Hmmm, we had a bad experience here. The service was pretty uninspiring(I almost felt like they didn’t care for us to be there). I ordered the Phad Thai(supposedly there most popular dish). It lacked flavor of any kind though the shrimp tasted good. What hit rock bottom, was my girlfriend ordered Panang curry and there were 4 pieces of nearly raw chicken(this is coming from a guy who typically eats his steak medium rare so I’m usually ok with things a little under-cooked). The chicken was not even close to me consider wanting to take a bite of it…

Terrible Thai food, had the«shrimp» papaya salad. No shrimp and not fresh at all. Tasted like pickled garlic

I have a thing with one of my best friends where we only eat Thai food together, and we try out new places every time we meet up. Checked out Thai Basil because we heard good things. It’s a lot tinier than we were expecting but the more intimate the better! We got the pad thai and chicken fried rice. The pad thai was super yummy, and the fried rice was not bad. It was pretty bland(which I don’t mind) as I didn’t use the sauce it came with. Lot’s of veggies which is always good~ It’s a pretty standard place, not bad, not super amazing. Will go back if in the area! tips: –not so good for parties of more than 4 the place is tinyyyy –if you are coming after shopping it might be better to put your bags in your car or something

We have traveled to Thailand many times and absolutely love their food. When we heard about Thai Basil we were super excited to try it out. We called in to order for delivery and the lady didn’t speak fluent English so it was hard to communicate with her. She was quite rude and put us on hold while we were giving her our order and not only did she put us on hold once but twice which we thought was kinda ignorant. Anyways we just ignored it and was still looking forward to trying their food even though their customer service was horrible. When the food finally arrived, we were so hungry and started eating right away and when we took our first bite we were utterly disgusted and shocked at the amount of salt they put in everything! We ordered the red curry, two orders of the chicken basil and other things and we were so grossed out of the amount of salt they put in their food we literally had to throw it all out! We were so disappointed and we just thought to ourselves what a frickin waste of time and money. We were so looking forward to great Thai food but it turned out to be a bucket of salty Thai food! We’re talking SOMUCHSALT that it literally burned — Holy Sodium overload! This was the worst Thai food we have ever had in our lives and we vow to never go here ever again. BEWARE!

Best Thai food I’ve ever had. It’s a small place and better for take out but watch out, the food is addicting!

Oh man! What a huge disappointment! I went in one afternoon and ordered a curry with rice. They asked me which curry, and I asked for the spiciest! She said«red curry». I said” I like to try that then”. The food came, the curry was overcooked with coconut milk. The whole dish taste like sweet coconut. It was the worst meal ever…

Yellow curry and pad gra prow were really good The dessert we tried was also great. We found a nice Thai food restaurant in downtown. If you like Thai food you should come here and try some.

Thai Basil is about one block from my BFF’s place — where I stay whenever I visit Vancouver. She and I get Thai Basil to go at least twice each visit. The restaurant is tiny, and we’ve never ordered to stay, mainly because you can picnic on the beach only 3 blocks away! The portion to price ratio is fantastic — I’m hard pressed to find a Thai place that good, convenient & reasonably priced in my town. I always get the Green or Masuman Curry which tastes pretty darn close to the curries I have had in Thailand, although the salad that is included with the meals is decidedly not Thai, and more just lettuce with dressing. When I go back to visit, I will absolutely be eating here again.

So I’ve been to the location in Kits beside the Local and I enjoyed my red pumpkin curry despite the fact that it came with chicken when I asked for tofu. I ordered it again this time stating that I wanted tofu, hoping they would prepare it that way. I also ordered spring rolls. My friend ordered a yellow curry with tofu. Low and behold once again I received chicken in my curry. It’s a good thing I’m not a vegetarian or I’d be very unimpressed — I was too hungry to have them correct it so I just ate it. It was okay not as good as thr last time. My friend’s yellow curry dish was excellent though! I like this place but it is frustrating when your order is incorrectly prepared twice. I’ll do myself a favor and order something else next time.

My favourite casual Thai place in downtown Vancouver. I always get the pad see-ew or the red curry. Side note for vegetarians/vegans: My friend really appreciates how the yellow curry doesn’t use fish sauce(most places always add fish sauce)

Ehh… I hate when Unilocalers rank high because something is cheap. Sure it can weigh in a ½ star but this is a perfect example of a place that simply serves«food,» free of spices, herbs, fresh ingredients, service, cleanliness, disorganized and frazzled staff with no system for seating or pickup… Just food. So why is it ranked 4 stars? Because everything is half the price as the other Thai restaurants in town. And trust me when I say that after tasting the flavors; you’ll know why. Again, not saying it was bad, but it’s just lackluster food, the type you eat to survive, not experience Thai cuisine. I definitely won’t be back. I’ll stick to the $ 14 plates at pink elephant or Sala Thai and enjoy a tasty Thai dish.

Love this place. Food Recs: — Beef Panang Curry(~10 bucks) — i usually order it VERYSPICY which is perfect. — Pad Gra Prow(~10 bucks) — Excellent dish with ground meat, rice and a runny egg. YUM! — If you order for take-out, it usually takes only 15 minutes(during Dinner). — Staff is really nice. — Parking is readily available in the front or laneway. — There’s a couple dining tables for two just right outside the restaurant. A+

Just ok, The curry was good, actually a tad expensive for a space like this but the taste was on par with good restaurant style curry. The pad thai started out ok but got less tasty as I ate it and the sweetness of the sauce came through. Thai operated but just didn’t hit the marks like Sawasdee Thai on main.

This place is pretty awesome for the price. Good Thai food in Vancouver is few and far between so finding this place was a breath of fresh air(literally). The place is right on the beach and has a large garage door that was open when I came here for dinner. It gave the place a really nice feel. The staff was very friendly and fast. We got our food 11 minutes after ordering it. I had the pad see yew. While it didn’t have the truly wide noodles, the noodles they used were a good firmness and consistency. The yellow curry was also quite nice and had a good kick to it. Chicken satay was good, but I think they could have done better with the peanut sauce. I’ll be back for the cheap price and quality food.

I normally love this place and would have agreed that they should have 4 stars. However, my most recent experience was quite disappointing. The thai fried rice and it was filled with what looked like the discarded stalks of vegetables. The spring rolls were extremely greasy and there was nothing inside but noodles and a tiny tiny bit of cabbage, they were tasteless. Maybe they ran out of veggies for the spring rolls and the rice. Only giving 3 stars because of this. Curry was amazing though.

This place has been consistently good throughout the years. I often order the noodle or curry dishes and find them to be stellar. It’s a very small place, a hole in the wall, but it’s charming and has outdoor seating too. The food is really great, and tastes exactly like what I ate in Thailand. The price is definitely reasonable too. Service is good and friendly. I just can’t find any negatives with this cool little restaurant. Fantastic! I’m very happy to recommend this place for take out or eat in. 5⁄5

Still a solid four stars for me. I have since tried the yellow curry(outstanding, a little spicy) and pad thai(mediocre, quite bland). Value for money is still excellent, and service is still very good. Self-serve water jugs and cups right at the front counter. I only wish they’d find a larger location and better tables/seating — seems to me like they’re busy enough to justify a bigger space.

Pros: — Decently priced. — Decent taste — Swift service — Welcoming staff — Nicely decorated Cons: — When you ask your food to go you seem to get less of it — They seem to only have 1 level of spicyness which is in the middle of mild and super spicy, which is a bummer when you ask for either or. But I will be trying other dishes since I’m right by there all the time.

A solid Thai lunch option. You can get most of their regular entrees off the lunch menu for less than CA $ 8 with a small salad. The Pad Thai isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it’s satisfying if you’ve been jonesin’ for some noodles. It’s tight inside and busy at lunchtime, so don’t expect much elbow space.
