I tried a variety of their breads for breakfast(coconut, pineapple, sponge cakes, jien dui etc) and they’re really yummy! The stuff is really inexpensive too. Deducted one star because some of their breads were not warm and toasty enough. I guess it can’t be helped though, it was February morning and people were coming in and out of the store, leading to cold air flow.

This is our go to bakery for fresh fruit and whipped cream birthday cakes. Over the years I’ve pretty much tried everything they sell in the bakery. Almost everything gets two thumbs up. I’m only giving three stars though because … their pre-packed baked goods … several years ago I had bought a cake roll … I did check the best-before date … however upon opening the cake when we got home … there was mould spores all over the cake. They wouldn’t take it back claiming that I made the switch with a bad cake at home. So for a couple of years after I didn’t return to their bakery. I started going back two years ago and they seemed to have improved immensely after that incident. But still … the indignity I felt when they said I switched the cakes still lingers … so only three stars.

I used to think that they have similar quality as Maxim’s bakery. Now I know that they have less quality than Maxim’s bakery. They even have less quality(for both cakes and service) than the bakery in the supermarket. I bought a 6 inch chestnut cake there; they didn’t ask me if I need to write something on the cake or not. They also said they didn’t have a knife. I know the bakery at the supermarkets like Price Smart Foods or Save-On-Foods would ask you if you need to write anything on the cake or not, or they would give you a plastic knife when you buy a whole cake. The staff there are rude to customers. They told one of the customers to take something from the fridge themselves, and they also shouted at another customer, «Put them down there.» It was really loud. For the chestnut cake, the chestnut filling can be less sweetened, and I cannot taste the milk in the cream because it is too light. I also tried their passionfruit mousse, tiramisu, and chocolate cake. The flavours are not strong. The cakes at the supermarket, like Price Smart Foods, taste better than them. I really don’t like bakeries who let their bake goods or cakes(any kind) exposed to the air without any cover/shelf door nor packaging due to sanitary reason. That’s why I didn’t try their pastries nor their buns. They do have some individual packages of pastries but not much. The service at the other locations might be a little better than this location. but the quality of the cakes at Pine House Bakery are inferior to other bakeries.

I was one of their regular customers but last christmas I bought 2 cake logs. During christmas dinner, we tried to cut the cake but was very hard and dry. It only took one bite and i knew something wrong with it. I tried to return the one that we didn’t open but they refused to take it back. I told them to try the one that i opened so they know what I was talking about. They said its supposed to be hard but this one is really hard and dry, no wonder its was called a cake log, hard as a log! I was very disappointed as this was not the first time but before they change the chocolate cake I bought back as that time it tasted like an old chocolate. I will never buy anything there anymore as they do not know how to stand by their product. Maybe they are really using old stock that is why the quality of their cake is getting worst! I hope no one buys there anymore! WASTEOFTIMEANDMONEYALSOHEALTHHAZARD!

I’ve walked by here many times, however, was inspired me was that I wanted a not so sweet Asian pastry. I love Asian bakeries ’cause their pastries aren’t that sweet. This place is extremely reasonable on prices with generous portions. $ 4 gets you a decent amount of stuff. The staff were nice to me which was a plus as I have had bad experiences in which I wasn’t treated well at Asian bakeries ’cause I didn’t speak the language. This place is Cash only just a heads up.

Sampled the egg tarts and the jin deui. The crust on the egg tarts was not flaky at all. It was more like a butter cookie dough. I really REALLY prefer the flaky type. The jin doi’s red bean filling was good. But the outside had been over fried to the point that the sesame seeds had a slight burned flavour. The rice flour pastry also had become overly hard from the over frying. Not a repeat for me. I’m amazed that in a city with so many good Chinese bakeries this place doesn’t get its act together a bit more!
