We waited almost an hour for our food(and it was not busy) and the food was pretty tasteless. I wish I could get my money back.

Simply amazing flavours. Never met a curry here I haven’t loved!

This was by far the worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. And I have eaten my fair share of Indian food, as my fiancé is from the UK! We waited about an hour for our food, when it came the portion size was ridiculous for the price. No apologies for the wait time. They give you papadams with no condiments, that’s unheard of. You have to pay for the condiments, about $ 2.75. When I ordered Kuku Paka, it didn’t normally come with vegetables and the waitress suggested I get some. The vegetables were definitely out of a bag of frozen veggies and still freezer burnt which watered down my curry… which didn’t help things as the curry already tasted like it came out of a can. The icing on the cake was when I found a short and curly hair in my sweet lassi. I paid $ 45 for canned soup, frozen vegetables, and a short and curly hair in my drink. Never again. I you want a good curry go to Masala Bites down the street… they’re always full for a reason!

I rarely give a one star rating, but this place was a special kind of bad. I ordered Gobi Aloo and Chicken Tikka. The Chicken was dry and served on a plate with about a spoonful of rice, a salad, and some sort of weird potato and ketchup thing One of the wonderful things about Indian food is the complexity of the spices that give the food a flavorful taste. The Gobi Aloo(cauliflower and potato) was prepared in this strange concoction that tasted like ketchup and cayenne. The worst part: We were charged for a tablespoonful of leathery chutney that came with the papadums. Thats like charging for the condiments that come with your hot dog. The service was also really, really slow. It was a terrible dining experience.

The Spice Jammer uses fresh spices made to your preferred intensity of heat and high quality ingredients. The food is spectacular. Mango lassie is silky smooth and a great sweetness juxtaposed to the heat of the spicy food. Cap off the meal with a nice chi tea. This is quite literally the best Indian food I have ever eaten, and I LOVE Indian food. You MUST eat here.

Service: Very slow and unattentive. Ambiance: Very quiet, calm and a little strange. I suppose I’m used to to your typical family run Indian restaurant situated in a strip mall with a team of bustling, authentically Indian waitstaff. This place had very tall blonde waitresses that were extemely gentle and more than a little spaced out. Weird… Food: Exceptional. Not entirely what you’d expect from a traditional Indian restaurant but really, really good. Incredibly nuanced and flavorful. Wow. I’m dying to see the chef… If I was just rating service and ambiance, it would be a stretch to say 2 stars but, have to say the food was well worth the wait — 5 stars.

Did not taste fresh and flavourful. Overpriced for the poor quality and portion size! Never again

Very very expensive place, you have to pay separate for nan($ 3:00 for a tiny nan), $ 4.00 for rice which means you pay $ 16.00 for a main dish, then $ 3 for nan, $ 4 for rice and couple of appetizers, your would pay up to $ 30 plus drink, plus tips and taxes so no worth. Food is also not great, it’s not even near to Indian food. They use tandori masala on every thing and not cooked the way Indian food is cooked. They also don’t have great variety of vegetarian dishes. Samosa were tiny, they were not fresh, they were same what you purchase from supermarket. Nan was burned.

Not a very pleasant experience. The flavors were very subdued, quantity child sized and all dishes are ah la carte, so you end up having to order rice or you slurp the curry. The service on the other hand was very polite with smiles all around.

Butter chicken was delicious! Tikka Masala was really, really good. Naan didn’t knock my socks off, but it did the job. I would certainly return to(and recommend) this place.

Excellent food, very good service, good prices. We started with the Beef-Stuffed Naan appetizer, which was good(perhaps a tiny bit heavy on the cilantro, but no real complaints). Then my date had the Chicken Tikka Masala(«amazing») while I had a boneless lamb curry, which was fantastic. Both were with mild spice. The meat was succulent and soft, and the sauces were really well done; not overpowering, and very flavorful. We split a half litre of house white(Chardonnay), which was perfect for the two of us. The white wine paired well with our curries, too. We finished off by sharing a piece of excellent chocolate mouse cake, and left feeling a little stuffed, but very satisfied. Total bill(appetizer, 2 mains, dessert, ½ L wine) not including tip, was under $ 75. Great value, great food, and highly recommended!

OMG that was an incredible Indian meal. When traveling we often look for Indian restaurants and this time we scored big. We found the restaurant listed in the visitor’s guide in the apartment where we were staying and thought we would give it a try. We had walked by earlier in the day and it looked like it was a nice, clean restaurant. It is not in the heart of downtown Victoria, rather a little on the edge. At night, the neighborhood seemed a little more on the edge as we walked to the restaurant and most of the shops on the street were dark and there was not a car in sight in front of the restaurant. We also saw a few folks setting up camp in doorways as we were walking«home.» To get into the dining room you walk through a bar area, which was completely empty of patrons. I was feeling a little nervous, but as we approached the dining room I could hear the din of happy patrons so I relaxed a little and I am so glad I didn’t retreat at the door. We started with stuffed naan. I ordered chicken and my husband ordered a combination of beef and jalapenos, then we shared. They were both very good. The accompanying yogurt sauce was also very good and complimented both of the naan dishes quite well. The tamarind sauce was a little too sweet for me. For entrees, I selected Chicken Tikka Masala with medium heat and my husband selected Vindaloo Lamb, hot. The spices and heat on mine were just perfect. As I could tell that the Vindaloo was indeed hot, I tried just a small bite and it was very good as well. I have to say that when it comes to ratings of anything it is very difficult to get a «perfect score» from me and this place, from it’s friendly waitstaff to the wonderful food earned every single star. This is most definitely a place I would return to and will be one of many great memories of our time in Victoria.

We visited the Spice Jammer while on vacation last week, The food was delicious — probably the best Indian chicken dish that I have ever had! The service was wonderful, they told us up front that since they make everything fresh, it would take a little longer than normal. They were really busy the night that we were there, so it did take a while for our food, but we knew going into it that it would be on the longer side. We told our hosts at our B&B about the wonderful food, so hopefully they will send some more people over there!

An interesting mix of african and indian flavours– a bit different from your typical indian restaurant in this sense. Our butter chicken was great and just the right amount of heat for us. It was a tad on the pricey side, but their four-course special on tuesdays looked like a fantastic deal; I would go back and try that out for sure.

So, my brother and cousin took an annual motorcycle trip from Oregon. This time to BC. I dearly love Indian cooking and found Spice Jammer on Unilocal.I know a little about Indian cooking, having lived for several years in England where Indian cuisine is wonderful(never been to India, sigh…). The food was impeccable(didn’t do the buffet – I’m not a fan of Indian buffets, and so can’t comment on theirs). The service was great with Gen. Billy(sp?) is herself Indian, having lived in Kenya, and has cooked for 20 years. She came out to talk with us. Ali, her son, was very knowledgeable, and patiently explained to us cooking techniques, etc. Obviously, this is a family-owned restaurant, and they are justly proud of their food. Wished I lived closer to BC just to have dinner there again. The three of us – brother, cousin, and I – recommend this restaurant without reservation.

My favorite restaurant in Victoria, BC. Terrific Indian dinners with an African twist. Stellar service, best naan around, fabulously flavored vegetables like aloo mattar paneer, and a mango shake to die for!

Decent food, tops for service. Went for their buffet. As far as food goes, it’s not bad, but the buffet does not have a large selection. Standard buffet fare for an Indian restaurant. Of course buffet food seldom shines so it’s a poor representation of the quality of the menu. The service, however, really shines. The staff are helpful and attentive. A staff member followed me along the buffet line, lifting the lids from the dishes so I could see what was in them and help myself if I wished. She explained what each dish was and made helpful suggestions as to what I might want to try. Throughout the entire meal they were not pushy or overly smothering, but definitely they went the extra mile to ensure you were satisfied. I certainly wouldn’t mind dining here again, probably to try something from the menu.

Not your usual curry joint. The restaurant site touts the restaurant as being east african indian and there is certainly something a bit different about the flavors. The butter chicken was superb with a sauce that was very complex and somewhat similar to an oaxacan mole. The lamb vindaloo was divine.
