Sadly, Feb 22nd will be their last day. Driving by here and seeing their balloons, thought there was a joyous occasion but Stong’s bought up entire block but let’s digress… Some good deals to be had here, 25% off seems to be average, and 40% in the last week. Boys LEGO sets, cars, on the left, with little clothing. Good selection for puzzles, games but not much for stuffed animals. Loss for my nieces and nephews haha. Small play section in the back.

The games selection at this store alone is enough for me to never return to Toys R Us ever again. The selection seems to be aimed only at younger kids and there is quite a selection to choose from, tons that I’ve never seen at any Toys R Us or Granville Island store. There are a lot of toys set up around the store for kids to try out like a Thomas the train table and a marble track. Most importantly there is enough room to walk and browse. So many toy stores have displays blocking the aisles, which I find super frustrating. The staff are super friendly and showed my son how to play with some of the toys and they weren’t too busy to answer our questions. I will have to make my way out here more often for birthday, Christmas and«just because» gifts!

I am 31 years old, however, I’m not ashamed to say that I love my toys. I found the prices for the area very reasonable and cheaper than some other indie toy shops. So what did I buy you ask… I bought a pack of marbles ’cause I keep losing mine at work. My crazy insane working days have caused me loose my marbles, therefore, I bought a pack. I put them in a jar on my desk with a sign that read, «It’s Friday, loose your marbles… please take one.» On a serious note, I bought some stickers for myself. Each day I don’t feel like killing myself at work, I put a motivational star on my calendar… go me. The customer service here is awesome. It sucks that this store is in Dunbar near my best friend’s house(UBC area) ’cause I can never make it before they close during regular work hours. They have such a large selection of board games. Old school games… before ipad’s, apps and video game systems… just good board games. My best friend and I have this thing for puzzles, however, it was hard for me to convince him to buy the puzzle with puppies and kitties for us to play with. They also sell pool noodles. My best friend owes me one for losing mine at Coachella.

SPLASHROCKS! This is a great alternative to all the chains out there! Splash Toy Shop is personal and the prices are even better then at the big stores in many cases. Their staff is knowledgeable and helpful. You will not walk out without something suiting your child(in my case my nephews). This store carries quality brands like Brio, Lego and Playmobile. Really– I always feel like the staff cares about their customers. Their selection is great and if they really happen to not have an item, they will make sure to get it for you. My mom comes to visit when she is in Vancouver from Germany and she agrees, this store is able to compete with the high end European Toy Shops. I’m not much of a toy girl(let’s not go there — I’m talking about the toys kids play with), but Splash Toy Shop on Dunbar is always a fun place to go into, even if it’s only to reminisce. Splash carries a wide assortment of children’s toys, stuffed animals, board games, and learning tools. It’s also got treat bag stuffers and helium balloons. If you’re buying a gift, ask for free wrapping — it comes with ribbons, too. And check out Splash’s huge selection of board games; many of them are old-school, and you’ll surely remember playing them in the basement with your friends when you were young.
