I really wanted to like this place. I have heard so many good things about it. Maybe I came on an off day? I first stumbled upon here when my colleague and I had to evacuate Scotia Place due to a fire drill. We decided to take the train back to our office since we were not wearing any jackets. When we entered Central Station, we soon discovered Burrow. I ordered an americano to go. It tasted fine but I felt it was a little steep in price. I noticed their food menu and decided that I would have to come back here sometime and order lunch. Yesterday I did just that and ordered the chicken stew with garlic toast. I felt that the portion of the stew I received was small for the $ 9 I paid. I was still hungry after the fact. Second, it was quite salty and overtook any of the other flavours that were in the stew. I could barely taste the sage that was in it and I like sage when seasoned properly. The garlic toast was good — not too buttery and just the right amount of garlic. But again, the portion was small. I will say this that guys who were working were pleasant. I think it’s a great concept and convenient for LRT passengers but it has room to improve. I do not believe that I will not go out of my way to stop here for a coffee or lunch again.

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this place has become a morning essential for me. It’s also making me poor. As I normally end up spending $ 14 here. It’s worth it, but it’s really adding up.

Great cappuccinos! Friendly staff. Freshly made breakfast sandwiches with thick bacon. And daily soup specials. Support local. Hours could be stretched to 3 for coffee break. But no complaints

My daily go-to for a perfect latte. The attention to detail on the milk is what sets them apart. The baristas are real people who have humour and care about the products.

Love it!!! So convenient! Americano was great too! Only steps away from the LRT trains at central

When Burrow first opened up it was amazing!!! The food was fantastic and the coffee was D’lish. The last few times I’ve gone it has not been great but today it was downright terrible. My mocha was half syrup and disgusting, and my steel cut oats looked and tasted like they had just been reheated daily for a week. $ 10 for stuff I ended up throwing out… I have noticed a change in staff so I’m not sure if that is what is contributing to the declining quality issues but I won’t be back until they fix them.

Burrow is an apt name for this cute little coffee stop, nestled underground in the LRT station. This spot was recommended to me by a local friend, a coffee aficionado like myself, that I had met just a the day before. The gentleman at the cashier was knowledgeable and friendly. I mentioned that I was visiting from California and as a resident of San Francisco, and was familiar with and excited to see Four Barrel beans are sold here. Oh San Francisco? Have you been to The Mill? Yes, of course! Have you had their hipster toast? Of course! Just like that, coffee hipster connection made! The personable and friendly interaction at the register made my morning. The cappuccino I ordered was very delicate, rather dominated by the milk. I would have liked some deeper, stronger flavors of espresso, but the drink was still satisfactory. There is no sitting space, so take your goods to go. On my visit in late March, I did not see their board offering sandwiches, only drinks. I hesitate to rate after only one visit, but I would give these four stars for the friendly service and knowledge for the drinks they craft. I would most definitely come back to give their drinks another try next time I’m in the area, who knows when!

I pass by here on my way to work, there is a Starbucks right by, so I use to always go to Starbucks because it’s familiar to me. But I thought I’d try here because I heard they were participating in coffee week, has good reviews, and also-why not try something new? I got a cappuccino with a milk alternative. It’s $ 4 for the cappuccino and $ 1 for the milk substitute, so $ 5 for a cappuccino that is smaller then a tall size at Starbucks, I paid by debit and it asked for a tip(I never not tip at a place that gives the option) so theirs $ 1 extra… overall $ 6!!! It was good, and the service was friendly too(why I give it 3 stars instead of 2) but sorry, I’ll tip for a restaurant experience, not for my morning coffee.

Don’t hate me, please. It just didn’t do it for me. I ordered a latte and a $ 7 breakfast sandwich. $ 7 is a lot for a breakfast sandwich. My latte… I hate to say… Seemed almost watery. I’m not coffee expert, but I do enjoy Transcend and Credo, so I was expecting something similarly delightful. It’s not the taste, it just seemed watery. The breakfast sandwich was good, but I can’t pay $ 7 for it again. I will hopefully go back to try a sandwich at lunch. It is exciting to see a shop open in the LRT underground, and I truly hope this place will be successful. But for my morning latte I’ll be sticking to Credo.

Such a quirky place with excellent food. Their breakfast sandwiches are so scrumptious, and their honey yogourt parfaits are the perfect mix of sweet and granola. The barristas are very friendly. Do be ready to wait a little bit for your food to be ready, however. But the wait is so, so worth it.

After everyone at my work raving about this hidden gem, we finally decided to go looking for them for lunch in the first week of December. They are in Central LRT Station, at the corner of 101 St and Jasper Ave. It is a take away counter with no seating in the area, so you’ll need to head to the Commerce Place food court, or back to work with your grub. For the number of people in line, it seemed to move at a pretty quick and efficient pace. We picked up a couple of sandwiches and soup. I had their mushroom grilled cheese which I would definitely go back for. It was extra cheesy, the mushrooms were sautéed before going in and they were plentiful. The bread was thick and soft. Delicious! Ben was pleased with his sandwich but I was a bigger fan of the dill pickle potato soup. The soup was an interesting flavor that took a few sips to grow on me, then I quickly made it disappear! Last Friday we made another trip back. They have house made caramels with a festive special — Gingerbread Caramels. I am not usually a fan of caramel, but the gingerbread was amazing and really tastes like a thick soft gingerbread cookie. If for nothing else, it is worth the trip to pick up some of these treats!

Thank you Cindy for providing photos! I am a coffee connoisseur, and I am glad for Burrow. They offer just the small and large options for brewed coffee. Why? Probably because they want to make it just one way: the way it’s supposed to be. It’s not burned, it’s not weak, it’s not bitter. Just smooth, drinkable coffee roasted just right. Please don’t put anything in it. It reminds me of Kona coffee from Hawai’i(which I had the pleasure of drinking right at the plantation). This coffee is very mild and not masked by any bitter, smoky taste as dark coffees tend to be. Just slightly acidic and mellow. The other item from Burrow I can comment on is the chocolate chip scone: fresh baked, buttery deliciousness. This was definitely a high-quality treat. You won’t be disappointed. I don’t even have to go outside to enjoy Burrow, as I work in Commerce Place. Kudos to the owners for putting their money into an innovative but convenient location for thirsty urban commuters!

It’s started. I can feel it. When a business opens up shop inside an underground LRT concourse, maybe that’s a sign that Edmonton is growing. You know, aside from the arena and expansion of LRT stations in general. I’m all for more food. More food, more food! Last week, I visited Transcend Mercer on my day off to scout a new blogging space. I figured, might as well turn the morning into a YEG Coffee day, hitting up Burrow for a second cup of caffeine. A bit late on the ball with this one, it opened earlier this month. Nothing is impossible it seems for Nate Box, owner of the newly opened Burrow — the same of Elm Café and District Coffee. It’s awesome that this venture is underground and in a space with high traffic! That’s Burrow’s main aim of course: efficiently pumping out the coffee for the downtown core. No seats, although there’s a small ledge close by at one of the exits. But you don’t really need a seat if you’re on your way to work. Burrow offers coffee from San Francisco’s Four Barrel Coffee Roasters for interested coffee connoisseurs. Pastries are made fresh from District Coffee and a lot of the lunches are prepped in the same kitchen. I was more interested in their grilled cheese option that visit, as 1) I’m no coffee connoisseur, and 2) I was hungry. The menu is on a 4-week rotational schedule and it was going to end that Friday(which means at time of writing, there’s already a new menu). Aged Gouda, cauliflower, squash, and pumpkin seeds. I don’t know how you can overlook that on the menu and order anything else(although after I ordered, a lot of the staff mentioned their favourite was the ham sandwich). MMM, was sooooo good. I know you can’t see much in the picture, but you’ll have to trust me on this one. It’s a grilled cheese sandwich after all, it has to be eaten ASAP. Great combination of fall flavours and with my vanilla latte, I was a happy camper. Because I don’t work in downtown, I don’t see myself visiting Burrow too often unless it was on my way. I prefer to sit down and sip my coffee, read a magazine, or browse the internet and work on blog posts. But for those who work in downtown and happen to take the LRT, Burrow is such an awesome location and offers that much-needed caffeine fix for those on the go. Check them out!
