Space Lab is easily my favourite vintage/antique/custom furnishings shop to visit in and around Vancouver. Stock is always changing, environment is fun and always interesting and the owner has an incredible historical knowledge of design and goods.

I love antique wooden boxes. I have an obsession with wooden boxes that are odd and old. My dad used to find and give me wooden boxes. My dad also used to take me to Lumber Land back in the day and get spray paint to paint my boxes. I never kept anything in these boxes which used to annoy the f*ck out of him. I just collected these boxes. I found a box here that looked EXACTLY like the first box my dad said that I could buy with my own allowance that was sold at a nearby garage sale in Champlain Heights. I carved my initials on the back with a butter knife. Shortly after my dad passed I got rid of a few things as a process of healing. The box came back to me last year. I looked on the bottom of the box and it had my initials N.B. & R.B. N. B is my full real name(Shila is a shortened version of my extended name). R. B was the name of my bunny rabbit named Roman. Of course the B was ’cause my rabbit was one of the family and I felt that it should take our last name. My rabbit was brown and since we’re brown by default my dad thought that it was one of us. My dad had an obsession with putting dates on EVERYTHING materialistic. He wrote a date on the bottom of the box. I still recognize to this day my dad’s handwriting. This made me believe that things happen for a reason. The box itself wasn’t expensive and I never bothered to ask where the box came from(how they got it in the store). This was my regret.

Definitely never going back to this place again. The owner with a thick beard thought I heard his name might’ve been Clint was obviously inebriated when I was there. Saying a few very rude comments to customers. Some of the crap that was in his store was completely overpriced. A couple sketchy people showed up selling him what was obviously stolen goods. Paid them $ 10 for what I found in the front of the store priced for $ 100 crazy ! Although there might of been some cool things in the store, none of it was functional at all.
