Hoi was the very first sushi restaurant I ever went to. I thought it was the most amazing place – then I started going other places. Hoi is a great place for students because it’s cheap and they have anything a beginner sushi goer should probably start off with. But I implore you to go to other places. Hoi, like most all you can eat places, really isn’t all that great. If it’s busy they may forget your order and admittedly I have found a hair in my food and when I complained, rather than compensating me financially, they just brought out another roll – which would be okay if I wasn’t at a buffet place(I can just order another roll myself – it doesn’t cost me anything). Again it’s not a terrible place. Just an okay one. Great for the beginner but problematic for the avid sushi fan. I will keep going because it’s close to campus but it’s never my first choice when it comes to Sushi. P.S they continuously forget orders.

Hoi Sushi brings back fond memories of my University of Windsor days. The place itself is practically a staple with the business students at Odette. As one of the few AYCE sushi spots in the Windsor/Essex area, it will hold a special place in the hearts of many Windsorites. But… it’s just not very good. The place is rather large and can house quite a crowd. Located right on Wyandotte, close to the University, you’re inclined to see fellow students gather around. The sushi rolls are filled with more rice than fish, but that’s OK. The sushi pizza is a huge hit for most people as well. The hot foods are done decently well and the hand rolls are always a plus. They actually do a better job with their a la carte as they do offer some quick decent takeout. Hoi is a decent spot to come to if youre looking to eat massive amounts of sushi in a little time. It does do a good job of shelling out massive amounts of sushi to hungry, student debt laden kids and for that, we are forever grateful Hoi.

I love going to Hoi because the sushi is always great! I’ve been several times. The service, however, has never been outstanding. My last visit to Hoi I was not satisfied with my experience at all due to the rude waitresses, and constant forgetting/ignoring that we ordered things. They would refuse to bring us things that we ordered until we flagged them down and asked, to which they would reply they didn’t know if we still wanted it! We are eating the all you can eat menu, but they are incredibly resistant to us ordering a considerable amount of food! At one point after we ordered a few more rolls the waitress loudly scoffed at us in disbelief, which was very rude! Disappointed with the service and will think about finding a new sushi place in the future.

I have only been here for the all you can eat lunch buffet which is typically priced between 14.50−16.00 a person on a weekday. Overall, you its a good price for decent quality sushi and others. The chicken cutlets and cheese wontons are my favourite. As far as sushi, they offer a wide range of variety. MY favs are philadelphia, spicy crab, and mango crab. Service is average for the most part they are attentive. Sometimes you have to flag them down to put an order in. Watch out bwcause if you leave extra food that you waste they will charge you!

My friend works here. I’m only here for the fast service. The food is ok. But the price is a little bit higher for the evening buffet

I am really picky when it comes to Sushi, I love the Noble Fish in the states and when i tried Hoi, they were ok. Maybe because they are getting more business they’re fish seem a little fresher now, however when I order Sashimi they are still too thin. I went to Sake sushi and they’re sashimi is thick and perfect. salmon sashimi is pretty much all i eat and honestly Hoi can do better. as for they’re regular hot food they are good, the rice the cheese wonton and my friend said the bento are really good I never got one myself so no comment from me. Overall I wouldn’t purposely go unless im near the Uni or if my friends having a party there, I would rather eat Sushi else where if possible.

Food is disgusting, price is ridiculous high. But the worst thing is, the health and food condition are terrible that my friend and I even found a hair in the sushi and«fried banana». The most important thing is that the manager did not show any apology attitude. He just said«sorry and pay the bill» ! So terrible.

Been going since they opened. Service can be spotty, sure. Quality definitely varies some days. But, for the price(if you’re talking all you can eat), it’s a good deal. You’re sure to find something to satiate yourself.

When Hoi Sushi first opened before the other 10 all you can eat sushi restaurants opened, it was amazing. Later in the years it has gone through a downfall in service and food quality. Sushi pieces now are so small and are sloppy. I don’t know who’s making the sushi but they gotta go. Eel — my favourite thing — is not really good as before at Hoi. It’s too salty for some reason.

It’s gotten considerably better since the last time few times I’ve been here. I was waited on well. Water and tea were checked, menus were refreshed, and flagging down a waitress for questions wasn’t a problem. The food? It’s gotten better. It wasn’t served cold this time. Their tempura shrimp is tasty but I had to hack off 80% of the breading before there was the normal amount on it. Their hot and sour soup had no flavour, it was just spicy. Does that make sense? The spiciness had no flavour, it was just spicy. Miso soup was nice. Their eggplant was good too. We had several rolls which were good too. But their tempura california roll? It honestly tastes like they made the sushi roll and boiled it in water. Really no flavour and it was mushy. But if I had to compare this place to my last visits, MUUUUCHBETTER!(if I had to rate those past few times, it would’ve been a –5)

Nicely decorated and looks very clean. Our server did not speak english very well and so I could not understand her but she was very friendly and was trying to be very helpful. The food to my surprise was very good, sushi was well prepared from fresh ingredients. There was a few plates I didn’t care for but overall it was a great experience. I had my two year old daughter with me and they charged us 5 bucks for her which was okay because she surprisingly liked the food especially the tempura scallops:)

By far the worst japanese place I have ever been to. Service was super slow and the waitresses all looked like they were forced to be there. Sashimi was terrible. The fish had more fat in there than actual fish. Salmon was a pale pink color which made us lose our appetite right away. The rolls were very messy and rice was very soggy. Even green tea ice cream desert tasted like just sugar and ice. Absolutely the worst quality food I have ever had and I usually LOVE sushi. The wait staff kept walking around and watching us eat like prisoners. We didn’t finish a few pieces of a roll and she made just pay extra over the 50 dollar bill for the two of us. Absolutely ridiculous and the waitresses kept on swearing at us in Mandarin to the other staff(She didn’t know I can understand mandarin Chinese.) It was absolutely insulting and I will never ever return there. I have tried dozens of sushi restaurants all around the country and I must say, this is by far the worst and I would suggest everybody to stay away from it. Unless you want to be cursed at in Mandarin.

Wow. Service: Terrible. From the moment I walked in the door I felt like they just wanted us to leave. Seriously, we came in for dinner, and yes it was during dinner time. We were willing to wait to be seated but we only had a group of 5. Not 15. Not 8. 5 people. That’s not that big! Chill. They panicked and made me feel really unwelcome. Finally we get a tableWe waited around for service for some time– longer for the correct order sheets and umm– can I get a pencil?! Then there is the getting the sushi… Read on if you dare! Value: yeah… this is a fail– no, a FAIL! $ 24 all you can eat sushi might sound like it could be a good deal, but once it is paired with the bad service at Hoi, it quickly becomes a huge rip off. So you are asked not to order more than you can eat– okay, thats fair. But there are 5 of us… so we ordered a bit more than a table of two people might. It begins coming out, slowly. Roll by roll. I’m not going to say I am picky… but I am. I don’t eat everything that is coming out. Fine. I’m not starving, I can wait a bit longer. … Seriously– everyone else is getting their second order together– where is mine? Most of the stuff I ordered never came. NEVER. After an hour of being seated at Hoi I had paid $ 24 for what had amounted to a roll of sushi and a single tempura shrimp.(BTW; i asked if the tempura shrimp came with veggies– they said yes. Then I received a single, lonely tempura shrimp. Not amused.) Food Quality: I admit that the mountain roll is pretty tasty. Decent sushi– really. Tempura wasn’t bad either. The food was fine. The can have 1 star for the food itself. Atmosphere: I like the green color of the walls… ummm… Hoi looks alright. It feels like a cafeteria though cause the acoustics are terrible and it gets VERY loud in here! Headache anyone? Bonus — they let us bring in a cake and provided a knife and did not blink an eye when we lit birthday candles. I’ll add a second star! Overall– I love sushi. Hoi is not likely to be a place I will want to visit in the future.

Definitely is a good value for the money. But if you are looking for quality sushi, then this is not the place for you! I found the quality of the sushi declined, compared to when they opened. Most of the time they don’t get you the sushi you ordered, especially if your table order is big! I recommend you make a second copy of your order and compare after the server brings it to the table. The service is also not that great and most of the time you need to flag the servers. The spicy miso soup and the tempura shrimp are good. Again, it is good value, but I rather pay a little bit extra and get quality sushi.

For the price, it’s pretty good. 24 dollars at dinner or 16 at lunch for all you can eat. This doesn’t just include Sushi but it also includes any of the entrees on the menu. The sushi itself is decent. There isn’t something that really stands out but it’s all good, well prepared food. The service is a little slow and that could be because they seem busy all the time. People don’t come to the table often to check up on how you are doing or if you need anything, you kind of have to flag the staff down. Other than that it’s a solid place with a nice décor and decent food. You get a discount for paying cash instead of debit/credit so bring cash with you.

If you are looking to fill your belly with sushi at a great price, this is the place to do it. There is a decent selection of rolls, appetizers, sashimi, rice bowls, noodle bowls and desserts. Like any Sushi place, after a few visits you pick your favorites. A great place to go with a few friends, including the few who have never tried sushi, since the rolls aren’t too exotic. The Shrimp Tempura is wonderful, be sure to have an order of that. The service is usually pretty quick and every time I go the restaurant is a little busier… still, I’ve never had to wait for a table. The staff are very friendly and helpful. **Pay Cash, it’s a little cheaper. Close to the University, so there are plenty of students which makes the atmosphere very casual.

Pros: Lots of food decent price. Gives a discount if you pay cash. Took American at par. Cons: The quality of the food is lack luster at best. None of the rolls are particularly special. The sashimi is decent quality but is cut on the thicker side. Not a lot of parking. If you want lots of sushi in Windsor this is the place to go. If you want high quality sushi go to california sushi.

Stopped by here for lunch with a friend today. They have an all you can eat Sushi Dinner for 20 dollars Canadian. I wasn’t sure I wanted to eat a lot so I got 2 plates of sushi. At a lot of places if you order a few sushi plates the meal can get expensive fast. Here it was pretty reasonable. The service was decent, a little odd at times. One person came and took our order, then someone else came and took our order again. The menus were neatly designed and the place looked pretty clean. This is definitely a very good student sushi place. It’s not overly fancy, or expensive. I really liked the«deep fried mountain», and the parking situation was ok. I would probably go back there for sushi again if I were in Windsor.
