I’m not commenting on the food. I’m commenting on the service, or lack of it. I waited at the counter for over 5 minute for someone to acknowlege me. There were 3 people working behind and one cashier. Only the cashier was serving a customer. The other 3 were too busy talking to each other. I actually asked if someone could serve me, but was ignored. And yes, I said it loudly. The cashier helped me after, but he was soooo slow. It was 8:30 am. Do these people realize that their customers are dropping in to get coffee etc. on their way to work? At that point there was 6 people in line. The woman behind me also commented on how slow and lacking the services was. Finally one of the other three workers standing behind the counter stepped in. This is not the first time I’ve had issues with getting service here. Makes me wonder why I keep coming back.

Great food, but you may die of hunger waiting for their service. Worth the wait, if you have the time.

I go for the cinnamon buns. They are worth ruining your diet for and the hours at the gym you’ll need to work it off. Don’t bother making a new year’s resolution to eat better until you’ve had one of these. The bagels are also really really good, I’ve only had better from Montréal.

If you can look past the filthy sandwich bar and nonexistent customer service, the menu looks pretty delicious. After walking up the counter where you are supposed to order and being ignored, I asked if I was in the right place. The girl behind the counter said«ya hold on» I got the veggie sandwich on bagel and spicy black bean soup. The soup was delicious. The sandwich looked really yummy, until I found tuna all over the bottom. As a vegetarian, I wasn’t too impressed. I decided to to pick that part off and continue, having spent $ 13 for a sandwich and small cup of soup. Then I found the mouldy cucumber. At that point I went to the counter and let them know. They were not terribly concerned but did offer to remake the sandwich which I declined, having lost my appetite. Did I mention the girl making the sandwiches wasn’t wearing a hair net or gloves? Or that she was touching her hair and not washing her hands before making the next sandwich? Won’t go back. Obvs.

Decided to pay a visit to Solly’s «Authentic Jewish Eatery» in Mount Pleasant. It was a nice little place on the border between West and East-end Vancouver, although the staff there were mostly Asian and has no idea about Jewish culture. I asked if they close early for Shabbat, or when Hanukkah falls this year and they had no clue what I was talking about. The person who took my order was VERY friendly, but the woman behind the cash was rude, taking a phone call in the middle of our transaction, and she didn’t seem to speak much English. Ordered a simple bagel and lox, and got a bagel, lox, capers, a lemon wedge and a small bag of chips. Everything seemed quite pleasant, but definitely more«Jewish-style» rather than Jewish. Also, the bagels are western-style, not Montréal/New York-style, and this REALLY disappointed me. Took home some matzo ball soup to my daughter, and she loved it. Plus, it lacked the ambiance of Jewish businesses I’ve become used to from my childhood in Montréal. Other than that, it was as close to authentic Jewish atmosphere as I’ve seen in Vancouver. The food gets 4⁄5 The staff gets 2⁄5 The ambiance gets 3⁄5 I’ll rate Solly’s an overall 3⁄5 and urge people to give it a try. I enjoyed it just fine… but I wish the cashier was less rude.

Solly’s Jewish Bakery! The best I know(although it’s also the only one I know… not that that’s a bad thing they goods!) Solly’s has great beagles and soup! I have a Jewish friend whose mom has been kind enough to make me that chicken meatball soup and Solly’s comes to close to that home cookin! The yellow splite pea soup is also super tasty and their turkey sandwiches are pretty hefty. The bad? Well nothing’s really outstanding. I loved their cottage cheese muffins, but i’ve noticed they’ve gradually shrunk in size and now… well its not the same! Overalll a good place to check out and eat for soup and sandwich!

Really good bagels and sandwiches. I like coming here because it is super delicious. Although the service isn’t the greatest. Some of the staff are really nice but the others are okay. I came here once about half an hour before closing and I remember this one lady really rushed me… It was actually pretty rude and I ate really fast so she could leave sooner. She must have wanted to leave pretty bad or something. The garbage is ALWAYS extremely full and falls all over the floor. The staff are also really slow. I don’t know if I just came on an off day but when 4 people are waiting in line for like 10 min that just seems off. This place really is good but they need to switch up a few lazy staff members or a little more help.

Use to love the apple slice. Definitely not as good as they use to be. Crust isn’t as nice. Bagels are average and nothing special. Pretty pricey place to eat.

All my favourite comfort foods in one location: knishes, bagels, babka, rugelach, apple strudel, matzah ball soup. *insert mental imagine of Homer Simpson drooling here* Solly’s features all the best of Jewish comfort food. They have a few locations throughout Vancouver and the food is consistently good at all of them. What I like about this particular location is that there is enough room to sit and enjoy your food with others as there are several tables that can accommodate groups of 2 – 6 people, unlike their other locations where you can barely fit 6 people into the entire store. That said, this location has something the others don’t, an unnecessarily complicated ordering system. In the other Solly’s, you go up to the counter, place your order and pay. However at this location, you have to place your order at different parts of the counter depending on what you want. Deli items such as soups and sandwiches have be ordered from the far right side of the counter while coffee, pastries or cold items are ordered on the left side of the counter at the till. This set up is not self-apparent and can be frustrating for first time customers. Despite this, it’s still one of my all-time favourite shops in Vancouver and my go to place for baked goods.

Wanted to have a causal bagel and soup Sunday lunch. The old lady behind the counter so hectic and kept yelling. The bald staff gave no services! This place used to be very good. Now bagels become much smaller. Not a good Sunday experience!

Came here on a rainy Sunday. Not too busy but hv steady traffic. This older lady I’m assuming the owner starts screaming at their staff for not doing things correctly. We ordered two salmon spread cream cheese bagel and a soup. They usually bring it out to us. Waited for at 20 mins. I see My bagels was ready at the counter. It was sitting at the counter for over 10 mins. So I went over to the counter and said I can take these. The guy behind the counter said its not ready yet because we also ordered a soup. So I waited another 5 min. Finally took the order to us. The bagel was cold as I do like it toasted warm. To sum up, if you want to see drama on a Sunday. Come to solly and see.

This little joint is a jewel in the rough. Amazing bagels and Jewish food. Love popping in on a rainy day for some mozzarella ball soup or for an egg and salami breakfast bagel and coffee. Solly’s won’t disappoint.

They claim to have the best bagels in town, although they were good, I still would rather drive to Mt Royal for my bagel fix. They come with an incredible amount of cream cheese though, I don’t know how they manage to pack the hole so full of cheese it is actually raised… But they do, cream cheese witchcraft. The iced drinks come with umbrellas, which was a hit with the kids and they bring the food to your table, which is a nice touch. The have a little toy box too, so this is a decent place to stop and sit with the wee ones and stay a while.

Really like the ambiance here and its quite close to the gym that I go to. Great for me to get a quick snack but also dangerous with all the goodies here. I like how there’s ah outside patio too. Its really chill. People are nice and have a wide variety of selections. Would like to try some their sandwiches for breakfast.

When I’m in the area and in the mood for a cup of joe and a warm treat, Solly’s is my go-to place! My top picks are between their Knish’s and their cinnamon buns. definitely can’t go wrong with either! I think it’s pretty cool how they give you those giant cups when you order a Latte or a London Fog

Well… I found out that their bagels are pretty soft and warm NOW! Like 10x then before… But I’m not too impress with their egg-bagel breakfast. They warm-it up properly the stuff. No doubt. But I don’t know… The eggs was warm in up well… But… In a plastic container I believe… Anyway… The eggs was GOOD and FRESH… So I will come back for trying their veggies meat balls. And ‘soupe du jour.” Last time the ”chaudree” of mushroom was looking so whammy. They keep it warm in a big pan. Purfect. ;)

Value priced Jewish-«ish» food to satisfy gentiles who are not from back east. Eggel de Lox is nice, nothing fancy, simple tasty cream cheese based fare. Challah french toast is passable, but«topped with strawberries» apparently means jam-like dipping sauce in a small plastic container on the side which may contain possibly but not necessarily up to one strawberry, finely chopped. Service is alright when not busy, otherwise hit or miss. Come with tempered expectations and enjoy the kitsch. Would have rated 4 if I were just rating the cinnamon buns, a guilty take-out pleasure.

4.5÷5 Wow these bagels are amazing! I’ve always wanted to try Solly’s but it’s a bit out of the way for me so I didn’t get the chance eat one until my coworker brought a dozen into work the other day with a whole tub of their famous dill cream cheese! I was so happy that I ended up eating an entire bagel smothered with cream cheese while everybody else only had a quarter or half! Anyways, we have a mini toaster oven in our office so I cut the bagel horizontally in half and toasted it before smothering it in the dill cream cheese. I can honestly say that this bagel was just as good as the delicious ones that I have eaten in Montréal and in New York! I am tempted to give them 5⁄5 but I feel that their prices are a bit high(based on the website) and I’m not sure how often I would want to eat such a heavy breakfast item(or lunch I guess!) I would definitely recommend trying this place(I think there are multiple locations) and if I ever get the chance to physically go there myself, I want to try their giant cinnamon buns!
