Every time I come in here, I’m reminded that there are people out there opening restaurants that are passionate about food and drink. Every server/bartender I’ve dealt with has known the menu inside and out, including the wines. The atmosphere is lively and warm. I’ve gone for dinner, and I’ve also gone for wine and a meat and cheese plate, a very generous array of different tastes to combine together for tastebud sensations. I have also head in just for coffee and the chocolate mousse, which is heavenly, and I crave it. Thanks for adding such a beautiful restaurant to this neighbourhood!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in this charming neighbourhood bistro with a fantastic meal. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. We ordered the chef’s tasting menu and several glasses of wine by the glass, so it wasn’t a cheap meal, but we really enjoyed the experience. I’d definitely come back for dinner another time and order one of the regular dishes on the menu. The wines are excellent and under $ 12 a glass(some BC wines & other really good ones), and the beers on draught are great(mostly BC microbrews). The chef really nicely balanced rich French preparations with some amazing and healthy ingredients, so I didn’t feel heavy after eating this large meal. The tasting menu that night(changes daily) included 5 dishes for $ 39: *Charcuterie board with bresaola, chèvre noir(a cheddar-like goat cheese), and several condiments(mustard, olives, pickled onions, apricot chutney, cornichons) with bread — delicious! *Salad of beets with some sort of orange slices and fresh cheese(honestly neither of us like beets, but the flavours went well together) *Roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts with gnocchi and confit chicken thighs with cheese, a sauce, a foam, and a balsamic drizzle.(amazing chicken made up for slightly heavy gnocchi) *Newport steak seared medium-rare with fingerling potatoes, greens, and carrots with olive oil-based hollandaise sauce.(Amazing. I could eat that sauce on everything.) *Salted chocolate mousse to share for dessert — at my request based on Unilocal reviews. Did not disappoint! Eager to return here. Thanks for making our anniversary special!

I have been here many times over the last couple of years. I’m giving it 4 stars for having a drink and some snacks. Ambience is great — definitely good for dates and small gathering with friends. While it is still yuppie, I call it more mature yuppie and with a good neighbourhood feel. Besides the ambience, I greatly appreciate the solid selection of wine by the glass every day — generally good choices at reasonable prices. What a great place to have one or two glasses of wine with some snacks. Selection for cheese and meat is also solid, with good accompaniments. Services vary a little depending on who you get, but has never had bad service. Despite all the good things I like about the place, I will give it 3 stars if I have to judge it by dinner. I understand it is a small place and it has to be kept simple, but the choices are so limited. Some hot appys may be a good addition to the dinner and bar menu and make it more interesting, esp for repeat customers. For the entrees, they are okay. There has been times that even their popular mushroom and gruyère tart did not have pastry properly cooked through. When you do so few entrees, they really need to rock your world. Nevertheless, still a fan, and still mostly going for drinks and snacks!

It feels like drinking in a cozy stable without the smell of horses. I’ve only been a couple times and arrived drunk both times so can’t say much to their menu. Wine list is good. Craft beers on tap are well curated. Service is at the right level. Great neighbourhood house.

Cozy atmosphere, great specials(for a Monday night) and fantastic service! Large wine selection… nice spot for a drink or a bite to eat. Tried the meat flatbread with onion jam — delicious. Great location just off Granville and 13th as well.

Just stopped in for a quick lunch and found a new fav! Perfect place for a quality and comfy meal. Nice little patio, great peaceful break from shopping and the food is obviously put together by a pro.

One of the first places I found after moving here. Its on a side street off Granville and I happened to see the sign. Wonderful farm to table restaurant with a creative menu and a very knowledgeable and engaged staff. My extended family just arrived for a visit and this is the first place I thought of bringing them. Good stuff Vancouver!

Came by for some drinks and some snacks. Parking is available in the side streets. The place is typical classy yuppie, with dim lighting but pale wooden furniture. The inside is quite small, but not cramped. Not sure how the place is horse themed, other than some horse tiles on the back wall. Because the place is small, groups size should be kept below 4, unless you are lucky and bag the long row of tables against the wall. Staff are professional, but the service was a bit lacking. We had to flag down the waiter a few times. Place is definitely quite pricey for what you get. I had ¼ of a glass of wine and there were 2 charcuterie(literally a few pieces of bread and cheese, with a few slices of ham and some olives) boards shared between 6 people. Final bill was $ 25 per person. Yikes. Value is not what you’d find here. Sure the quality is there, but unfortunately I have trouble justifying a return visit.

Stable house is an intimate setting with phenomenal service. First off out server Mark was very personable, friendly and gave great recommendations and good tips on menu items. The wine menu is great with many options to suit any taste and preference. For my entrée meal I had the chefs daily special which was halibut… The first of the season. It came with a beautiful chick pea salad and house pickled carrots which were a personal favourite of mine. For desert my girlfriend and I shared the salted chocolate mousse it was so delicious that we actually ordered a second one to share! Seriously it was that delicious… I kid you not probably one of the best Deserts I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this spot… It’s cute, quaint and perfect!

While our host and waitress were attentive and charming, the food was not. I ordered the flatiron steak with smashed potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts. The potatoes and sprouts were delicious, but the steak was very undercooked. At first I was a bit in denial and tried a few bites. The texture, flavour, and smell of the meat confirmed that although the outside was seared brown, the inside was uncooked. I’ve never sent anything back before in my life, and I might have made an exception here, but I was so squicked out that I just wanted to finish my drink. My poor dining companions also had a surprise in store. Both of them found chunks of fish nestled amongst their gnocchi. Now, let’s be clear; there was no mention whatsoever of fish in the menu description. And fish is something that should be mentioned; it’s not like the garlic, or black pepper, that one can omit. Unfortunately, one of my dining companions really dislikes fish, so there was another meal that didn’t end well. The ambiance and design of the place are very nice, but someone needs to sort out what’s going on with the kitchen, because if you have a nice place that serves good drinks and bad food, then you’re just a two-star rating on Unilocal

Nice cozy and inviting room can’t say same for waitress. Prickly and unfriendly. I figure don’t judge until food comes out. Gnocchi was bland and dry. There are many other options walking distance so keep on walking

It’s funny how reading Unilocal reviews can affect your expectations of a place… so I arrived with not such high expectations but left rather impressed. The ambience is great, perfect for a date; our waiter was not invasive at all and only popped by at the right moments. We sat on the patio so my review of the furniture is from my way to the bathroom. The candlelit small tables create an easy going yet chic bistro feel to the place and get my A grade for nice selection of furniture. For starters they have a nice but not a library long list of wines and I quite enjoyed the French Rose on the menu. I tried the pork cheeks, cooked to perfection with an interesting selection of vegetables on the side. The best part about my dinner was the out of this world Salted Chocolate Mousse that left my taste buds in heaven for the night. Needless to say I will be back to try more items from the menu.

Cute and cozy place. Loved the location where is close to several stores but at the same time in a very quiet street. I had Tomato and Goat Cheese Fritatta(good, but not excellent) and my husband had Beer Bacon Pancakes which was really tasty and much better than mine. I will definitely go back just to have a Beer Bacon Pancake again. Couple weeks later after the first review above — I tried mushroom and gruyère tart. OMG! My favorite dish in this restaurant. And my favorite dessert ever is the chocolate mousse(with salt)!

This is a very cool venue(intimate, small and nicely designed), they have a great assortment of meats and cheeses and a lovely wine list. The wine I got as well as the one my friend ordered were both amazing. The prices are higher but the place is a little upper scale so it fits the ambiance but just be aware if you are taking a date or a friend there. Our server was kind of rude though. In fact when we walked in and asked for a table and she made asked us if we were eating and we said probably a cheese plate and she said the tables were only for dinner but the only other option is to sit at the high stools at the bar and there were 3 of us which is sort of awkward all in a row. Anyways she said that because it wasn’t busy(it was at least 50% empty) she would allow it. I am not sure how she phrased any of this(they say you won’t remember what a person did or said but you remember how it made you feel) but I actually wanted to leave at that point. My friend also felt that it had been a pretty rude conversation. As a former server there are ways to phrase things and she obviously wasn’t too worried about how she came off. When we ordered she was a decent server although I sat with an empty glass for quite some time and the restaurant was not busy and I wanted more wine :) Then the bill came and we each wanted to pay a 3rd. She acted as if we had asked her to solve a riddle. She said that she could split it in terms of what people had but I just did the math instead of waiting for that to happen. Again she came off quite rude when discussing this and I feel servers should be able to divide by 3(rounding would have been fine). If the service had been good I would have given this place possibly even a 4.5 but she just really wasn’t super pleasant. The salty chocolate mousse is amazing by the way and I highly recommend it :) We only found out about it because we saw someone eating it and asked and she said it was on the desert menu which we didn’t even know existed. It is a pretty small menu, they should possibly just put the deserts on the same page or at least let you know there is one :)

It was a busy Sat. and altho we didn’t have a reso, we were given the booth which was a great place to sit. Our impression was positive from the start. We tried a few different entrees including the smoked salmon and braised pork which were a bit on the average side but still good; the real winners of the night were the mushroom and gruyère tarts and they were so tasty that a second was ordered at our table. Also ordered the apple crisp with caramel sauce and the chocolate raspberry mousse desserts which were pretty standard but absolutely delicious. The sommelier and his pleasant treatment made the place worthwhile. Altho service was a tad slow and the whole«French» theme is a bit done, it’s certainly a welcome change to the ‘hood. I’d definitely return when wanting to try something new, if for nothing else than the wine and tarts, of course.

Made a whimsical stop here for a quick bite and sip. Ate the raw fish duo and prosciutto salad. Very impressed with both. We each tried a cocktail from the menu. There are only a few offered and they are spin-offs of classics but quite nice! Clean and crisp appearance. A nice bistro for Granville shoppers.

I’ve eaten here a few times and their menu is getting a bit broader so 5 stars it gets. I’ve had some salmon, shepherd’s pie, duck and pork confit, and confit tart(duck and pork,). They were all VERY delicious. The shepherd’s pie felt like it came out of a nuclear oven, it was scorching hot. The confit and duck l’orange were mouth wateringly awesome although as of last night, the confit tart replaced the confit so be prepared for the menu to change. They also might have some wines available that aren’t up on the board so have fun and explore. I’m really enjoying this place!

This place popped recently in my neighbourhood and I’m so happy it did. I went there last night. Very nice little place yet with a high end touch that you can feel with the service and the wine selection they have(some very lovely wine menu). If you’re there to eat try their mushroom and Gruyère tart, just lovely. They had salmon on special too. And yes. It was truly lovely too. I’m definitely going back!

Stepped in on their opening day as a website was mentioning this place. Took a friend with me to check out the digs and after circling the block for over 20 minutes I was able to find a parking spot and finally was able to get into this place. It’s in an area of the Granville Street stretch that is busy, located less than half a block in on the West side of the street, the place from the outside has a very ‘cool’ ‘hip’ look, a nice place for a first date maybe, it’s a casual place with a good look of class, something different to. We came in and were greeted right away and sat at a two seater booth pretty close to the bar, and the semi-open kitchen. We were presented two menu’s, one would be the food they serve here, the other, the drink menu, also on the back wall was a big black chalkboard showing their wine’s seperated from white to red, two bubbles, and on the bottom, some charcuterie and cheeses. We started out from the top of the menu ordering the lemon pepper cashews. When they came out, it was on a beautiful wooden board, looking like it was spilled from a glass jar. Talk about presentation, this thing just looked right, and then we decided to pick at it. My friend Jay was saying. dude these are good, I went at it. and in no time they just magically disappeared in our mouths, I think the next time I have these, I’m ordering a drink first. These roasted devils, were done perfectly, caramilized from the roasting, with a hint of sweetness in them, let’s just say if they sold these in a jar at the front I might have taken one home. and come back another day to get a refill! My buddy ordered the beer braised pulled pork on their savoury tart. This thing also came out on a big wooden slab. We are used to seeing pulled pork in little buns, well, think of pulled pork topped on a rectangular phyllo pastry. This was ok, as we found the pastry bottom, the corners a little thick, and tough. Next up was the charcuterie plate, where I chose 3 items for $ 15(the breakdown is 1 for $ 7, 3 for $ 15, and 5 for $ 21) and we picked two meats and one cheese from the board. They support the local farms in BC with both their meats and cheeses and we ended up picking the catlaina chorizo, capicolla, and Holland Vintage gouda. Each was real good, and with drink in hand it just made my glass a little bit more empty each bite I took. If I could find that gouda… it would be sitting in my fridge! The drink of choice for tonight was the ‘Tuxedo’ which was a mixture of icewine, brandy, vermouth, orange bitters. It was good, not too stiff, easy drinking, something I definitely can recommend to order. I expect to be back to try more things, a 4.5 in my book(even though Unilocal doesn’t allow me to .5 anything…) I had a great time here, and that was even after coming out and seeing my car getting ticketed(damn stupid meter maids who can’t be real cops, bleep *&^*%%) so watch out when you park around here, but I’m glad they opened up a place like this. As I said, whether you have a date, or just want to chill out with a friend, this is the place to come to. The service is top notch, from our server who gave us a good time, and some comedy from the small talk, to one of the guys(who I believe maybe one of the owners) who asked us all the way through how things were. So this is an early review… but definitely recommended to come in here, have a seat, eat some nuts, have some drinks, and enjoy the night.
