You will wait a long time for your sushi if there are several other people seated. It is worth the wait 110%. The service is alright(hence 4 stars) but this sushi is to die for.

There are very few authentic Japanese Restaurants and this one is within the the top 5. I was truly impressed and thankful for the experience.

I absolutely love coming to Hikari! The atmosphere is fantastic – cozy and quaint with a modern feel. I love sitting at the bar and watching the chefs work. They’re always really fun to talk with. Staff is friendly but do leave a little to be desired as they may forget to come by and refill your water. The food is delicious and presentation is perfect. I do wish portion sizes were a bit bigger though. I strongly recommend the Hikari style sashimi platter!

Hikari has new menus and they are SO bomb! Solo dining here is fantastic. Off their new menu, I love the following: Bonzai roll — salmon, eel, cucumber wrapped in rice and panko then deep fried topped with tobiko and eel sauce(there’s cream cheese inside too but I asked for none) Shooting star —(I think there’s…) Cucumber, crab, avocado topped with baked fish with eel sauce and topped with tobiko(there’s cream cheese inside this one too but I asked for none) Tonkotsu sliders — A deep fried pork patty(tonkotsu) with their homemade Asian slaw and(I think) teriyaki sauce. I asked to change one of the sliders into soft shell crab(it costs a little extra!) Rock shrimp tempura — It’s tempura shrimp and thinly sliced deep fried peppers in a mayo sauce. SO good. Off their original menu, I love the following: Godzilla roll — tempura shrimp, soft shell crab, scallop, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, wrapped in rice and topped with masago and sesame seeds And of course, their spider rolls. I also had the unagi don which is sinfully delicious and my friend had their lemon chicken special. We were skeptical because it’s usually served in Chinese restaurants but it turned out SOGOOD. It’s crispy, tender chicken with the sauce and white rice on the side and comes with soup! We also had their Caterpillar roll which was delicious with eel and avocado! They also serve deep fried ice cream but I had green tea, mango, and red bean with my friends.

Hikari is a Japanese restaurant located in Downtown Windsor. It’s located inside a house. They offer seating at a sushi bar, dining room, and a couple of tatami rooms. There are stairs, so it’s not accessible. Most of the people I’ve spoken to in Windsor regard Hikari as the #2 sushi restaurant, behind Sushi California. Personally, I prefer Hikari for dinner. Both restaurants offer the typical, sushi with a little bit of traditional Japanese food restaurants. They both offer traditional décor, updated with modern necessities. Both also offer tatami style seating. I’ve had great service at both restaurants. Hikari offers a few«pan Asian/Chinese» dishes for those who not necessarily ready for Japanese food. Both restaurants offer vegetarian options, and with a little explanation, even vegan food. The only reason I hold any preference to Hikari over Sushi California is the price. I find the quality of both restaurants is comparable to what I’ve eaten in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montréal. However, the price for these dishes is anywhere from 20%-100% more expensive. Hikari offers a VERY reasonably priced lunch menu, starting at $ 5.99. I’ve also eaten here for dinner on a few occasions. My man and I ate a ton for around $ 35.00, including soda, tax and tip. Not bad for a Saturday night dinner!

This place is very cute. They have upstair and downstair. Came here with my sister and enjoy the sushi. We came in the afternoon, and was pretty empty. For canada I said this is a ok sushi place.

Quite an experience to dine in at this restaurant. Nothing like I’ve seen in the Windsor area — to have japanese style seating(Thumbs up!) The quality of sushi is amazing — but you get what you pay for, meaning a little $$$. I’d only go here if it was a special occasions. Recommended.

My first time in Windsor, and have a great time, specially at Hikari, loved the ambiance, every single room tastefully decorated. The service was great and the food came quickly. Don’t leave the place without trying Ebi Shumai(steam shrimp dumpling) melt in your mouth, very delicate and can’t stop eating them! Also loved the Beef Tataki, great seasoning… Absolutely will come back to Hikari next time that I’m in town.

Just ok. Super location and space. Their service is a little pretentious, but they get the job done. Their prices aren’t too bad, particularly with a Groupon, which they offer frequently. The fish isn’t the best in town, and it certainly isn’t the worst. It’s fine. You won’t write home about it. You’ll safely arrive home and have enjoyed a decent night out at a cute place.

I thought it was so cute how Hikari is located in a Victorian home. There’s free parking directly adjacent to the home for everyone who doesn’t want to pay for street parking. I entered and was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and openness of the restaurant. I was very impressed with the service but was disappointed with how mediocre the food was. We ordered: — Chicken karaage: it was okay… a little bland, nothing too memorable. I wouldn’t re-order. — Tempura: I ordered the mixed tempura appetizer, which came with 2 shrimps and a few pieces of yam. I liked how they used really light breading and would order again. — Chicken teriyaki lunch: chicken was good, but the sauce was really heavy/hearty. I wouldn’t order again. I wouldn’t go out of my way for Japanese food here, but if you’re in the area, it’s not a bad option. just don’t allow the nice décor to trick you into expecting good food.

The only reason I decided to try out this restaurant was because I purchased a groupon voucher. I’ve had the opportunity to try a wide array of Japanese cuisine in different cities, and in my opinion, this restaurant was a bit disappointing. The prices are pretty steep! I had the chicken teriyaki, and I found the sauce to have a very watery consistency. Additionally, the teriyaki came with the tiniest serving of rice.(They could be a little more generous). The rolls were alright, pretty standard california rolls, spider rolls, and dynamite rolls. The sashimi was $ 12 for a plate which I found to be pricey. I also think that the servers could work on being a little more friendly(the women Lol). In conclusion, I would say that this restaurant is quite mediocre.

Great sushi sold in a Victorian house? Hikari is a Japanese restaurant inside what looks to be a really nice 2 story house. Inside is really nice, and the décor is perfect for that of a date and such. There are regular tables, a sushi bar, and your floor tables for those who want the full experience of squatting while you eat. The service is friendly and the menu is fairly large. They have a wide variety of sushi and hot foods. We started off with the Sashimi Appetizer which came with Salmon, White Tuna, Tuna, and Clam. All of the sashimi was real fresh. It was probably the best sashimi in Windsor. They give you 2 pieces of each. If you like sushi or sashimi, then this is probably your kind of place. The hot foods weren’t that great however, which is mainly the reason for 3 stars instead of 4. We got miso soup, Tempura Shrimp and Vegetables, and the Spicy Shrimp, Scallops, and Squid entrée to share. The miso soup was good, but a bit on the saltier side. The Tempura Shrimp and Vegetables just weren’t that good. It was a little too greasy and there was way more batter than shrimp or vegetable. Not worth the price. The Spicy Shrimp, Scallops, and Squid were just battered pieces of seafood tossed with salt and pepper. They tasted good, but probably doesn’t justify the price(about $ 20). The Shrimp was good as well as the scallops, but the squid was too chewy and tough. Definitely a place to go to for sushi, but avoid the entrees(at least the ones I got). If I do have a sushi craving, I’ll be sure to come back to this place. Not bad at all.

Hikari is located in a Victorian home. Its quite unique.. There are tables where you eat the traditional Japanese way. Its different from your typical sushi places in Windsor. Everything I ate was yummy, ESPECIALLY the asparagus wrapped in steak. OMG, the sauce is amazing!!! 4 ½ STARS for the restaurant. 4 ½ STARS for the food.

What a pleasant surprise to find a quaint Japanese restaurant in Windsor, Ontario. Across the river from Detroit, Windsor itself is a delight… clean, quiet, and homey. Hikari is in a two story Victorian house saddling the residential neighborhood and the downtown. The interior is nicely designed with a beautiful sushi bar with lush wood and tapestries. The sushi(maguro and hamachi) was superb. The tempura soba was tasty(the soup base was a little sweet) and the salad dressing was nice and tangy. All in all, it was worth the hassles of going through customs for a quick taste of Japan in Ontario Canada.
