Went for lunch and got there at 1:00. There were a few people eating but is was mostly empty. This was a Tuesday in January mind you. Service was quick, we had hummus to start and it was excellent. Came with 3 of those pita type buns which are ok. I don’t understand why greek restaurants don’t take more time with their pits. The few places ive been where they make pita in house elevates the whole experience. Its not any harder than Naan bread. I guess its time consuming but it would completely change the meal in my opinion. Next came up my calamari meal. The calamari was crisp, hot and spicy The rice was beautiful. The potatos had a hint of lime and were divine. The greek salad was excellent under dressed the way I like it. This was one hulking plate of food and not a lot of filler. It really was worth the $ 14. My friend had the large prawn skewer meal. Its exactly the same as the calamari but with prawns two skewers. When she first received it she thought the prawns were under done. I assured her they weren’t. Stephos uses precooked prawns. The prawns were hot and perfectly warmed. I think she was caught of guard by the lack of charring on the prawns which I think would have overcooked them. She said they tasted great. If you like your prawns with a little char I would ask but you might find them overcooked. Our meal was completed with flawless, speedy service. I also took home a container with enough food for a second meal. Honestly a large meal and an appy will easily fill 2 people! So all in all I thought the whole experience was great. Stephos food is as good as any 3 to 4 start greek place in town. With a few tweeks it could be exceptional! Keep in mind the line-ups start around 5:30 and don’t die down till 9:00 so be late or early if you don’t want a 30minute wait.

After all the hype I expected a bit more from Stepho’s. It was ok, but honestly I felt like it was comparable to a lot of Greek places in and around Vancouver, except for the waiting and the bill. The food was a bit over priced and nothing stood out to me despite the fact that, between my coworkers and I, we ordered ¾ of the menu! Save a few bucks and check out one of Vancouver’s many other greek venues(won’t list them here as I don’t want to seem like I’m advertising)

Contrary to the reviews Im reading just now, the service here has ALWAYS been great for me. And trust me if that was not the case I’d be calling them out on it. Portions are huge for the price point. Quality is there. Is it the best Greek food in Vancouver? Probably not. But it is super decent.

Cheap prices and good portions. Food is not incredible but very fair and tasty for the price. Decoration is very european and it makes you feel on holiday. Friendly service, I recommand.

Food is great no question on that but the service could be better. Most of the crew did not smile. Seems that they’re not happy to be there. Body language is awkward. Maybe they’re overworked, underpaid or something. I loved my lamb chops.

I’ve been going there for years, yesterday the phone was busy for 20min. I live near by, so I walked in and placed an order. The girl answers the phone as I was paying. She never gave me a number, as they usually do. Upon returning to pick up my food –the usual nice guy behind the cash asked to see my interact receipt. I’m so glad I kept it, otherwise I’d be out a dinner. Girl stood behind him silent — and now forgetful. Guess it was my responsibility she didn’t pay attention and took the call. Too bad — I liked their roast lamb. I’m out, other businesses will probably appreciate my money more.

Good Greek food. Not amazing but solid. The lamb roast was great. No wait on a Thursday evening, but the place was full.

Worst staff ever and the quality of food is terrible the calamari was dry and rubbery and tasted bitter, the lamb was chewy and tasted awful and my plate was filled with oil from the rice, the vegetables where soggy and old. I would rate this review ZERO stars. What a disappointment and waste of money :( Will not go back again and I don’t recommend this embarrassing visit to anyone!

Had a late lunch here yesterday, and realised I should write a review. Not much to add to the hundreds of existing reviews, but I will say that I always enjoy eating here. The service is very friendly and casual. Usually pretty busy during peak times, but on Monday at 3pm only every other table was occupied which was nice. The roast lamb is consistently good, and the portions are very generous. The Ek-mek was not as good as I remember it being(kinda starchy). Unfortunately couldn’t eat more than a couple bites of this. However, every other aspect of the meal was good. Total for lamb + dessert was $ 28 after tax and tip. Overall, a solid place if you’re in the mood for Greek food in a friendly/casual setting. Recommend!

I went on a weekday and surprisingly there wasn’t much of a wait. It was a bit dark inside and where we were seated was quite confined, but at least our server was funny and attentive. We got the calamari which we could done perfectly well without – the batter was falling off and it was a tad bland. I had the lamb souvlaki(one piece) and boy, that dish is huge so bring your appetite! The rice was very tasty and so were the potatoes! Didn’t have much room for the pita that came along with it, but that was soft and delicious. I didn’t find the lamb out of this world, and actually I thought I was going to fling it off the skewer and out of this world because it did not want to come off the skewer. It had a nice flavour but was chewy. All in all, it is a good Greek restaurant to hit up in the city and huge portions await you. I would go for the convivial setting in the future as I found the food just okay.

I was having one of those days where I couldn’t decide where to go for dinner so I decided to check out Stepho’s finally after passing by on many occasions. We got there about 5:45 on a weekday so luckily there was no line and we were seated right away, props on that. The waiter we had was a pretty cool guy, funny and quick with taking our orders. I myself a fan of lamb had to go for the souvlakia, I heard it was a must as well but went with a small as to my knowledge portions are big. Before I get to the food just had to mention service was extremely slow, not sure if it was due to the time or not as there was no line but we waited a good 40 minutes before out food arrived which is my only complaint for this restaurant. Other than that food was great, came out nice and hot and the lamb was perfect. Final note, I’ll probably return in the future only concern is wait times so if you’re in a rush or your stomach is grumbling and making questionable sounds like me take a pass.

I drove 1000 miles to eat here…& do other stuff. But a visit to Vancouver is never complete without having their Roast Lamb dinner! It’s probably my favorite lamb dish anywhere besides my mom’s. While the service may be mediocre at best, once the lamb arrives, I could care less. It’s a huge chunk of tender & juicy deliciousness, & falls right off the bone. It comes with rice, vegetables, potatoes & a small green salad. Enjoy! Opa!

I don’t have Greek food too often but this place has made it one of my favorites! I had such an amazing meal here! The portions are huge and there is so much flavor. I love that the décor looks like a little Greek village and the staff was super nice! I tried the veggie plate and I highly recommend it. You will be able to try a variety of flavors and about 5 different types of food(potatoes, rice, veggies, etc.) in one meal. You won’t regret it!

Greek restaurant in down town, over rated actually or its a place known for so many years that they have this good reputation, free parking at the rear but limited and double double meaning if the first one is done they will call your attention to move your car even you are in the middle of your meal, another old restaurant, decors are nicely greek inspired, im loving the old olive oil cans, it reminds me of my grand mother that keeping the biscuit can no matter how old it is she is collecting them. service is average, i dont eat lamb though so anything that smells like it will ruin my appetite. good food but not really the best Greek food around… just like i mentioned its acquired reputation… not sure if they have wifi i didnt check, wash room is old and need some renovations even the place needs some touch up… its really getting old. prices of foods not bad… calamari was always awesome not a bad place to enjoy greek cuisine but also not the best place too…

Make sure not to come here during the dinner rush, you will be waiting outside. The food here is awesome. We normally get the lamb souvlaki which taste amazing but this last time the lamb was very chewy and overlooked This dish comes with Greek salad, rice and roasted potatoes, YUMMY! If you’re looking for a great appy, get the mussels in the garlicky butter wine sauce! They are amazing and you get plenty to share. The décor in this place isn’t very up to date but the great quality of the food can sometimes help you look past that. LOL.

The place was crammed and there was a waiting list for dinner service. But I’m not really sure why because I thought the food was just okay — nothing to boast about. We learned about this restaurant from one of the locals, and after he mentioned the portions were gigantic, my boyfriend was set on having dinner here. We both ordered the house specialty, Roast Lamb for our entrees and started with the calamari. The calamari was overdone, and the breading would peel off when it was dipped in the aioli sauce. I didn’t care much for it. The Roast Lamb plate fortunately was better. It was easy to break off, from the slow-roast. I just wished the rice, roast potatoes or Greek salad that came with it would’ve impressed me; they were all just basic sides. The portions were huge — I took most of mine home for leftovers. Decent place, but I wouldn’t eat here again.

So sometime between Dim Sum and a much needed nap — we ended up at Stephos as everyone was saying their roasted lamb was amazing.(When i say everyone, i mean 3 cabbies and a guy on the street). And the line outside and inside the restaurant speaks for itself. We(again lucky) came here and were seated nearly immediately. After we were seated a line of about 10 people showed up behind us. The 3 of us wanted merely a tasted of said Roasted Lamb — since we were full from the food. We ordered the platter and it came out quickly and we started at it. Now, i had the lamb shank at Le Crocodile the night before so i did have a point of reference in regards to the lamb, but this lamb was completely different. Still amazingly tender, the flavor of the lamb really pushed through — the platter included rice and veggies and some other things, but the lamb was very tasty. Furthermore — the restaurant is small — it was mid spring — so it was nice outside and the whole front of the restaurant was open and there was a skylight(if i recall correctly) lighting parts of the inside of the restaurant. The rest was pretty dark — but it honestly didn’t bother me. I’m sure at night the lights would be on and it would be a festive place to be — and it was! Every table was full and there was a buzz of happiness all around. Even as exhausted as I was, i was able to smile and just enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. Definitely a go for a good meal at a reasonable price.

Nothing fancy about either restaurant-Davie or Robson(I prefer the Robson location though as I find there are always less people) Everyone goes to Stephos because the food is good, the portions are huge and it won’t break your wallet. Not the best Greek food you’ll taste but chances are you will go back. I tend to get the lamb each time I go. I always have leftovers and I never spend more than $ 25

For Stepho’s, you need to get there early, because they do not take reservations. Given its affordability in price and the amount of food you get in return, the restaurant is always bombarding with customers wanting for more. It was my first experience at the restaurant, and thankfully I didn’t have to wait that long, around 20 minutes, as it was a party of two, just me and my husband. Even though everything in the restaurant seemed rushed, the food nevertheless was well cooked and clean. I couldn’t finish my plate and had some of the calamari packed to go. Because of its huge plate, I was honestly a little intimidated at first because it was difficult to eat cleanly in front of my husband(lol!). Aside from the fabulous food, the service, because it was a full house, was not on par with their food. Perhaps on a less busier night, it may be more relaxing. All the staff, including who looked like the owner(or manager) were working so hard and diligently, taking orders after orders, delivering customers’ foods, or clearing plates away. It seemed like they were well trained but also looked very tired from all the work. During our visit, hubby flagged down the staff a few times to take our order(since we were a little pressed on time) but were told to wait for our turn. We weren’t told to wait in a polite manner but instead in a sort of stuck up tone. I guess this can happen when the restaurant does so well — service starts to decline. In addition, I’ve heard that the restaurant has hiked up the prices of their menu by roughly 40%. So, the popular roast lamb dinner went from their original $ 9.95 to $ 14.00! This price increase may change your desire to go, but if you’ve never tried, I’d give it a go. It’s one of those must-visit places if you’re new to Vancouver or a tourist. If you’re looking for the real touristy experience, go to Stepho’s for dinner — you get the full deal! Waiting for a table, then to order, then the food, then to pay. If you’re looking to taste the food but skip the rest, try Stepho’s for lunch since the food will taste the same but the busy atmosphere may not be there. And…if you’re really just there for food(and only the food), go for pick up. Call ahead to make sure your order will be ready by the time you arrive. :)

The line-ups after all these years still amaze me. Basically you get big portions and good Greek food. It’s a family style restaurant and it’s cramped inside. Sometimes the meats can be too dry or the roast lamb too fatty but other times the entrees are prepared well. Come hungry, take it to go if you have to wait more than 30 minutes. It’s an ol’ school joint for us Vancouverites.

Visited Stepho’s 2 times during my stay in VAN. Food was quite good, staff was friendly. There often is a huge lineup, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance.
