Since the salon I used to go to closed down, I had to find a new place to go, so after looking around and reading enough positive reviews, I decided to try Carreiro. I was not disappointed. My stylist was Amanda and she did an amazing job with my hair(I’m not even sad that I had about four inches taken off and this is the shortest my hair has been in 15+ years). One of the things I liked about it is that while the place was very professional, high-quality, the atmosphere also manages to be very down-to-earth in personality, if that makes any sense. I’ll definitely be back(I’ve already booked my next appointment).

How many times in the past have I sallied into a high end salon, to have an aloof hipster kid manage to simultaneously ignore me and give me an average haircut then charge me $ 90, and afterwards while I’m reeling at the cash desk a receptionist named Dre’ashlee tries with all her hair-tossing might to talk me into paying another $ 50 for a tiny vial of some obscure European brand’s hair goo called«Farté Sur Les Cheveux Radikal Mucilage». Really, I’m not bitter. It’s just that I love fancy salons, but hate the foolishness that accompanies them. What I’m trying to say is, Carreiro is ideal for me: stylish but unpretentious. Lovely James gave me a great cut, and none of the usual pressure to buy product. Which means(are you listening, you other salons?) that I will probably go back, and also buy their products. Nice and simple.

I was in Victoria this weekend for a friend’s Birthday. I am originally from Vancouver, but live in Seattle. While all my friends were whale watching I went for a massage and then decided to get a haircut. The Grand Pacific suggested Aveda, and having been their many times before(in Seattle) I called for an appointment. Lucky for me they were all booked, because if I had booked an appointment with them I would not have received the best haircut of my life. The concierge of the Grand Pacific had also provided me with your salon’s number, I called and spoke with a very friendly individual named Amanda. She also happened to be the stylist working on my hair that day. She was very knowledgeable and after assessing the health of my hair suggested that we only take off a couple of inches. I wanted to keep my hair long, but with the amount of volume I normally get I usually feel great walking out right after the cut, but the days following feel weighted down by the lack of amount taken off. I am extremely low maintenance, I literally wake up, shower, put clothes on and run out the door. I never blow dry my hair, style or even apply any make up. When my hair is not cut properly it leads to extreme volume, so much that I normally have to put it up half way through the day. I feel good about hair cuts for one or two days but then just feels like I same old same old. It was totally different with Amanda, she cut and trimmed, layered and styled my hair into the perfection that it is today. I was going out that night and she even took a little extra time to pop some curls in my hair so that I looked fabulous for my evening out. The layers create perfect framing around my face and even allow for a little natural curl at the end. Honestly my hair doesn’t look as good as when she styled it, but this is seriously the best hair cut I have ever had. I hope that sometime I can get back up there for another one.

I have been a client of Carreiro the Studio for umph-years now. I started out having the owner/director — John Carreiro, as my stylist(John is an absolute genius with scissors). Then, I had Jayson(who has since opened his own salon — another very talented stylist) then, David(great stylist who has been in the industry for years,) and now I see Lucy, who does my cuts and colour(she has colour intuition, a perfectionist, and a great personality too). I can’t say enough good things about Lucy and the entire team of Carreiro. They are magic. From Jana and the ladies who are the salon’s concierges(and models), to the stylists, apprentices and atmosphere… If you want to look like a movie star and be treated like one for a few blissful hours, book at Carreiro. They manage to have a great, professional attitude and a plethora of talent, sans the pretentiousness; With that said, you could take turns rotating your bookings between every stylist there and you won’t experience an iota of attitude from the other. Lastly, to be fair: in the six or so years I have been a client, I have only had to go back for a slight color-tone-fix once. No matter where you go, once in a blue moon, something will not turn out as perfect as you’d anticipated. I beleive it’s how a professional handles the«oops-ups» that counts and Carreiro stepped up and remedied the slight mishap, pronto. They also treat me and the rest of their clients like VIP’s. I am 100% confident that team Carreiro will go above and beyond your expectations too.

This ‘studio’ manages to feel modern but still remain welcoming, and the service is friendly. My haircut was great, cost $ 35 + tip, and I really have no complaints. The person that I saw was Kelsey Carvalho.
