I’ve been to Sal y Limon a few times now and its now my favorite place for tacos. It’s just like the tacos in Mexico and i love the originality of the place. Giving it a four star just because of the long line ups otherwise its a great place.

I FINALLY checked out Sal y Limón after wanting to try for such a long time. We were not disappointed. I ordered the taco combo and tried two chicken, one pork and one beef taco with a side of guacamole and coleslaw, with a guava juice to drink. The tacos were great — especially the pork & pineapple was juicy and delicious. The guacamole on top was delicious. I liked the dressing on the coleslaw; it was a generous side portion. The guava juice was great. My husband ordered the chicken burrito which was«very tasty.» He said he wants to return next weekend for dinner again! It was super busy in the place on Sunday at 5:30 pm but the line moved quickly, service was fast and we got a table for 7 people, too. Our total bill for two was under $ 30; the prices are reasonable. There is so much choice on the menu we will definitely have to return and try some other Mexican treats. Muy bueno!

I have been to Sal y Limón around five times now, after having found it recently. I go there for the tacos, which it something I really like, although I have always been more used to the American type of taco(the kind one finds at Taco Bell or similar), and they serve the traditional Mexican type here. The traditional type of taco is not better or worse, in my opinion, than the American type, just different. It has two soft tortillas stacked flat, onions, cilantro, and various choices of meat. They are also smaller than the American type, although here, they seem bigger compared to other traditional tacos I’ve seen. When I’ve tried the carne asada(beef), it seemed a bit tough. I prefer the pollo pibil(one type of chicken) and the barbacoa de cordero(lamb). – What I ordered today – Taco, barbacoa de cordero — 3 x $ 2.25 Taco, pollo pibil — 1 x $ 2.25 Guacamole — 1 x $ 2.00 Total — $ 11.00 plus tax – The food – The tacos are very good, albeit sometimes a bit soggy. To prevent them being more soggy, I recommend only adding the salsa to each taco just before eating that taco. They also get very full when adding guacamole and salsa, so I tend to eat about a quarter of the filling with a fork to make room for all the sauce that I add. They have nine different salsas to try. Out of the ones I’ve tried, I like the«arbol» salsa. – The service – The type of service is semi-waiter service, that is, you order at the counter, take a numbered marker, and they bring the food to your table when ready. The seem to be quite busy often, so the food can take a while to be ready. Salsas and tap water is available at another counter. The staff I’ve dealt with have been friendly and helpful. If you order take away, they have pagers so you can wander around outside if you want, and it will ring when your food is ready. – The ambience – Sal y Limón is somewhat noisy, but I think this leans a lot more towards lively than obnoxious. They have Mexican music and a bunch of Mexican style art on the walls. – Cleanliness – I haven’t noticed any problems with cleanliness. The plates tend to have a sheet of wax paper between them and the food, so even if something was left on the plate, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve always passed by this place driving towards downtown or main st. Thought this place looked cheap and disgusting from the outside. I decided to go one day and got a burrito. Has changed my view on Mexican food. Love the salsa selection. Horchata amazing. Self serve but I don’t even mind. I eat half of the beef burrito and pack up the rest for lunch the next day. SOGOOD. UGH. JUSTGOOOOOO. 10 bucks per meal basically. Very good price. Parking here is messed up so come early or park on the street if you can.

Can have long lineups. You enter, stand in line, order your meal and pay, find a seat and your food is brought to you. Check out the salsas at the side and smother on to your food. Jalapeño sauce was good. Grab your plastic cutlery from the table near the window. Pretty good tacos. They only serve pop, some juice and Corona. No margaritas here.

I had the beef quesadillas, they were really good! I tried two salsa’s and really liked the hot one. Stole a bite from hubs dinner too, everything was fresh and flavourful. My only complaint, we ordered churro’s and after waiting 20 minutes(at the dead of the evening, no one was making food anymore just cleaning) went to ask about them and they said they forgot. Then they arrive and they are so hard on the outside that our plastic cutlery broke trying to saw into them. On the inside they were raw, gooey batter. Very disappointing end unfortunately, but steer clear of dessert and I think you will be happy overall! :)

Was excited to, once again, come and get my go to burrito: the cochinita pibil. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the standards that I’m used to. The meat was dry and tasted nothing like my previous visits. I went to confirm that I got the right order and they gave me some of the meat to compare with my dish. It was the same but I swear it wasn’t cochinita pibil. With remorse, I ate what I had and mentioned it to one of the owners who had expressed concern, saying the dish was one of his favourites as well. I didn’t stick around to discuss it further as it was very busy for him and I didn’t want anything from it except to express the need for consistency. That said, I will come back in the near future to see if the standards have gotten back to where they should be. Please don’t let me down again, Sal Y Limon

Small shop located right in the corner plaza on Kingsway and Fraser. The parking lot is terrible but there are a lot of free street parking. I ordered various tacos and burrito wraps which I loved! The food is flavourful and good sized portions — tacos may look small but it’s filling. The chorizo and lamb tacos are amazing! They have these colourful drinks in a glass which I would highly recommend. You order first and they would bring the food out to your table and clear the tables… definitely need to give tips :) The workers are friendly and efficient — usually a line up but I never had to wait for long. People are normally in and out really quickly as it’s set up as a fast food place. Would highly recommend anyone to visit this place if they haven’t done so already.

Top tier Vancouver Tacos I remember this place when if was a smaller venue next door I think. Coming here in its new décor was an incredible upgrade from its humble origins. Line ups exist but relatively fast moving. The menu is full Mexican fare. I used to come for tacos, but it appears burritos are also a popular choice. I can’t speak to those items, but they look good. The décor is trendy and the live DJ would suggest these guys are just making straight bank… Anyways the tacos I ordered 6, but there’s about approximately 15 other options to choose from. Can be combo’d with a side dish and each taco can have cheese added on for a small fee. Spicy pork is wonderful. A spicy kick and messy. The lamb is nice and gamey(not for everyone). The beef tongue is tender, but the least flavorful among my choices. I still really liked it. Maybe eat this one first. The shrimp taco was surprising as it was a pretty big piece of shrimp… none of that popcorn shrimp. The cream on top was a nice touch. The fish taco. Ah. so nice. Lightly battered fish. It’s a nice light crust… panko bread crumbs maybe? Anyways a solid choice I have to say the shrimp one was my fav Easily one of my favourite taco joints in the city. Bit of a taco conspiracy rant: I also want to point out they have a trophy for best tacos in Vancouver. Here’s a funny thing… all the tacos were under $ 3. If the ‘best’ taco joint in Vancouver is charging me $ 3, why are other places charging me over that price point? Come on guys, step your game up and model after this little Mexican gem in the city.

I’m giving this place a full«mark». I like the Mexican authenticity and prices. There’s Mexican salsa type music, and a happy atmosphere overall. It seems to always be busy as well. No doubt it’s due to the delicious food and low prices. $ 2.25/taco! I ordered two soft tacos– one was filled with spicy pork and the other was with fish & salsa. Both tasted good! For those who lean more on spicy tastes, there is a counter of sauces you can choose from, ranging from jalapeño, chipotle and peanut to 5 other types of sauces. I tried the jalapeño & chipotle… yum! Also, there are plastic cutlery, cups & water as well as napkins on the side counter should you need extras for handling your food. I will definitely return. There are more soft tacos to be sampled, along with quesadillas or other Mexi-fare. If you desire beer with your tacos like I do, they have bottles of corona & modelo. Also, be wary if you don’t like the sound of children coz there are some present.

I had driven by so many times and read such great reviews on this place, so finally tried it. Parking was easy in the neighborhood and only a small line up to order at 6pm. The food was tasty and the salsa bar was so cool. Wanted to try all the sauces! The tacos were all yummy, the lamb, pastor, vegetarian, tripe. The tortilla soup was good but was only room temperature which was really disappointing. Washed everything down with a glass of horchata and rolled out of there with a full bellie. Will be back to try more

Always good soft tacos here. There was a new flavor, tripe, so went for that along with the super vegetarian; you have to buy these minimum of two at $ 3 each. Both were tasty and nicely grilled. Tried the new rum Horchata, nice twist! My friend was offered the combo at the other cashier they opened up when it got busy. I didn’t know there was a choice of a combo and my cashier didn’t ask. No table service, order and pay at counter. Constant flow of people ordering up front. Adequate seating area. Help yourself to water and plastic cutlery. All the different salsas are near the front so bring your food with you. Someone is regularly clearing tables.

Amazing restaurant even better after recent renovations. I love this place but I used to loath coming here because of the lineups stretching out the door. That has all changed since Sal y Limon has expanded into the neighboring unit. Now, there is almost three times the seating, and many more employees cranking out Mexican food at a faster rate. This is terrific news because it took less than 10 minutes from the moment I stepped in to when I sank my teeth into a burrito. The burritos are extremely dense and filling, just how I like them. I have been systematically trying the different types over the last year: beef, sausage, chicken, pork, etc… They all taste amazing! Still haven’t gotten around to the lamb and fish, but I will in the next visit. Their tacos are equally awesome, but you will likely need to order 3 – 5 to be full. The most amazing thing about Sal y Limon is their self-serve Salsa bar. You get to choose from a variety of freshly made salsas. And, they are all hot and spicy. Even the mildest is sure to make the average guy sweat. Don’t even try the hottest ones such as the El Diabla unless you’ve written your last will and testament. The only complain I ever had about Sal y Limon was the long lines and slow service. That has all been rectified so they get a perfect 5-star rating from me. They even have a play area for kids, which makes this place kid friendly.

Been here 3 times now and we love it! Usually when we come to this little mall area on Fraser, we are here to stop by Ba Le and grab some Vietnamese subs(our favourites!) but we had noticed Sal y Limon and were always curious about it. Glad we finally went in! It’s a lot bigger inside than it looks like from the outside. Grab a menu when you step in and line up to place your order, and then they will give you a number to bring it to your table. We’ve tried the burritos before but our faves so far are the tacos. I haven’t tried too many of the other taco joints popping up all over the city, but these were great! Good flavours, decent portion size(cheese is extra). We ordered the guac dip to add to them and it was nice and creamy. Usually we are too full, but wanted something extra on our last visit so we ordered the churros. One order = 1 churro, so of course we ordered one each. They were piping hot, freshly deep fried, well coated with sugar(hate it when they miss spots!), drizzled with lots of chocolate sauce. Initially we thought they were undercooked inside as they seemed doughy, but then realized they were filled with a caramel/dulche de leche type sauce inside. Amazing. I’m a big churro fan and usually not into anything extra on mine, I like it plain but this one was very good. Hard to find churros around! Sal y Limon has plenty of tables available, pretty quick service, lots of sauces for you to try(although some people hog them on their tables instead of putting them back), there’s free parking in the area although the parking lot is small, street parking is also available, there’s even a play area for kids. There is only one washroom although it’s large and has a baby change station.

Best mexican food in town — hands down! Stumbled upon this gem two years ago and it’s my go-to place for mexican food. You can order anything off their menu and not be disappointed. My boyfriend usually orders the burritos and I usually get the tortas or a mix of a few tacos. Amazing value for the amount of food you’re paying for and even better since it’s jam packed with delicious spices. They have a range of salsas and sauces to accompany their already super flavourful dishes — just be careful which ones you use and how much you put on your food — a few of them are extremely spicy. It’s family run and everyone running the show is extremely nice, you can definitely tell that they work hard to make sure the food is consistent. Would recommend trying everything on the menu — my favourite is the cordaro al cilantro(torta), any of the tacos and the horchatas(cinnamon spice mix milk drink) is a MUST(especially if you use the wrong hot sauce .)!

I got the carne asada burrito, which was a bit over $ 9 after tax. Overall, the burrito was yummy and satisfying but it could definitely be improved. Since the ingredients were dumped in one after another, the meat was all lumped together on one side whereas the veggies were all lumped together on the other side, with rice in the middle. The burrito itself has a large diameter, so with every bite I pretty much had to choose between rice, meat, and veggies. Naturally I gravitated towards the meat, leaving an awkward amount of loose veggies hanging around on the cusp of falling away. Pretty frustrating. I would have preferred a more entropic distribution of ingredients so each bite would have a more varied and interesting flavour. Be warned — it is very busy at dinnertime. You will find yourself surrounded by vancouverites from all walks of life, whether it’s scrappy locals or hyper-privileged white people wearing their arcteryx jackets to eat Mexican. Good luck and have fun!

To be fair, I am not too familiar with Mexican food, so take my word with a grain of salt :) I went to here with my family for some tacos and burritos. We got a mix n’ match of all varieties, so I can’t name them, but everyone in my enjoyed them. I was impressed by how helpful the staff was, especially the middle-aged gentleman who was helping me choose my food. Not only that, we received the wrong order(it could have been our fault… couldn’t figure out who got it wrong) and the staff promptly made us a new order without any fuss. I’ll definitely go again for the awesome food and friendly service!

This place expanded! Same great food, great prices and now even bigger so you are more likely to find a seat. They have a little play area for children which is nice as well if you wanted to bring the kiddies. Great spot. You have to bus your own tables– and use those little numbers to have your food brought to you. Very low key spot. The sauces on the side to add to your meal are basically the best part of it all. I love the«Chef» sauce.

If you love the tacos at Taqueria, you must try Sal y Limon. Same idea, but greasier(in a good way) and a bigger menu. Lamb and chorizo tacos are excellent — get them with cheese if your diet allows! Their burritos are huge and filling, big portion sizes. Their horchata is quite sweet, which is a good offset to their sauces. Their sauces are seriously great. Be wary of the Diabla, it’s very hot and lives up to its name. Sometimes you have to wait quite a while to get your food, especially if the line is long when you get there. They’ve expanded their location now and have many more seats, but the kitchen seems to be the same size. Overall though, the food is really good. Savory and satisfying. And staff are friendly! It’s definitely worth trying.

Tacos($ 2.25 each or $ 2.75 each with cheese) Beef = 3⁄5 Chicken = 3⁄5 Spicy Pork = 4⁄5 Pork and Pineapple = 5⁄5 would eat again and again Cubana XL Torta (turkey, pork, and beef sandwich $ 9) This thing is giant and a total steal for $ 9 when you compare to the dinky sandwiches you get at some hipster joints. We shared the above between 2 people and were stuffed to the max. I love their salsa/sauce bar ranging from mild to spicy as sh! t options. By the way, there’s a sign next to the sauces that shows you the range of spice levels. I missed it at first and thought«Sweet Diablo» would be sweet, holy sweet baby hot Jesus was I wrong.

This place has been on my to-try list for ages and I finally had a chance to go check it out this weekend. I was really impressed with how flavourful everything was. I ordered the carne asada con queso torta which came with a pile of grilled beef in a bun. There’s a whole jalapeño hidden within the pile of meat and for those seeking more of a kick, a bar of spicy salsas are available. The meal was inexpensive, filling and most of all, full of flavour. Be prepared for a line if going during peak hours. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their other offerings.

I enjoyed my vegan dish– and appreciative that there are lots of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. Looking forward to going back already!

This place serves decent Mexican food, but it’s not the best. If you’re craving a burrito and you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping by, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. I ordered a burrito, as did my friend. I asked for no beans on one, but we ended up with no beans on both. Not a huge deal, but I’ll clarify next time. The dipping sauces are the highlight here — try the avocado sauce especially. It’s a good mix of spicy without being too spicy. There are close to seven different dipping sauces. The redeeming quality of the food is how large the portions are. It’s impossible for me to finish an entire burrito in one sitting(I’ll eat half and bring half home). This place is recently remodeled, and the interior is very nice and clean, with lots of space to eat. It’s now great for groups, which wasn’t the case before the remodel. The restaurant serves a few different beers as well.

Solid burritos and tacos, what sets them apart from the other Mexican places in Vancouver are the sauces that they offer. The avocado sauce is my favourite to add to any burrito or taco. Lengua tacos are great here and I wished that they had cabeza as well. But this is Vancouver and we all know that Mexican cuisine isn’t really a strong point here, so I’ll take what I can get. Lots of ample seating in this restaurant, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be full after they expanded into the store next door. They also have tortas here but I haven’t ever tried one. For Vancouver Mexican food, this place is probably better than most but I enjoy the tacos at La Taqueria more.

Went to this place expecting a lot and left really dissapointed. As someone who lived off authentic Mexican food for a long time growing up(I’m a Californian ok?), this was really sad. I’m really sad that Vancouver just doesn’t do Mexican food right. The flavors were not there and a lot of the tacos were just bland and extremely«meh». Service was also a disappointment as the entire staffs were pretty cold and not very responsive to questions about their menu. I was really excited about their lamb tacos and was really disappointed when the meat was overcooked. For their dishes with cheese that my friends had, they really skimped on the meat and cheese and everyone was just disappointed. The food was underwhelming and their drinks were just awful. The horchata had no flavor, couldn’t even taste the cinnamon. Prices are acceptable. I would not recommend this place is you are looking for authentic Mexican food! It’s fine if you are into texmex. Also, I’m a huge fan of churros and theirs was really terrible… It seemed like it was from Costco and over fried. Rather go to Chipotle, and that’s just sad.

Hecho en Mexico has a new fan. It’s a semi-fast food joint, with lots of seating in a tiny strip mall on the corner of Fraser and Kingsway. Solid fare, low prices and variety to keep you coming back. The burritos are huge and have just the right amount of rice, cabbage, and delicious fillings, most of them between $ 7.50 and $ 8.50. The tortilla soup is a gold star, and only $ 2.75. The pozole could have been slightly better. I think I only had one piece of hominy corn in mine. In addition to the burritos, there are torta sandwiches and tacos, with toppings/fillings such as carne asada, lamb, chorizo, huevos, pulled pork, pollo asado, and my favourite, al pastor. They carry many flavours of cold Mexican sodas. Try the sauces galore as well. Mix and match. Leave full.

Came back to try the tacos again since the last time I came here was over 2 years ago. I wasn’t that impressed the first time here but my opinion has definitely changed. The restaurant is more than double the size and the décor has been upgraded and very clean. Ordered our tacos and found a seat. They give you a number and then bring you the food. Tacos are delicious and very generous on the meat. Tried 6 different tacos and all were delicious. Selected the combo for $ 3.75 extra and got tortilla chips and coconut horchata. All delicious. Have to say I think it’s the best place in town. My Mexican friends swear that this place is pretty authentic. Will definitely be back. Food took a while to come out — approx 20 – 30 minutes but worth the wait. They have a play area for kids. They also take credit cards. The complimentary Hi Chew candies are dope too.

This place has hands down some of the best tacos in the city. If you’re looking for some authentic style cheap tacos look no further. At around 2.50 a taco these are the bomb. It’s not a big place but it’s not always super packed either the times I have gone. If you’re craving tacos and in the area come by. However if you’re looking for fusion tacos. or specialty ones you will want to go to tacofino or cuchillo. Thinking of this place makes me wanna go

Best Mexican food in town? One of the best food places in town? This place hits a straight home run on all accounts: delicious food, amazingly affordable prices, wide range of offerings, you name it. Tacos: We tried chicken and lamb tacos, and both were good, though I personally found them a little pricey. Quality-wise I would say it is slightly inferior to the ones you would find at La Taqueria. A little more lemon added here and a tad more salsa there and it might have even beaten LT to pole position!(Without the salsa it tasted slightly dry) Huarache with slow roasted chicken: Top of the game! The cheese, the black beans, the toppings, the jalepenos, man, it was such an orgy in the mouth! :D Enchiladas: Does not matter if you have tried this dish before or not, you should surely try it here. It’s delish, and they present it in a visually appealing way. Burrito: Again, top notch. I’ve tried other burrito places like Budgies Burritos, and nothing comes close to this. We ordered the pulled pork burrito, and man was it good and huge portioned! We made it a combo with the Huarache by ordering chicken soup and horchata(traditional beverage) with it. The soup was well seasoned, the cinamon spiced horchata was lovely. This place gets super crowded. Here’s how it works, you order at the counter, they give you a small numbered flag to carry to your table, and after short while your flag is replaced with yummilicious food. There was line up at the counter to order food. The service is quick and friendly. They have water jugs and glasses at one corner of the restaurant. On another corner they had a variety of dips that people could choose from, and there was never a time when people were not lining up to more of the dips. :) N.B: Has anyone else noticed the multiple death themed paintings on the wall? :)

So, the first time I ever took note of this place, was when i saw a hUGE line up going out the door. So I made a mental note to try it one day. Then someone said _______was better than here, so I wrote it off. Then my friend from out of town(with a baby) wanted to come dine here as there is a play area for kids here !(tip to those with kiddies)! So we came here. My friend was haangggry so we kinda ordered as we were 15 minutes earlier than our friends. 6pm –line wasn’t too bad. The inside of the restaurant was 1⁄3 full. Fifteen minutes later, however, the line balooned and the restaurant was PACKED. To order took them maybe 10+ minutes, but this is a testament to how good the food was. My friend ordered the«mega sal y limon» tortas. It is a hard cornbread base, then all teh toppings are a mini mountain on top. She loved it. She also ordered a chunky salsa-at first i thought it was guac(cuz it is green) but she explained to me that it doesn’t really taste like avocado because it is the salsa. Also I ordered a QUESO Y POLLOPIBIL! THISWAS delish. I thought that we’d go back to order more food after(such as some tacos) but we were so full that we didn’t have to order more. Good for dates, groups, alone, chill. It’s like a order then sit down and eat place. I’d come back! i also enjoyed their cutlery(the fork is like a mini shovel), their bounty of sauces and the flair of the restaurant(decorations and art galore– it reminded me of my years in Spanish class 10 – 12).

Yummy! This place came at the recommendation from others who has high praises for the food. Dragonboy and I came here on a Saturday afternoon right before noon. The menu is quite extensive but we stuck with the tacos. I had the fish, chicken and pork and he had beef, chorizo and pulled pork pineapple. We also got the combo with corn chips and added a side of guac(must get!) We liked the beef and fish tacos the best. Pulled pork was way too oily it made too hard to eat. We also ordered cheese on each taco which I highly recommend. The chicken and the chorizo were a bit dry in my opinion. Would definitely come back to try the other foods. Was really impressed with the dining area — lots of places to sit and even a play area for kids. There is a whole lineup of hot sauces on the side which definitely adds a ton of kick. Food took a while to be served which is why I’m taking off one star. Other than that, food was fantastic, the space was comfortable, and lots of parking on the street. Will definitely be coming back!

Even if you don’t have a taco at LEAST try a cinnamon horchata drink. Holy crap its like a churro in a cup. Seriously damn good. But seeing as I did try a number of tacos I will share my experience. The tacos tried between myself and Dragongirl were as follows: beef, chicken, pulled pork, chorizo, pork with pineapple, and fish. It seemed like both the chicken taco and pork with pineapple were overcooked and dry. We added cheese to all of them and even with the cheese these ones were dry. The pulled pork was incredibly oily and would have made top 3 if it werent for the waterfall of oil gushing out the back of the taco. Now to the good stuff. Chorizo was good, interesting that it was chopped up so fine almost like coarse ground pepper. But the taste was overall pretty good. But the win for me ended in a tie between the fish taco and the beef taco. The fish was perfectly fried and a generous portion at that! It was well seasoned and didn’t require any additional sauces. The beef was surprisingly delicious. I mean yes, its the most plain taco order you could get and I’m sure people avoid it just because its such an ordinary sounding dish. But do NOT underestimate this taco. It was moist, flavourful, and damn near one of the best tacos I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Go get it. Seriously. Go. Now. And get a cinnamon horchata with it and thank me later. After writing all that I want another one… might just do it too…

I’m just going to say it: Vancouver needs better Mexican food. I have been searching and have yet to find anything as good as what I’ve eaten in the US. So when I saw that Sal Y Limon had awesome reviews on Unilocal,I thought I’d give them another chance. Last time I was there was shortly after they opened, pre-renos. The food was average but not worth returning. Post-renos, they’re a lot bigger, have more space for tables, a kid’s play area as well as two benches for people waiting for take out. But the food! The food is still the same. The burrito was below average, lacking flavor and bordered on being too dry. For tacos, I tried fish, al pastor, and carne asada. Sadly, the meat was really dry and the fish was extremely battered(I wish the menu said that the fish was breaded. I was hoping for grilled). Worst of all, there was hardly any cilantro and no lime. I know they have an ample salsa bar but still. Cilantro and lime are two condiments for any taco. Also something a bit strange: when we asked for a side of chips they asked if we wanted corn or potato. Potato chips at a Mexican restaurant? Oh Vancouver. While we were there we saw that they had tons of patrons. Lots of people eating in and many take out orders. I don’t get it.
