Definitely DTES meets west side here. The first time I came to this space in October, I had to ask multiple people if I was in the right spot. The W2 could confuse you since right now, it lives in what was an old heritage house across the street from the Woodwards towers. If you drive, you’ll probably miss it. Walk west from Abbot on the south side of Hastings. if you get to Cambie, you’ve gone too far. :-) The black façade makes it feel like it could possibly still be under construction, but don’t be fooled: once you’re past the door(don’t forget to look up to see the«flames») it’s a different world. An art gallery backdrop with artists works line the walls of the first floor with 3 more floors serving as meeting space and a digital communications hub. With discussions of democratic media, various platforms, forums, wine flowing, cameras recording, this space really draws in a diverse crowd. I’m told parties will be happening all month long, along with various forms of media using this as a central hub through the games. This space is sure to be bopping… often into the wee morning hours I’m sure!
