Good quality and well priced. The fish was very fresh. Probably one of the better Japanese restaurants around this neighbourhood without having to wait.. New owners I believe. It has a clean new look.

The $ 9.99 combo is for three of a plethora of options, including a few one doesn’t usually see in sub-$ 12 combos, like several nigiri options, a good agedashi tofu, etc. You can build a good little meal, whether you’re craving cooked or raw, rolls or just lots of protein, lean or indulgent. If you’re dining with a companion, two combos would give you miso soup and six different small plates, all for $ 20. (Bear in mind that it will cost an extra $ 1.50 per item to upgrade to sockeye salmon.) I’ve also tried the sesame tataki salmon(very good), sockeye salmon sashimi(very good), sunomono(good portion size, standard execution) and one of the aburi-style fancy salmon rolls(very good). This place is fast becoming my backup in this area for the times when Toshi is closed. The service isn’t particularly friendly, and the atmosphere and décor could use some work, but if I’m getting good sushi at a good price, I’m not counting it against them too much. Especially since I’m often just getting takeout.

I stopped in after spying a couple eating bento boxes on the patio in the evening. I liked that they offer that not just for lunch! The service was really bad, our food was dropped off and she took off before giving us any chopsticks or napkins, we had to go take them off another table inside. The prices are cheap, and the tofu and tempura were good. The yam roll was old and too squishy. At the end of the day, my husband and I were both a little ill that night, pretty sure it was the food.

Decent food, but I’m appalled by the service. I ordered from them tonight, and my combo was missing the beef udon that it was supposed to include — and the main thing that I wanted to eat. Called the restaurant and was told that there are no more drivers, so they can’t bring me the missing udon. Somehow, the restaurant is still open and accepting delivery orders, though, so I’m not sure how that’s possible. The lady said she wrote down my number and address so that next time, I’d get a free udon. She didn’t offer a refund or anything, just the vague promise of future food. There’s no shortage of sushi restaurants with delivery in Vancouver, so there won’t be a next time. I just got scammed and am left hungry.

It is cheap but not the greatest sushi ever. Go here if you just want a quick fix and mediocre sushi at a great price. Service was simple and quick.

Live close and been coming here for a long time but funny how one experience can ruin everything. Sitting inside waiting for my take away for about 5 minutes with no chef in site to make my food, he finally comes through the front doors from outside. He rinses his hands for a total of 3 seconds in the sink(no soap) then proceeds to make my food. Ya that lack of sanitation doesn’t fly with me. And they randomly pick and choose who they offer tea/water to when you’re waiting for a pick-up. This kind of inconsistency drives me nuts. Don’t think I’ll come back. The can of Raid cockroach spray in plain view of customers doesn’t instil confidence either. Oh and the actual food is about a 3⁄5.

We live just around the corner from Ryu and have grown accustomed to ordering their Chicken Teriyaki to-go on at least one weeknight when we’re lazy to cook a meal. It’s tasty, generously portioned, and fairly priced — a great value. In the past we had been cautious about ordering sushi but the revamp has proven that they can bust out some quality rolls minus the hipster vibe at other Main Street restaurants/cafes…it’s lack of an atmosphere is quite refreshing in this increasingly trendy part of East Van. The seemingly surly woman who often runs the til is actually fairly nice. We’ve made it our mission to elicit a smile somehow on each visit and now that we’re regulars, she can be pretty friendly. Try it! You might be pleasantly surprised. If the space just doesn’t do it for you, the takeout service is affordable, quick, and reliable.

So, they’ve renovated as revamped the menu. Last few visits have definitely been wonderful, and I haven’t been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered yet. I’m still only really getting takeout, so I can’t speak to the service much, but I see some new faces working there, and have had a lot more pleasant interactions. I also feel like it’s taking less time to get my order and go, which is awesome. Really happy with this place now!

I’m a little reluctant to give full stars because is anything perfect?! But I have to say our first visit to Ryu after many excellent meals of Sushi in Vancouver was a great experience. Excellent service, excellent sushi(fresh, delicious) and excellent prices. Ok, I feel better about putting down 5 stars! New ownership has certainly made a huge difference from average to fantastic!

New Owners. Upgraded the place. Very tasty. Good Portions. Still need some work on the service. I believe they will figure it out since they have invested $$$ into their business.

There ain’t nothing wrong with Cheap Chinese-owned sushi sometimes. Yeah, it’s not great But it’s not bad Good fish, well priced and filling. For 10 $ it will feed me for two small meals. One large meal if I’m feeling extra piggy that day. You can get 3 generous rolls & miso for under 10 $ and that’s just about right for me when I’m just in the mood for sushi and not necessarily in the mood to go to a full on restaurant for sushi.

This is one of those Sushi places that I have walked by for years with my best friend. It’s tucked away somewhere where it is not obvious and isn’t inviting from the outside, however, happened to know that it was there. My best friend and I were walking down and I had an intense craving for sushi. Between the two of us it seemed worth while to share some vegetarian sushi. Price is really cheap and so is the quality. It’s fast food without actually going in for fast food. Bill for 10 pcs including tax was under $ 6. They screwed up my order. Instead of giving me the carrot rolls they gave me mixed veggies which had carrot. I was not in the mood to make a huge stink about it and went with it, however, it didn’t earn a tip. Also the waitress looked disinterested in being there and annoyed we only ordered 10 pcs. It was really quiet and bare, therefore, not sure what her problem is.

I work across the street so I’ve started coming here pretty regularly for lunch. I guess the fact that I keep coming back says something! I’m almost always the only person in there, so I just sit down and get my food really fast. There is almost no ‘service’ to speak of as I just seat myself and then walk up when I’m ready to pay. I barely even see another human the entire time I’m there, which is fine enough for me as I just want to do the crossword, but I imagine if you wanted something else you’d have to wander off to seek somebody. The food is marginally overpriced for the quality, but I always leave paying under $ 5 so I’m not really going to complain. Decent vegetarian selection, decent quality. All in all it’s A-OK all across the board. Don’t go out of your way, but don’t avoid it.

Should’ve known with a big sign blaring 18 pieces for $ 6.95 or something like that — not something I would order, it screams ‘quality’ lol. Just in the hood and decided to try something new. Ordered the katsu pork donburi, a bit too salty for me, and no real taste. Served w/the typical eggs, Chinese style vermicelli and not so tender pieces of pork, albeit a bit too thin compared to QQ Sushi, which tasted much better. But the ebi gyoza is recommended, as an appetizer. Price is cheap, all for just $ 13. Lots of parking, some free side street. Not bad, not good, so won’t be running back here any soon. Saved a star by offering free WIFI.
