Expect a wait time, but it will definitely be worth your wait. Not many special, fancy rolls you may find but the sushi is fresh and fantastic. Their chicken karaage was very good as well.

My favorite sushi place in the city. Ok let’s start with what’s bad: the wait. Its a tiny place, so either you go early or super late. Why? there’s no middle ground, and it’s always ALWAYs packed. the flipside? the pros? the food is epic. Surprisingly though, I find that their cooked food is actually much better. The baked black cod is sooooo tender and juicy and sweet and it’s far too good for words to describe. I’ve had mixed experiences with this, sometimes they give you a generous portion, and sometimes they seem to skimp so maybe it’s best to say it depends what you’re getting for the day. The baked eggplant is another must have on the menu. Its like candy… literally, its pretty much a dessert if you really wanna get into specifics. The tobiko quail egg is a tasty treat, and the sashimi is always fresh!

LOVED this local spot. Reasonably priced, and delicious. Definitely get the baked black cod and the eggplant… they were so great. We were so glad we chose this place for our last meal in Vancouver.

Seeing the lineups outside for years, this time walking past there wasn’t any so we decided to try it. It was alright. Not sure why the long lines. It was a bit pricey. The food was fresh and well assembled except for the nigiri. The rice underneath the salmon and tuna nigiri seemed slapped together without much care, and they put wasabi on top of the rice(which personally I hate when sushi places do this). Couple things I didn’t like was there were no smaller size 4 to 8 pieces of mixed tuna & salmon sashimi, only one or the other. Really? Also they charge $.75 for tea. Really? Never come across these two issues at a sushi place before. The food was good but I don’t think the hype is worth it and will probably go to other sushi restaurants first like Shiro before returning here.

One of the best japanese restaurants I’ve ever been too! Consistantly delicious and fast. Although there’s usually a wait, it’s worth it! Their marinated eggplant is to die for!(same with the chicken karage!)

Hands down my favourite Japanese restaurant that’s not in Japan. Must tries: Cod, Box Sushi, Eggplant. Everything I’ve tried there is super solid. Only downside is the inevitable line up.

Some basic betch below said she doesn’t understand why there’s a long wait for this place and that it doesn’t live up to the hype… lol… Anywayyyy, There’s a reason why this place has 4.5 stars. The food here is great. Fresh fish, great sushi, great service… This is the type of restaurant I am okay with spending more than $ 50 on myself. I ordered the grilled salmon jaw, uni sushi, spider roll, spicy tuna roll, and an assortment of sushi… So worth it. Just look at the pictures posted here, it makes me drool and want to come back now. Too bad I don’t live in YVR. Like what the basic girl below said, there is a bit of a waiting game involved to get seated, so be prepared!

After hearing so much about this place, it was time to check it out. You know the place is baller when it’s only open for dinner, and there’s a lineup out the door as soon as it opens. Parking here is woefully inadequate. My friends and I all parked at least a block away. The interior is definitely on the cramped side. There’s a waiting room but there is a ton of traffic. There’s a Japanese-style clipboard for the wait list. This place does not seat parties unless EVERYONE is there. Something to keep in mind. Larger groups(up to 8 or so) can be accommodated, but this isn’t recommended at all. Groups of 2 are more like it. Staff are friendly. There are some strange signs inside that made my friends and I scratch our heads. For example, Thermoses are banned here. Guess people have been stealing tea? There’s a regular menu, and then there’s a special menu(book of business cards). This is where the special items are. Get ready to pay through the nose if you dare to venture through it. Maguro gomazuke(tuna cubes) — nice soft pieces. Good sauce. Bluefin tuna — okay, this is something special. Nice tender pieces, and very rich in colour. $ 20 for 8 pieces, which reflects the specialness. These big guys are endangered, so get your fill before they go extinct. Box sushi roll — sushi in rectangular bricks. Reminds me of those fashionable square watermelons they grow in jars. Salmon and prawn with a slice of lemon. Decent taste, though the novelty is more with the shape than the ingredients. Nigiri combo — 10 different pieces such as snapper, squid, tuna, salmon, tuna, octopus, prawn, and tamago. Great for variety. Pieces are fresh. Shrimp tempura — nice fluffy batter. Unagi don — tasty, but small portion. Bow is a lot more shallow than it looks, because of a high base. Quality is decent. With that said, the portion size is quite lacking for those who eat a lot. My friend and I left hungry, and had to have a 2nd dinner. I would suggest pre-eating.

We went here for a Friday night dinner and arrived at 5.15(restaurant opened at 5PM). We waited for about half an hour, which wasn’t too bad for this place. We ordered Nasu Dengaku($ 5.95), Gin Tara Saikyo Yaki($ 15.95), a selection of nigiri(toro, amaebi, uni, hotate, ikura and quail egg) and Big Eye tuna sashimi(4 pieces for $ 9). As other people have said, the Nasu Dengaku was really good, definitely the best item in the menu. Meat lovers, I assure you, this is one vegetable dish you won’t regret ordering. It’s one melt-in-your-mouth goodness you won’t easily forget. I went back solely for this dish. The black cod was also good and portion-wise, very filling. Definitely worth your money. I have a mixed reaction for the nigiri. The uni nigiri was one of the best I had in Vancouver, when in season, definitely order this. The ikura with quail egg was also really good. The amaebi, toro and hotate were a little bit disappointing. The rice was also a little bit too warm the last time I went. Big eye tuna sashimi was very fresh, I prefer the blue fin over big eye but can’t complain about the freshness. As for service, it was friendly and fast. Even though the black cod supposedly take half an hour to prepare, it came just right in time after we finished eating our other orders that we didn’t notice it.

The food is amazing here! I love their dinner special box because you get to try a little bit of everything and it is very delicious! Their bbq eggplant, house roll and spicy salmon rolls are also my favourite but honestly, all of their menu items are great! Prices are reasonable for the quality, only downside is the extremely long lines(starting from 4:30 to close) and the tiny space that they have. But HIGHLY recommend coming here for some good sushi fix.

Have you been to Toshi? GOTOTOSHI! RIGHTNOW! This is the best sushi in Vancouver! They don’t have crazy rolls, the space is tiny and there’s a 45 minute wait every night that they’re open, but it’s the most authentic I’ve had in Vancouver. They are more about the cut of the fish and preparation than they are about reinventing the wheel. I have dreams about their nasu dengaku(eggplant)!

A hidden gem in Mount Pleasant. Top quality sashimi at reasonable price points. Fond experience includes thick slices of fresh sockeye and hamachi sashimi, delicious ikura with quail egg melting in the mouth, spicy agedashi tofu that is crisp on the outside and soft in the center. Nonetheless, we made new friends with two couples, who are regulars, to receive a edamame treat. What a happy surprise!

Don’t get me wrong, the sushi here is good quality and tastes fine. But is it worth a 45 – 60 minutes wait for a table for 4 on a weeknight? Nope. Especially not with Shiro 6 blocks away that is equal quality, slightly cheaper, and(to me, at least) tastes better. We had salmon sashimi, a few rolls, mixed tempura, and the miso grilled eggplant. Again, the seafood was good quality. It tasted fine. But it wasn’t rave worthy. The eggplant was highly caramelized, so very sweet and crunchy on top. I liked it, but the rest of my table didn’t, so ended up taking most of it home since it was so sweet I couldn’t eat a lot at once. This was my 2nd visit in a year. My first visit was similar, but I wanted to revisit to make sure I wasn’t there on an off night. 4 star food, but it’s not good enough to warrant the wait or the price, so I won’t be back.

Great deal, long waits, and helpful if rushed service. I really loved this place. The sockeye salmon and fresh tuna were absolutely perfect. We started out with a mix of Maki, then Sashimi, then the black cod, followed by a final sample of Nigiri. Favorites were the Yellowtail and the Sockeye salmon sashimi. The black cod was amazing and as a warm dish was rich and the texture and flavor were perfect. It was a perfect eating experience. With many people waiting we took the chance to share a table with strangers and eat, and met some nice folks from Quebec. Overall, the price point is good, and the food is exceptionally fresh. This was one of the best small family run Sushi experiences I have had in year.

Protip: Try to get a friend to come here early to put their name down first, especially if one of you guys are still looking for parking. Came here on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Restaurant is small to begin with. You have to write your name and party size down yourself and wait for the hostess to call your name. She does NOT go outside so make sure you constantly check back if you decide to wait outside. She skips over names really fast if she doesn’t hear a response. Ordered the baked eggplant(a must!), bbq salmon roll, fotomaki, and the pressed sushi. Also got a bunch of nigiri including toro and hamachi. They run out of a lot of things by the end of the night. The futomaki ingredients were replaced with other vegetables without notice. The waitress should’ve probably told us when we ordered! The rolls here are the cheapest I’ve ever seen. Easy to find street parking. In a weird neighborhood but I don’t live in Vancouver so its probably just weird to me.

It’s been a long time since the last time I decided to go line up to get food as I believe in value of time and don’t want to waste it. Anyways, when a couple of friends suggested to try this place out I decided to give it a go. Upon arrival we had to put our name on a piece of paper taped to the wall, which felt very 90’s as we can launch a missile from our phones nowadays! We decided to go across the street and have a drink before our name is announced. This is a hole in the wall place and the tables are placed very close to each other so not much of an ambiance here. The décor is very bland and not much to look at and service was just average. We shared a bunch of items, tuna tataki, toro sashimi, california roll and a few others but none blew me away. Overall as a sushi aficionado I can name at least half a dozen places with same quality that don’t require a long line up. Overall I wasn’t impressed and won’t be returning anytime soon.

Everyone talks about how awesome this sushi restaurant is and you know what, they are right. If you are a true Sushi lover than you will no doubt appreciate the long wait times to get in here because the food is amazingly done. The chef’s here at Toshi’s definitely put time into their final product and customers here get an experience more than anything else. The sushi is fresh and you can definitely taste a difference between this restaurant and a Sushi California. With that being said I love sushi, but I have to admit that my appreciation for«Fresh» fish is not significant enough for me to be a regular customer here. I tried a very popular Box Roll with fresh cuts of fish which was around $ 9 and it nice, but I would certainly not order it again. Arguably, I am not the sushi expert of the Lower Mainland yet the bottom line is, an expensive price tag on Nigiri or Roll Sushi does not always mean it’s going to be outstanding. I have had mind-blowing rolls from Sushi Garden and Sushi California that would easily beat out the experience I had at Toshi’s. Now I would absolutely recommend anyone who loves sushi to Toshi’s this restaurant out at least once and order the Baked Cod, Eggplant dish and certainly the Nigiri here, which tastes amazing.

Solid 3.75. I’m too clever to wait this long for food, that’s 45min taken away from me that I can’t get back lol. So I called ahead, sorta, on a Friday nite 5pm and already a 1-hour pickup time, so luckily, I kept busy… Ordered: *tuna tataki: a winner *toro sashimi: another winner *house roll: ok *dynamite roll: better slightly *negitoro roll: even better Very fresh, top 5. But for the traditional rolls, as they don’t have the crazy signature rolls like at Korean & Chinese joints, TS is rather plain. and here’s a bummer: they don’t even make their own tamago!(i asked… don’t blame them…) For the quality, yes… for value, time to wait, just a 3 star. Restaurant already filled up, so being authentic in this area, Toshi is clever, he should jack up the prices easily by 10%, and even if business drops by 10%, he actually will come out ahead — in his wallet.

I am told that Toshi’s has basically had a line out the door since the moment they opened, and I can see why. If you’re looking for an incredible meal with quality sushi, Toshi’s is the way to go. I enjoyed a late dinner at Toshi’s on Saturday night… After a wait of about 20 – 30 minutes, my party of three was seated and oh so excited to dig our chopsticks into some fresh fish and seafood. I started with a seaweed salad and my party shared an order of miso eggplant, tempura sweet potato, and ahi tuna as well. Everything was delicious but that eggplant was to die for… highly recommended! We then feasted on a ton of maki, sashimi, and nigiri. My favorites were the boxed sushi roll, the spicy scallop maki, and the unagi nigiri, but everything that was put in front of us was devoured. If you find yourself anywhere close to Toshi’s and you want a quality meal, you cannot go wrong here. I just wish I lived closer and could visit more often!
