This is pretty good ramen. The noodles are a bit thin and it is definitely very different compared to the other ramen places. I had the black ramen. It was a bit oily. But I have to say its very yummy. The diffference between a black ramen and the original one is that the black one has garlic in it. Also it comes with half an egg. To add the half an egg would cost an extra $ 1 on top of the original one and the garlic would be the extra $ 1 I had to say the chashu was very delicious and it did melt in my mouth. I did try to drink the soup at the end because of the oil I saw. I definitely like this place and will definitely come back.

Came here tonight & I absolutely loved it. I had the green ramen and the spicy gyoza. The noodles were different and so much better than in other ramen places I’ve been too. Thin and had a good texture. The gyoza were juicy and loved the spicy topping. My friend had the red ramen and I loved that too(I finished off her broth). Loved the soft egg on top :) Will come here again!

I had Orange. Very creamy but not enough miso flavour. But I guess it was good balance for that soup. I recommend to have free refill of noodle.

As a big fan of ramen, I was pretty excited to try these guys. Came by after dropping off my bike in a nearby bike shop and exploring this gentrified neighbourhood. Service was friendly, efficient, and fast. We both ordered the classic ramen with extra egg and corn, and a serving of spicy gyoza. Broth is a make or break for me, and I was a big fan of Ramen Butcher’s broth. Rich without being oily, flavourful, and not too salty(looking at you, Danbo), it really hit the spot. The pink ginger(not pickled, just dyed pink) was neither here nor there. The ‘lean’ meat was a bit dry, though it was still a bit fattier than the lean cuts I’m used to getting. Spicy gyozas were liberally smothered with a mildly spicy, thick sauce that was interesting if a bit overpowering. I used a bit in my ramen noodles to give it a bit more kick. Overall, a good experience, but would be better if they upped the ante with the meat. A solid choice that I would hit up again.

The classic ramen was delicious, noodles are thin and a bit on the harder side but good. Lean pork was tender and very tasty. Karage Don was very saucy and too salty for our taste. Spicy gyoza was very garlic-y and not very spicy. Would not order anything outside of ramen next time around, service was great and friendly.

Me and my friend were going to pnohn phehn, but they were closing already. A ramen house closeby was still open, we went there, its the Ramen Butcher. It was our first time, we went and ordered The Classic for my friend and The Black for myself. And side order of chicken karaage. When we have our ramen, the looks was kinda dissapointing? Because it looks so small, but when we were eating it, we were satisfied! The broth was so much flavor, the noodles wAs so good, and they said it was made in the house., me and my friend keeps on saying it was so good and so much flavor! And the portion that looks small filled us up, I will come back to this place and i will even tell it to my friends.

Returned yesterday because pnomh penh was lined up. It was slightly after 1:00. The place was sorta busy. We were 2 so we sat at the bar. We both had orange ramen minus the pickled ginger which I find overpowering. If you like ginger you may disagree. I opted for extra green onion. Both bowls came quickly. The broth was perfect. Hot, rich, salty and strongly flavoured in all the aforementioned categories. I hadn’t tried the egg on my last visit but I wouldn’t miss it again. Lightly marinated in possibly soy? Yolk was slightly runny. The noodle were firm to the bite. Perfectly chewy. I had the fatty pork which was good but slightly dry. Really it would need to be twice as thick to retain any real juiciness to it and it went beautifully in the broth so really Im whining. The marinated ground pork mixed into the ramen increased the heaviness of the dish. I say heaviness in the kindest, most respectful and best possible way. This is not a light lunch order. We ordered the extra noodles but split it as we didn’t want to leave any behind. Im glad we did as we almost couldn’t finish it. I left nothing. My 19 year old son who has a appetite like a goat left a little broth. This was wrong. Will change my will to reflect this… The service was flawless. Wasn’t the least bit offended when the bill was brought to the table on the conclusion of the meal. Tax and tip in $ 28. I read some less than favorable reviews on this place. I don’t understand at this price point. I find it better than a few places ive paid more in.

I had the orange ramen; it was miso flavoured and I tried their lean pork with it. The broth and noodles were great; like typical ramen places. Near the end of eating my ramen, the broth was pretty powerful still(still salty). Pro tip: get the kaedama(get an extra bowl of noodles for free)! I would have loved the dish more if it had a full egg! The egg was cooked perfectly where it was kind of runny and semi cooked! The price was decent too! $ 13.45 for the entire meal! Waitresses refilled waters constantly and there was great service! Overall I give this place a 4.5÷5 because it was great but not very different from other ramen places. When I first walked in, it seemed like the Downtown Jinya restaurant because everyone working there would greet you and say goodbye to you when you go through the doors! The décor was pretty too!

The constant search for a good ramen place near work has finally yielded the Ramen Butcher. It’s a solid joint, and not too far from the main street skytrain station which is nice: D The pricing is good, and the food is excellent. The service could be a little quicker, but the place is generally busy enough that it’s easy to forgive. If you’re looking for a good ramen place and you’re in area; Ramen Butcher’s a good choice.

This is one of the better ramen places I’m Vancouver. The original is well priced at $ 8.95, and an egg for a $ 1.00. If you want the fancier ramens with a little extra, it’s generally $ 10.95. The only thing about the fancier ones is they serve you half an egg. I only notice because I love eggs. I had the tsukamen ramen. It has thicker noodles. It would be great if they could have an option to have the thicker noodles in soup.

Sudden Ramen urge last night as I was near the main street skytrain station. This ramen place was within the walking distance, in Chinatown. I ordered the original ramen, about $ 9. I was asked for the fat or lean pork. Well, a little more fat = a little more flavor. So, fat pork it is. Portion is a little small, so I added an order of extra noodle, free. Overall, I like the food and service.

I knew I had to try out The Ramen Butcher after seeing all the posts on social media about it and I have to say, it certainly lived up to the hype! Rich tonkotsu broth and perfectly chewy noodles made for a fantastic bowl of ramen. I got the«Black» version(which had roasted garlic oil) and my friend had the«Green»(which has basil paste and Parmesan). I think the next time I’ll just have the«Classic»; the roasted garlic oil, while good, was a little overpowering for me. On the other hand, the almost pesto-like combination of the«Green» helped cut the richness of the tonkotsu and made for an interesting fusion of flavours; however, I will still just go for the«Classic» next time because I like the more traditional flavours for my ramen. Also, I will definitely opt for the lean cut of chasu next time; the fatty version was a little too fatty. We also got a plate of Okonomi gyoza. I found them to be pretty good — juicy and with thin wrappers — but what stood out the most was making them Okonomi-style. Very creative and definitely something I’d love to incorporate into my own cooking. That being said, I’m not sure I would get them again; it was more of a novelty item for me. The restaurant itself was very trendy compared to its location(its situated at the outskirts of Chinatown which is still a bit run down despite attempts at revival). I especially loved the décor — they had«paper» cranes hanging from the ceiling! Very cool! The waitresses were very friendly, although their constant inquiries about plate removals made it seem like despite the abundance of empty seats, they were rushing us out. Overall, definitely a place worth visiting again!

Solid ramen place, albeit not the best. Pros? Garlic is potent which is great Noodles done perfectly Broth flavor is great Clean interior Super friendly staff Reasonable prices Free second bowl of noodles if you save your broth Cons? Meat was difficult to eat and a bit overlooked albeit very flavorful Although the broth is so flavorful with pork it’s almost creamy, it’s also quite oily cause of the pork fat… Which is usually good but here it was a wee bit overwhelming

I am no ramen connoisseur but I do appreciate a comforting bowl of noodle soup on a cold winterish day. Let’s face it, Vancouver has it’s share of Ramen restaurants popping up so there is a lot to compare to. Looking at The Ramen Butcher’s reviews, you can’t please everyone and there will always be a place better or more authentic, etc. That said, I was very happy with my first TRB experience! The ambience and décor is minimalistic and very cool, and the ramen itself(the star) is flavourful, not too fatty(if you get the lean pork), and the right noodle: soup ratio(I don’t understand the extra noodle thing… that’s a LOT of carbs!) I tried the classic, and it was just that — a classic bowl of Ramen. I got almost ¾ way through and was stuffed. Everything tasted fresh and presentation was pretty awesome as well. $ 10 I think is pretty fair for what we got. I will definitely go again!

Ramen Butcher was disgusting, there is no other word to describe it. I went here yesterday with my girlfriend before an art show as it was close by. Service: Was good, but they always rush to give us the bill at the end. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so why the rush? No biggie. It’s nicely decorated and a welcoming place, as all the servers were friendly. The Ramen: I ordered«Black» the noodles were so disgusting and my friend even hinted a smell of yeast in her Ramen(yuck), she ordered the«Original». I love black sesame, but this broth was tasteless with NO flavour! Pork pieces(lean) were still somewhat fatty. Marutama Ramen was WAY better, even thou it was $ 4-$ 5 extra per bowl. I’d rather pay the extra bit to get better quality noodles, flavourful broth and pork. I had a tummy ache after yesterday, it might have been from the Ramen or chips I ate after, SO I’m not completely blaming it on Ramen Butcher, but I’ll never go to this place ever again!

This is probably my 3rd or 4th time here and overall I have been very pleased with the food and ok with the service. Went here last night and found out that they were giving out free mini chashu don with ramen purchase if your birthday is in January. Score! My wife and I both ordered the orange ramen and were both happy with the taste of the broth and the toppings with it. They also provide one free noodle refill. Most restaurants that we have been to serve thin wavy noodles, but here they serve the thin straight noodles. Doesn’t affect the taste at all, but some people may be confused as to whether they are actually eating ramen noodles. We also ordered the okonomi gyozas; while it wasn’t bad, it seems like quite the gimmick and personally, I would prefer okonomiyaki or gyoza on their own. Service is always friendly and servers do try to keep an eye out to ensure that you have everything you need, although they may be forgetful at times depending on how busy they are.

On a Saturday morning a friend and I were looking to have lunch at the ever popular Phnom Penh in Chinatown. We got there around 1130ish and the wait was right out the door. Since neither of us are into waiting we decided to walk across the street and try out the Ramen Butcher. The Butcher was a bit busy too but no where as bad as Phnom Penh! I think a lot of the run over customers from Phnom Penh ended up going to the Butcher! I wonder if that was the Butcher’s marketing strategy… to be the second most popular noodle restaurant in the area and get the run over customers from Phnom Penh! I like the Butcher! Overall, it was pretty darn good. It’s kind of a yuppie ramen noodle place. I ordered the Classic. The soup/broth was good and flavourful. The noodles were good. Overall, a nice presentation. I guess everyone who eats here has talked about the free extra noodle thing… so here we go again… if you ask you get a extra free serving of noodles, so don’t drink all your soup! I still love the lemongrass chicken wings at Phnom Penh, but The Ramen Butcher is a nice alternative! Maybe The Butcher should try offering lemongrass chicken wings! haha

My buddy EJ pinged me to go for lunch today. Since I rarely see him anymore because he found himself a new g/f over Xmas, I jumped at the offer. We were headed to our usual haunt(i.e. Goldstone Bakery) but then took a detour to see if we could get into Phnom Penh. No such luck. At least 10 people in front of us so we headed across the street to Ramen Butcher. I had read that this place was good so was happy that we got a seat right away. I ordered the Red Ramen because I like a little spicy kick to my ramen. Other than a little longer wait than I would expect from a ramen place, I was not disappointed. The soup was very flavorful, light and not overly salty. The thin ramen noodles were fresh and cooked to perfection. The soup clings to the noodles so that every mouthful is full of flavor. A couple tips: — I had ordered lean char siu pork. I found it a tad dry. Next time I would order the fatty pork and just not eat the fat part. — A definite plus is that you get a complimentary first helping of extra ramen(they charge for the second). If you’re hungry, just make sure you don’t drink all the soup at first go. Save some to eat with the extra ramen. — The place is not big, but there is plenty of social seats and the tables turnover pretty quick. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes ramen(or can’t get into Phnom Penh).

This is a teeny tiny restaurant, so be prepared to wait outside because they don’t take reservations. They also have a $ 6 minimum order per person requirement. My sister wasn’t that hungry and just wanted to order gyoza($ 5.35), but apparently their minimum order requirement is very strict and the server told her she had to order more. So, she just ordered an egg($ 1). They looked at her funny for just ordering an extra egg instead of ordering a bowl of ramen, but what do you expect when you enforce a minimum order requirement? I ordered the orange ramen with extra corn and seaweed because they were having a chalkboard promotion where if you follow them on Instagram you get two free toppings. After we ordered, the server came back with a completely different order. We told her that the tonkotsu ramen with two eggs wasn’t ours, and she was very surprised and adamant that it was ours. We said no, and I told her our order again. Again, she tried to convince me that the tonkotsu ramen was ours. She was extremely flustered and stressed out. Then, a different server came with our right order. My ramen was absolutely delicious. I would come here again just for the ramen, because the service was lacking. The only refilled our water once at the end of our meal, and they never checked up on us while we were eating to see if we needed anything.

We came in here on a Wednesday around noon. With two people in our party, we were able to be seated right away, but it quickly became packed and if we had come in 15 minutes later, we probably wouldn’t have been able to get a table. They have a bar with some beers and a variety of liquor, which makes me think this place would be great for late night ramen. We got the chicken karaage, a bowl of black ramen and a bowl of orange ramen. They were also doing a fun little promotion that day where if you were wearing a scarf, you got a curry rice appetizer for free. Since I was wearing a scarf, we got to try that as well! The chicken karaage was baked, which was an interesting change from other restaurants. It came with an option of sauce to dip in. We got the wasabi mayo(the other option was some sort of sweet vinegar dip). The wasabi mayo was a nice balance to the chicken. I would definitely order this again. The mini curry don was delicious. It didn’t seem to contain any meat, though there were chunks of carrots and a small portion of rice. The curry itself was quite good, especially for free. The ramen was the highlight of this meal for me. I got the orange ramen, which is tonkostu broth with miso marinated pork. This was incredible. It was a light, creamy broth and the added miso pork was delicious. It also came with a choice of fatty or lean pork. I ordered fatty, and when it came out it seems like it was on slice of fatty and one slice of lean. It was nice to be able to try both, even though it was probably an accident. The fatty pork was good, and the lean was also good though slightly dry. The noodles were good too, and the egg was nicely softboiled. The broth was the real standout here though. I would recommend that other people order this. I tried some of my partner’s black ramen, which is tonkotsu broth with roasted garlic oil. I enjoyed the few bites that I had, though he mentioned it was slightly overwhelming by the end. He also got extra noodles, which were free for the first round and then a few dollars for the second round. I would definitely come back and try other things on the menu. The service was good, though I wish they had refilled our water a bit more. Overall, definitely worth trying out.

I’ll give this a 3.5 because the place had a funny promotion for a free curry don if you’re wearing a scarf. I went for lunch and the place was pretty busy, but we managed to snag the last table before people started waiting. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, and tables well set. I was in a bit of a rush to eat lunch and go back to the train station so I chose a ramen shop since it probably wouldn’t take more than an hour to serve food. I went with the tonkotsu black, to give this a comparison with Jinya’s black ramen. One thing that I really liked about this place is that they give you extra noodles free of charge. So if you’re really hungry, the extra noodles will definitely fill you up. The chicken karaage here is baked and not deep fried, so I decided to order it to see if their baking was anything special. The karaage was very tasty, served with wasabi mayo it was a great appetizer. But deep frying is definitely the way to go with karaage. The free curry don was tasty, but everything tastes good when it’s free right? The ramen itself was a bit disappointing for me. I felt the broth itself lacked a bit of pork flavouring, but instead it was served with pickled ginger which gave it a different flavour. I definitely prefer Jinya’s black ramen. What I did enjoy was the orange ramen, the miso marinated pork was delicious. I’d recommend the orange ramen and passing on the black ramen.

Finally managed to make it out to Ramen Butcher today! As a self proclaimed ramen enthusiast, I had initially felt kind of bad that I wasn’t able to check it out sooner, but admittedly I left feeling a little disappointed. It’s not bad ramen by any means, but like a lot of the other reviews are saying, the ratio between broth and noodle is a bit askew. Bonus points that the noodles are made fresh(you can tell) but there’s too much noodle and not enough broth, which is not ideal because they do offer you a free refill of noodles. It’s also worth noting that most of the broth bases(except for one veggie option) are pork-based and are pretty rich. They’re almost kind of creamy — and they’re not salty enough. I ordered the ‘Red’ ramen. Santouka and Motomachi in the West End both offer miso-based broths which I think every good ramen restaurant needs to offer at least one menu item with. I also ordered the cheese gyoza expecting gyoza with a cheese filling — except what I got was just a regular pork gyoza with melted cheese on top, which was gross. I might have misread the menu though. Also a little expensive for what they’re offering too. You get two smallish pieces of meat per bowl of ramen and maybe a handful of vegeteables. If you’re in the area and have a hankering with a decent bowl of ramen — definitely give RB a go, but don’t go out of your way for it. Go to Motomachi Shokudo or Santouka in the West End instead. Particularly Motomachi.

This place is not bad. The night we went, my friend(a non-yelper) noticed a sign outside that said«Special of the Day: Anyone wearing a hoodie gets 2 free fried chicken(karage)». I wasn’t blown away with the dish I had, although props to them for offering the chicken ramen. The meat portion was literally the size of two balls(think golf balls). It was an interesting first-time. I have heard mixed reviews from a plenty of friends(reliable sources) so I wanted to try for myself before judging. Well, I gave it 3 stars. The service was interesting, the dishes were so salty. I wish there was a water fountain for filtered water at the table. The service I’d rate as a B-. At the end of dinner, they rushed our bill to our table(there was a line around 8:30. She gave us two candies(for three people). So I kindly asked for another candy and she took away the original two flavours and gave us 3 new flavours, which puzzled me a bit. Anyway, I’d say you can give this establishment a try, a lot of people are still waiting to try it. Then you can compare your experience to mine.~

Came here over the weekend to finally give this ramen shop a try. We had ordered their tori ramen and black tonkotsu ramen to try. The black broth was rich and creamy but the fatty pork chashu was extremely fatty. There wasn’t much meat it at all, just all fat. I really enjoyed the pickled ginger that came in the broth to add different flavors to it. However the tori ramen(chicken broth) was not good. The chicken ball that came with it was dry and tasteless. We won’t order this again. Their Okonomi gyoza was pretty good though to make this experience a bit better. Overall it was okay and I will come again if everything else was busy around that neighbourhood. FYI: They do not serve hot tea. Weird.

FOOD — I was torn between the black burned garlic oil and the red chili oil — but the red chili oil wins me over. Every damn time. Started out pretty bland at first but the more you eat, the more flavorful it gets. So weird! Also the chili oil … I’m willing to bet money that it draws from southeast Asian fermented shrimp paste, just going by the amount of concentrated umami and flavor that I’ve only ever tasted before in Malaysian and Indonesian food. If I’m wrong then I want to know what it is. Be sure to save the broth for the free extra helping of noodles. Also, get the fried chicken with wasabi mayo. Delicious! SERVICE — Been here twice and both times, service was a little slow despite being at half capacity. Otherwise, friendly service. ATMOSPHERE — Not your traditional ramen atmosphere. Very contemporary and modern. Roomier than its downtown counterparts. A little on the loud side, but not unbearable.

It was full on a rainy Saturday afternoon at 2pm but the wait was quick and extra points for the fun Haloween décor and server in costumes. The classic ramen was decent but compared to other ramen broths in the city it was a step below. You must like ginger as there are small but powerful slices of pickled ginger throughout. Good thing I do. Otherwise you should ask them to make it without. The best part is the noodles that they make fresh daily. They are delightfully thin and chewy. The fatty pork was too fat and the lean was not that lean so next time I’m ordering the lean pork! This neighbourhood definitely needs a ramen place and this joint fits the bill.

As someone who has lived and traveled extensively in Japan, this place does indeed translate the most current and popular ramen flavours directly from Japan. If you’ve had the opportunity to experience their parent company, the Menya Koji Group, it is quite the treat to have chefs trained and right here in Vancouver! Highlights include: — Very FRESH noodles. These are handmade daily and definitely sets them apart from all the other ramen places in Vancouver. — Authentic ramen flavours: Try the Black Ramen if you enjoy Garlic. — Gyoza selection is creative! The Original Gyoza is delicious. The Okonomi Gyoza is executed very well and a must-try if you enjoy Okonomiyaki. — They serve pitchers of Sapporo = $ 17.50! No lineup on a Sunday morning at 11:30 am. Our experience was very pleasant and the service was efficient. Ramen Butcher would be one of my top 3 choices for ramen in Vancouver, given the authenticity, ambience and location.

Decent ramen with hearty portions and the option to refill your noodles. Some have said that the broth is too rich; I am inclined to agree. Also a little on the pricier side. Presentation is nice, but that’s of low importance to me for ramen. Service is great. Seating is very comfortable. Noise level is very high so it‘s difficult to talk. Washroom is clean. I like to eat ramen here by myself.

Looks like East Of Main died and got replaced by this ramen shop with a circus pig logo. Parking is tricky here. Try the park to the E, Gore street to the N. The place is «hipster Japanese», if that’s even possible. I can’t put my finger on the theme, but there are definitely pig statues all over the place. Staff were friendly and helpful. Ramen is a bit more pricey at $ 9 – 12 a bowl, but they give you one extra batch of noodles for free. After that it’s $ 1.25 per batch. Be sure to save your soup for reuse as it’s literally just noodles. The«red» noodle I had was actually quite tasty. Nice garlic taste, and a light spicy kick. The noodles were nice and springy. Actually a pretty tasty bowl. They also have beer here, which is nice for washing things down. I would definitely be back to try more of their dishes. Recommended.

Disappointing ramen but good gyozas. I had the«black» ramen and shared the Okonomi gyozas. They don’t seem to give you as much broth as other places I’ve been to and the flavour was also lacking. I don’t like it super salty but this was definitely under. There is the option of getting a free refill on your noodles, but with so little broth, I don’t see how another portion of noodles could be enjoyed without adding more broth. You also have the option of lean, medium or fatty pork, I opted for the fatty which also lacked in flavour. They use the thin noodles(I prefer the thick noodles) — I can’t fault them on this since it’s all a matter of personal preference. The Okonomi gyozas outshined the ramen by far. The pork meat inside was juicy and tender and the gyozas were topped with bonito flakes, green onions and Okonomi sauce. I’d come back for just the gyozas as a snack and skip the ramen altogether.

I enjoyed Ramen Butcher. I ordered the standard broth with fatty meat and my boyfriend had the red ramen. We both agreed that both broths had really good flavour and we didn’t need to add anything to it. The noodles had good texture too. We were both too full to take advantage of the all you can eat noodles this time. I’m actually more of a fan of this place since the staff seated us when we arrived just before closing. They were so kind to serve us and we had a great time. They also kept telling us to not rush and that we could stay as long as we needed.

First ramen restaurant in Chinatown. Came to try for the first time. Missed the opening. Waited for 15 minutes. Relatively easy parking close by. Modern décor with communal tables. Cute pig ornaments and piggy pictures around the store. I had the black ramen. Tasty but a little rich for my taste. I found it left a lingering taste in my mouth after. Also not crazy about the pickled ginger within so may ask for it to come without the next time around. Bbq pork was delicious. I had the lean but it was still tender and flavourful. Half boiled egg done perfectly. I also ordered the okonomi gyoza that came with spring onions, mayo, some teriyaki sauce, and bonito flakes. This was delicious. The combination of flavours were incredible and definitely will come back for this. Seems ‘easily’ replicable at home too so may try it one time perhaps ;-)

I’m debating between a 2 or 2.5 stars It’s not horrible, but it’s not good that’s worth any lineups… Long review short, the only thing good here is the gyoza! The okonomi is really good! Other than the gyoza… I didn’t like the ramen much. So I finally got to try this place because it’s finally not on break and finally not sold out at 7pm The waitress greeted us, however, she asked us to wait outside without putting any names down… When we questioned her, she was like«ohhhh yeahhhh I need to take your names down»… Lol… Hi=_= I tried the original and the red. The red is suppose to be spicy but it’s not… even when I asked for extreme. Honestly, it’s just the original with a spoon of spicy sauce. Overall, the soup is quite plain. All I can taste is the taste of salt … When I asked for the good old ichimi japanese chili pepper, it never came… I think they need an AC because it’s really hot! I would only be back for the gyoza when there are no lineups. l
