Decent sushi, good prices and they have an efficient system going on. This self-serve place is kind of tucked away and most of the seating is downstairs, as is the order counter. You order and they give you an electronic buzzer to let you know when your food is ready, which I really appreciate. Daily specials are a good value and the portions on other menu items are a fair size. Due to its convenient location in the business district, it’s often packed at lunch, so get there early or late if you want to find a table.

Good quality fish, reasonable prices(especially for the CBD), and pretty fast service. Only downside is the seating is limited and pretty cramped. Definitely worth a visit.

Our office ordered some platters & other dishes for take-out from this place today, so I was able to try a variety of items from their menu. We had a couple boxes of Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, Beef Teriyaki with rice, and a few party platters(Sashimi Platters, and Sushi Roll Platter B). The sashimi & sushi were very fresh & portions were generously sized. Fish: rice ratio on the sushi was really awesome. I loved the Unagi sushi, the salmon sashimi, and the House roll best! The Chicken Karaage & Gyoza were alright — tasty, but nothing particularly special. I didn’t get to try the Beef Teriyaki with rice, but my co-workers who did said it was good. Overall, a great meal! I’ll definitely stop by the restaurant for lunch sometime.

They were so fast and it was really good. It felt kinda like the hole in the wall type places where you are always pleasantly surprised. I ate like a pig. Oink

Everything you’d expect from a typical sushi joint whose business consists almost entirely of the lunchtime working class crowd. Everything tastes less than mediocre, the servings of rice are large(to fill you up), and the quantities of fish in all their dishes are laughably thin and/or small. All this comes to you at prices you’d expect from a restaurant located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Meh… know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed.

This place is good for a quick lunch time fix. They have several specials available daily(closed on the weekends) and the service is efficient, with very reasonable prices for the quality of food you get. The place is very busy between 11:30 — 1:30, so avoid those times if you want to guarantee a seat.

Stopped by this place for a quick bite and was surprisingly good! We had the sashimi which were really fresh compared to many other sushi restaurants we’ve tried, as well as the spicy combo. The sushi portions were generous and the price is very reasonable. Would definitely come back again.

It’s this small little gem hidden away on Dunsmuir street. The Combos come at a good price($ 10 and up) but individually the rolls are quite pricey $ 8. The service was slow and they seem to not listen when ordering just rush you through and then make mistakes, which explains my 4 stars and not 5.

Just witnessed on of the cooks lick their hand then touch someone’s food. Luckily it was not mine, but I will be sure to never eat here again.

As I’m sitting inside the restaurant, waiting for the food to digest, I thought I should write my review of this place. The short review: this place is a great sushi place. The longer review: We ordered spicy tuna roll, tuna avocado roll, and smoked salmon roll, and two miso soups. The food was quite fresh, and we didn’t wait much to get our food. The place itself is neat. It’s in a basement, but it didn’t feel dingy, we actually liked the decoration. Although it’s not a small place, but it feels cozy. The food was quite filling. There are more pieces than usual in each roll(I think). The price at the end, after tax was around $ 18. We had a really good experience, and we’d definitely come back again.

My new favourite lunch spot. Rue 909 has decent, fresh, sushi at a pretty good price. The fancy rolls are pretty good, but if you want something simple like a dynamite roll or a spicy tuna roll those are good too. It gets pretty crazy down there at lunch, so go early if you want a table.

Another rare instance in which my fellow Unilocalers have fooled me. Ordered the spicy combo for about $ 17 with tax; nothing taste amazing and they charged extra for brown rice. Far from the best spicy tuna roll in town as they claim. Head on down to Dream Sushi on Main or Kadoya on Davie for a to die for spicy tuna roll, or even to die for sushi! Décor seems cool at first descending down but it’s very cramped with no windows; this place has zero charm. It felt more like a buffet line or cheap 4.99 Chinese. I will not be returning.

We stayed in nearby hotel, so ordered a few quick entries to go. The spicy tuna roll, for $ 4.5, was 8 solid pieces of yumminess. Honestly I’ve never had a roll with so much fish packed inside. The tuna was tender and fresh too. The sushi came in black rice(they ran out of white rice) topped with chef’s special hot sauce. I feel the flavor is just right, a bit spicy but not overwhelming. I’m very happy with the roll, such great quantity/quality for a small cost. We also ordered two unagi nigiri and a tempura combo. My wife tackled those mainly, so I don’t have much to say. They also seem decent but not as surprisingly great value as the tuna roll. The shop is small but clean and intimate. We didn’t wait long for our order. It seems to be a pretty efficient business. Overall I’m very satisfied. Would return in a heartbeat.

I consider myself a little bit of a sushi snob, so when I read about Rue 909, I was skeptical. Our last 3 sushi experiences around town have been disappointing, but we ventured in regardless. We hadn’t planned to eat sushi, we were walking by and saw the sign and remembered we had read about it, so why not?! We ordered the Spicy Combo(21 pieces, spicy dynamite, spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls) and a large Sapporo(not included in combo). We ordered at counter, sat down and the beer was delivered promptly to our table with two ice cold pint glasses. Sushi arrived shortly after. All 3 rolls were delish!!! My favorite was the salmon. Enjoyed it immensely and its put sushi back in my good books :) The bill came to 25.42 including tip. Good value and great food. Side note: Delivery available to certain areas and the restaurant closes at 7pm and is closed Sat and Sun.

The sign advertising the best spicy sushi in Vancouver always drew my attention. … and no. Bold claim. Inadequate delivery. My Spicy Tuna Roll consisted of spicy sauce drenched chopped tuna enveloped within soggy sushi rice, and smothered with more wet spicy sauce. Yes it packs heat, but otherwise not very flavourful. The same roll at Bay Sushi is a much better rendition. There was a strong whiff of chlorine walking into this restaurant. Gag.

A sushi joint set up like a McDonald’s. :) Got the bento box with green salad, tempura, gyoza and subbed the California roll for a spicy tuna roll for $ 10. It’s quick, cheap but and even during the downtown lunch rush you can usually find a place to sit.

I love sit down restaurants where you don’t have to tip. The savings adds up over time. Enter Rue 909. Cooly efficient, even when there are long lines, you can be in and out for a sit down lunch in less than 30 minutes without really feeling rushed at all(leaving time to hit the mall). After you order, you get a buzzer, so you can go sit down and chat with your friend and the buzzer will let you know when you can come get the food. Thanks to this, you don’t have to stand and hover around the counter, although some people still do that. The prices are very reasonable(about $ 10 for a bento box), and the food is decent — it’s not spectacular but it never disappoints either. And the tea is free as is ice water with a hint of lemon! I’m sold — this is my new go to downtown sushi joint.

Sometimes a place is busy and it takes forever to get your food And sometimes a place is busy, but they are efficient so you don’t have to wait forever. That also means the raw fish is never sitting around waiting to be used. Efficient, well priced and fresh sushi. Yay Rue 909 Sushi!

3 for food, but 4 for the location and ambience for the DT crowd. Chances you’re going to bump into someone but not past 7pm, when they close so it’s primarily for the working professionals lol. Located near the popular Cactus Club on Burrard. Ordered the Deluxe Bento for $ 10.75: chicken teriyaki, dynamite roll, salad, gyoza, & tempura(small pieces). all in all, a good variety but not gonna make run back for more anytime soon. Though I’d take this over food stuff any day.
