I’ve never had such a bad sushi experience. My sister and I came here after she’d previously been; she said it was good. Now we both think differently. Such disappointment. We waited 45 minutes(!!!) for pressed salmon and spicy tuna combo. Both orders were smothered with sauce; it was extremely difficult to taste the fish. They served the most diluted green tea that I’d sincerely would call it ‘green-tea-flavoured’ hot water. The $ 26 I had to pay, were not worth the food nor service we received at all! NEVER coming back!!!

My foodie friend made a reservation at The Sushi Bar for my birthday dinner. She called in few days in advance for omakase menu. When I walked in, it’s a small Japanese restro run by Chinese. I’m not sure what to expect and what will surprise me! The first course was sashimi — it came in huge plate with live lobster, botan ebi, sockeye salmon and O-toro! The lobster absolutely was the star, it’s so fresh and crunchy! Botan Ebi so sweet and tasty! Sockeye salmon was great and O-Toro melted in my mouth. Beef sashimi — It’s so good as you can see the marble evenly on each sliced of beef. Alburi salmon, ebi, hotate — Aburi-style sushi with artful presentation of salmon, ebi and scallop. It really pleased my eyes and stomach. Sake clams — I liked sake clams, the broth so light with sake taste. Lobster miso soup — It’s tasty and only had a small bowl coz we prefer to leave some room for next course. Chicken wings — Very crispy and delicious. Grilled garlic octopus — The garlic smelled so good and octopus perfectly cooked. We got the highest-quality sashimi and other dishes on this meal! I would recommend to call in advance to reserve some special sashimi and they could do it! This is a gem hidden on West 4th!

The sushi bar is my favourite place in the city for sushi, I have been going there for 2+ years and I have never had a bad order. It is always fresh:)

Hands down worst sushi I’ve ever had. Rice was old, tuna was actually still frozen and my box was full of onions? I had to search for the roll amongst the onions — roll was tiny and poorly made too. Should have guessed it would be bad from the fact that the place was absolutely empty at 8pm on a Saturday night. Server was rude and miserable. Disappointed.

I’m very sadden to give a bad review. I use to come here very often around 2004 – 2005 and I was loving it. I know it’s 10 years ago… Well it’s really not as good as it was. Still the same name and the same menu items. The décor has changed a bit. But the miso soup was bland. The gyoza too oily and bland as well. There were floaters in my water. The Kamikaze and volcano rolls were okay, but not as flavorful. Maybe the owners have changed. Maybe I have change more than I thought or a case of the souvenir was better than the reality. But it just a bland imitation of what it used to be.

I love Japanese food. I always order bento from Japanese restaurant. Sushi bar boxes are amazing. You can have little bit everything and the price is low. Compare to other Japanese restaurant one bento they sell it for 9−10dollar, other restaurant sell it 12−15dollar. Also they got some fantastic Roll! RICE is not very heavy.

I hate giving bad reviews but had lunch here today and wouldn’t go back. After I got seated, I saw the waitress 3 times. The first time she asked me if I’d like a drink and I said, a green tea please. Never came. The second time she asked me for my order and I asked for a chicken teriyaki box. I got served a beef one instead! The third time she was cleaning my table as I waited behind a group of students who were each paying separately for their lunches to pay my bill at the cash register. So many great sushi places. This is not one of them. The food was barely average. Definitely nothing special or even memorable.

The food took forever to come and when it does it’s alright. This was my first time here, the lady was rude instead of bringing our food or checking to see if it was done. She was cleaning chairs and just wondering around the restaurant giving me this weird eye like I was a bother to her! Was not a pleasant visit.

Slow and unapologetic. Call ahead if getting takeout. I waited almost 40 minutes and noticed other patrons not getting the correct orders.

Made a reservation here for an exec social. The place was a lot more deserted than I expected, but that worked out well for the group of us. Got the Godzilla roll on the special menu — pretty good quality and quite the spicy experience with the jalapeño on top. Price: $ 9 for a special roll, pretty standard Service: the waiter was nice enough, but he was the only one for the whole restaurant… Wait time was bearable though.

We were regulars here for a very long time and this place was a 4.5÷5. We loved it! Unfortunately our last couple trips things have gone downhill. Not sure but I think it may be new ownership. Nothing is as fresh and delicious as it once was. Greasy noodles, stale rice, mediocre fish.

I’m quite surprised with the good reviews… and unfortunately, i think this place is only a «okay» place. Normally I come here during lunch time as I work nearby. The lunch combos are decently priced for the portion they give. The waitress that has her hair tied, is the ONLY person that gives great services. Always check on what I need… Otherwise, the others are just ridiculous with their attitudes. They accept cash & cards.

I LOVE this place! It’s really close to my office and I order from here often. The bento boxes are my fave especially the chicken teriyaki. Nothing compares to the crunchiness and the delicious sauce. You get a huge portion of food for 7.95! The sushi is good always fresh. It does take a while for your food to be ready but it’s a small resto and you know your food is always being prepared to order. My only complaint is that their miso soup is not the best, wish it was saltier.

You can call for take out if u work/live near by-It only takes 15 – 20 mins and it’s yummy. Ordered takeout from them for the first time this afternoon. Got the Rainbow roll, crunch roll, tuna tataki roll, the Dragon Roll and some agedashi tofu. My co-workers and I all had enough food to go through(each roll was 8 – 10 pieces) and all the flavors were wonderful. Great service when we went to pick it up too. The only thing that could have used a little more pep was the agedashi tofu-maybe a different sauce to dip it in or a spicy option. Other than that-this place is a winner for quick, yummy, relatively inexpensive sushi. I also saw that you can get your sushi with brown rice which I’ll have to test out next time.

Very average, not authentic, decent value. Ordered the dragon roll, found the avocado a bit too hard. And house roll was just ok. It’s an ok place if you’re not expecting much. Decent sized, bar seating available. typical parking issues. accepts debit/credit.

Feeds me for under $ 10! The experience begins with free genmaicha tea. Win! I recommend the veggie tempura rolls, they are mouth-wateringly crunchy. I’m nuts for gomae, and The Sushi Bar does it right! Some places drench the spinach in thick sauce, but this one is spot-on and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Check out the features board, I saw a crab and avocado roll which sounded unreal, gotta try it next time. They do take-out, and have a stack of newspapers available. Has anyone noticed the radio station they play usually rocks out the early 2000’s one-hit-wonders? I can dig it!

I love this place! The prices are right, and the wild salmon sashimi can go head to head with anyone else’s in town. They have hot dishes as well, which our kids enjoy. For value for money spent, hands down the #1 place in Vancouver.
