If you don’t know this place is here it’s easy to miss. Don’t miss it! I always thought it was a pub but discovered it in my ongoing search for the best eings in victoria. So it is an easy walk from home. We wandered down to check it out. Order at the bar on your way in and clear your own dished. Ok. I ordered a full order of green coconut curry wings and a half order of inferno with a small fries and a pint of Blue Buck. The curry coconut wings were ok. Not a favorite. Luckily they have 18 more flavors for me to work my way through. The wings are meaty. Maybe a little overcooked. The curry was mediocre maybe even a little bland. The shredded coconut was sweet and seemed odd on wings to me. The inferno wings were hot. Maybe the hottest I have had here in victoria yet. I’m glad I opted for a half order. The tasted a lot like Franks Red Hot maybe with some added peppers to boost the heat. They were good. The fries were great. The beer ice cold. I will be trying this place again soon. I want to try the garlic wings and the candied bacon wings next.

Found this place by happy accident. We got the chicken wings with garlic and sweet chili. Delicious! Yummy enough that we had to get another order of the sweet chili wings to share with our daughter. We added the loaded fries to the mix and I was in heaven. Like a loaded baked potato, but with crispy fries. Next time we’re in the area we’ll be on the lookout.

This place was a happy surprise. Burgers, wraps, salads that you order at the counter. Food is delicious. Greens and veggies are fresh. Atmosphere is pleasant. Our group had the falafel wrap, chicken club wrap and the special burger with blue cheese. Plus we had poutine and loaded fries. Don’t miss this place.

They have Philips beer on tap. The service has always been good. The green coconut curry wings de-fucking-licious. They have Battleship! That’s all I care about so… We’re done here.

I think the Tartan Toque is my new favorite hang-out. Just a short walk from Fernwood, the Tartan Toque is kind of hidden and would be easy to miss if you weren’t looking. They have a ton of different sauce options for bone-in or boneless wings, like Green Curry Coconut, Creamy Dill, or Chipotle Maple, as well as a whole menu of other items. Their burgers aren’t fancy, more like something you would make at home, but they’re delicious. The menu includes a bunch of vegetarian options including a massive falafel and veggie wrap. Everything is very well priced, service is friendly without being smothering *ahem*Floyds*ahem* and there are board games scattered throughout. So if you’re looking for somewhere to share some wings, a pitcher of beer or boozey milkshake, and play Battleship, the Tartan Toque is the place to go. The only thing that keeps them from getting 5 stars from me is their early close time.

I decided to check this place out as I go to Origin Gluten Free Bakery now and again and always see it. When I went in I noticed that they won the most recent Times Columnist award for best wings in the city. Well that needed to be tested. I didn’t have a tonne of time so I ordered a pound of their Honey Garlic Wings. SONOTDISAPPOINTED! They were perfectly crisp on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside, dripping in wonderful honey and the garlic part was fresh real chunks of garlic! HEAVENINMOUTH! Also to be noted for all you no gluten people out there, since they are a few doors down from Origin. .. . almost everything is GLUTEN-FREE! Enjoy like I did.

I’ve only tried one thing, the crispy chicken wrap with candied bacon sauce and it was awesome. I didn’t feel so great later, but this isn’t exactly a raw-superfood kind of place, so I knew what I was getting into. I’d go back if i’m in a greasy kind of mood, but for me this is a once-in-a-while kind of establishment.

Sadly disappointed. We had high hopes after hearing about the Tartan Toque and we were excited to get in before dinner rush so it wasn’t too busy. 3 of us ordered 2lbs of wings each so 6 kinds in total. All 3 of us had one kind of wings which was really really not good and one kind which was OK but not even close to memorable. OK flavours: Buffalo, Jerk, Chipotle Maple Bad flavours: candied bacon(had about ½ inch of broken icing in the bottom of the tray), cajun(was just boring really, lacked punch or flavour) and the pesto, omg the pesto. The pesto was completely lacking flavour at all, in fact I could barely tell that it was pesto flavoured. Every person at the table was unimpressed and disappointed. Some of the wings were a bit overcooked but not too badly. Even when it wasn’t very busy, the layout does not lend itself well to the awkward lineup which must form at the bar in order to order. I’ve had much better wings at places which didn’t seem to specialize in them.
