Vera’s Burger Shack

My friend and I enjoyed our burgers on a Saturday night. I got a veggie wrapped lamb burger with mushrooms on the top; she ordered a regular cheese burger. Server was kind and fast.

Great Food. Of all the Vera Burger shops I have eaten at this one is the best. The owner is on site and really takes care of his clients well. Staff are fun and friendly. Highly recommend this place.

The battle of the Main Street burger joints divides my family. I prefer Vera’s, my husband prefers Splitz.
Why I like Vera’s better– the topping combos on the menu, the daily specials, and the taste of the beef patty here. Overall, I just like the taste better at Vera’s. The burgers are more savoury and satisfying to me. The BBQ burger with bacon & provolone is awesome.
The fries are a shade better at Splitz, but not enough to be a deal breaker. The option to get half & half rings or fries or sweet potato fries puts Vera’s back in the win column though.
The deal breaker, unfortunately, is the lack of seating. Trying to get room for a family of 4 is difficult here. We could get take out, of course, but my husband’s burger fanaticism is such that he hates eating burgers that have cooled down even a bit. For less picky burger eaters, it’s an option though.

Excellent poutine, even better burgers. Service was prompt and helpful. Really top notch buns too, which are easy to overlook, but make a big difference.

Food was good, put together with fresh ingredients. Lost a star because the staff were having a kind of awkward conversation in the kitchen area, which is open to the dining area.

The best among the burgers I have had recently. Thick patty, bacon with good quality, cheese, everything was amazing. I got a Monday daily deal, which comes with a bacon cheese burger, 20oz pop, and fries.

It’s way better than the Davie street location. Not sure why but it seems like the staff here on Main is friendlier. Lots of fries this time with my burger and the guy working there told me there was a daily burger deal. Got the Bacon Cheeseburger meal with fries and a drink. The burger was big and it barely fits inside my mouth. Messy but that is how I like it! Luckily there was lots of napkins otherwise I would have sauce all over my mouth and chin!

Ordered the 6 oz. Vera with raw onions, and chipotle mayo, and a side of sweet potato fries. The most delicious burger I have had in a long time. Will certainly be back!

The least favourite of all of them, simply in terms of atmosphere; doesn’t have the Kits action or Gastown nice loft style.
Food’s still consistent and deleesh burgers.

It’s… really not any different from any of the regular Vera’s Burger Shacks. I had a chicken burger with the works and it was good but it wasn’t out of the ordinary. The people are nice and the service is decent. I guess nothing out of the ordinary is also good news?

Awesome burgers The Chicken is my favourite. What absolutely makes this place deserves 5 stars, is the owner. He is the friendlies and knows me and my BF have become regulars — and remembers our orders. And gives us free chipotle mayo sometimes. I’ve never even been disappointed here. Go have some burgers here!

It’s a burger place, not fine dining. Good selection, good prices and fast service. Plus beer. Beer is always good.

Discovered that they’re participating in the BYOW program and corkage is only $ 2! I mean, what’s better than having a bottle of wine with my burger and fries? Nothing fancy here and they don’t have wine glasses so be prepared to drink your wine from a tall glass. Hey, never said I was classy.
Good selection of protein, toppings and condiments.
They also have a birthday club so sign up online and get a free $ 10 gift certificate to use on your birthday. It’s great because it’s valid for dine-​in AND take-​out.
I’m all about the deals!

My best friend and I wanted a burger, standard fair, decent place to shop talk music and to eat burgers. We went months ago, however, never returned ’cause for a burger it was $$$, plus our order was forgotten about not once but twice.

Veras is a franchise and like any franchise, the quality of the experience is heavily governed by its owner. The Veras on Main is run by a young guy named Anthony — and he gets it. He greets you when you come in the door, thanks you when you leave, and makes awesome burgers. He doesn’t cheat on the quality of the ingredients, and he treats the regulars really well — often greeting them by name.
A business like his is what makes Mt. Pleasant a neighborhood. Go say hi next time you get a burger.

Gave this place the benefit of a second chance and it was a mistake. The quality is not great and the prices are crazy high. Vera clearly values her grease.
Food:
— I’ve had a burger and now a chicken sandwich («The Big Chick»). The burger patty is mixed with a bunch of pepper and spices. I hate this. This is what you do when your beef is poor. High quality beef tastes great in a burger– that is why everyone loves backyard bbq burgers.
— The chicken sandwich was a mess. Way too many grilled onions, tomatoes, and lettuce adding way too much moisture– the whole thing fell apart. I liked the choice of provolone cheese, but this was a soggy mess (and I hate that). Major letdown.
— The onion rings are forgettable. Not great, not terrible. Expensive. I’ve had better frozen onion rings.
Customer service is ok, but the pricing, holy crap. The last time I was there I think I got a burger deal for like $ 13 + tax or such… and I didn’t think it was worth it. This time just the sandwich and onion rings were $ 19.02 after tax. What? $ 20 for a chicken sandwich and onion rings from a take out place? I could eat at a nice sitdown place, be served, and get a drink for the same price.
I won’t be back again. These pepper burgers and soggy chicken sammies are too rich for my blood.

This birthday outing for my partner was headed downhill, super fast!
Months ago, I had signed him up for the $ 10 Birthday coupon, and he was excited! But… the coupon arrived in the email box, and it would not print! No! Forwarded the email to my good neighbour — coupon printed, but not the vital information. Great for Vera’s security, crappy for a birthday lunch.
Put a call through to corporate office; well, two calls. Now, this took some work. Fortunately, my day job involves acute medical situations — so I am calm under pressure. I’ll save the tiresome details — but! Judy from corporate office, you rock and you made this birthday extra special!
We ordered the Stinger and the Baja with extra jalapenos and flavour shots. We went all out and had fries and onion rings, and fountain pop!
The burgers were big and juicy and wonderfully messy. A good tasting bun, along with fresh ‘n tasty lettuce and tomatoes, and we were happy as clams. We went after the lunch rush, so got the primo window seat against the north wall; watched the action on Main Street.
Vera’s is my partner’s fave burger, and this location is walking distance from home — a good way to wear off the calories from this fabulous lunch! My guy had a happy birthday!

First time at this Vera’s… not quite like my smokey fav on Davie St… not quite as polished as the Gastown one… but a nice blend between… and the person taking the orders /​cooking was a bang up great person in service work. She rocked!
Great experience… and might hike my way this way more often…

Great lamb burgers! But they need whole wheat buns!!!
