfort food that interests me. Why 4 stars then? Though this part of Broadways is by no means dead, a place that has some outside patio space and isn’t «really, really» expensive is most welcome. There is something somewhat down to earth about this place that I like and the space itself(patio aside) is somewhere that deserved a business that was not just a «go there once every 3 years» like the Greek places that were here before or the trendy«Shack». After the various Hollywood theatre fiascos, some life needs to be breathed into this area on the street level and Deacon’s does help that.

Perfectly reasonable operation. Friendly staff. I went at four in the afternoon and it was quiet. I had eggs, toast, and fruit. It was well prepared and they gave me a decent price(since that wasn’t even on the menu). I imagine it’s too busy on weekend mornings but I thought it was great for a late lunch.

Nice quiet diner-style restaurant in the middle of Kitsilano. Parking is available on the side streets. The inside is styled like a 1960s diner(comparable to Lucy’s), with vintage looking furniture and décor. Hipsters rejoice. Nice and quiet inside, which made the experience a lot more enjoyable than the bar-type establishments down the street. Staff were friendly, and quite attentive. As I was using a coupon, I had to pick a burger off their discount menu. I went for the Blue Suede Shoes(blue cheese, bacon, fried mushrooms) burger, with a side of fries. The burger was actually quite good. Definitely worth a mention.

Deacon’s is a welcome addition to west Broadway. They took over the old location of the shack and provide a café/diner experience. Although a switch up from cookie cutter bar to diner is refreshing for that stretch of block, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Their service has been consistently slow or innatentive in the five times I have been there. The food is decent but not special in any way and is slightly over priced. They do have a great patio space though; ideal for a few beer in the sun with friends.

I have been to Deacon’s Corner twice now– once for a nice breakfast and today again for a later lunch. I was very skeptical about the diner-style venue due to the predecessor being a complete cesspool. The breakfast combo I had was enormous, great dollar value and tasted absolutely great! The interior décor was lacking at the time. Fast forward two weeks and renos are now done. The smell of fresh paint on the bright yellow and red walls was proof that the finals touches were in place; the new look really brings the place to life. This afternoon I had the«Filthy» burger, which based on name, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The hot and fresh tasting pulled pork smothered on a thick juicy slab of hamburger all encompassed in a perfectly toasted brioche bun was delicious. I’m not saying it was the best burger I’ve ever had, but it was absolutely the best burger I can ever remember tasting. Will definitely be back, will definitely bring friends, will definitely promote. On a side note, server with the Legend of Zelda necklace was outstanding and made for great conversation! Thanks for the great meal!

Huge, funky and interesting menu. Lots of standout breakfast options — including pulled pork. Be still my heart. Great spot for families with kids and I don’t mean that in the Chuck-e-cheese way. Service is fast & friendly and non-irritating hip.
