The restaurant was empty at 7:30 in the evening so we were a bit hesitant when we sat down. We orders the chicken teriyaki and Yami Tokyo bent box. The fresh fish sashimi was good but the shrimp sushi was rubbery. Overall not bad for a smart town like Windsor. Would have been nice if our green tea pot was refilled when it was empty.

I was convinced that there was no good Japanese food in Windsor. I am an admitted snob on this. Yami is up to the task. The sushi was good and the rice was done well. Eel, shrimp roll, oshinko, salmon; all very good. No «special» sauces or other jazzy additions. Just sushi. Gyoza, wakame, tempura udon-all very good. Good soup. I’ll be back.

Went in for our daughter’s birthday and let’s just say we were«underwhelmed» by the service and food. First off… the water served with no ice. Nothing beats warm tap water :-/then the sushi… every roll we got tasted the same: bland. The sushi for TWO combo comes with ONE salad and ONE soup… not sure how this combo is for TWO people. We were also one of two tables in the joint and they forgot our spicy mayo i had to go ask for it half way through my meal. Will not be going back to this place. Also they only have a 4 star food health compliance rating.

Been here around 5 times now. Pros: — Great service. One time, our orders took longer than usual and the server got us free starters(Yam soup) which were delicious. — Probably the best fusion restaurant in Windsor. Now, I know they don’t really list their selves as a «fusion restaurant», but the Japanese and Korean food here are very high-quality. I’ve tried the Combo Cupbob which allows you to select two meats instead of just the one. I took the Spicy Pork and Beef. Both were better than most of the Korean restaurants I’ve been to in Windsor. My favorite sushi items are the Dynamite Sushi Burritos, Dynamite roll, Mermaid Roll, and Marilyn Mon Roll. Cons: — Since I’ve only started going to this restaurant in the summer, bugs tend to come and go. There are 1 – 2 bees and a fly around the window seat area. I don’t recommend sitting there unless you want to keep swatting around your food! Other than that, the restaurant is amazing.

We had a lovely meal here. Sashimi and tempura were grand but the highlight of the night had to be the Korean hot dish we had as a main course! It was fantastic! I have never had a flavour like the sauce they used on it! Very different. I praised the waiter on it and it transpired he told me that all the staff were actually Korean. I wonder should they specialise in this style of cooking. Anyway, in short– would definitely go back. Staff were lovely, most helpful and diligent. Grub was great! Well done!

Pros: Great service, our waiter was very nice and attentive. He realized our orders had taken a little long and proceeded to give us free desert. The fish tasted fresh, rice in the sushi was normal, rolls did not fall apart. Cons: Price was steeper than AYCE compared to the portions, but not a huge deal since we went in expecting it.($ 12 — $ 15 a combo)

Yami is among the best options in Windsor if you’re a fan of mainstream, westernized sushi, by which I mean enormous rolls, often deep fried and invariably drenched in different mayonnaise-based sauces. The restaurant itself is much larger than it appears from the outside. In many ways, the same is true for the menu. I’ve never seen a longer menu at a sushi restaurant, there are quite literally hundreds of items to look at. Unfortunately this usually isn’t a great sign. Before ordering any rolls I was intrigued by their sashimi selection: specifically I haven’t seen mackerel many places in Windsor. I made a comment to that effect to my friend, and when I ordered four pieces, I was told they were out. So, the great search continues. I ordered fatty tuna instead. It was alright. It wasn’t popping with flavour, it was decorated with too many garnishes, and it was strangely very cold. We ordered the Scotia roll, the spider roll, the firemen roll, and the sushi squares. As I alluded to above, the sheer size of each piece was almost comical. For what they were, they were good: over-indulgent, rich comfort food. The firemen roll in particular was enormous, so fried and so saucy. Even the inside components were battered. The sushi squares looked kind of neat, and I will give Yami points for interesting plating. Yami, in my opinion, would be a great all-you-can-eat sushi place. They could get away with charging $ 25 a person. It has more variety and decadence than some of Windsor’s current all-you-can-eat options, such as Tenko or Hoi. And like those places, it’s sloppy. It’s not carefully, meticulously put together, and you don’t feel great after. It’s slapped together with uneven — but always extremely high — amounts of rice in each piece. I have to add, too, that the rice may be the worst part. It has less flavour than anything else, and high quality rice is something I have come to value in a sushi experience. I wasn’t surprised to learn on my way out that the chef was trained in the western world. He showcases that well. But if you prefer a nigiri or sashimi type of outing, where the fish itself is highlighted, I’d recommend somewhere else.

I came here on two separate occasions both with a friend. The first time I came here, we were seated by a friendly waiter. He was attentive and just overall had great customer service skills. Whenever I go to a new Japanese restaurant, I try their tempura udon but I wanted to order other things too. This place has ½ tempura udon(a half order) which is SO cool. I’ve never seen that before. So I ordered the ½ tempura udon, Scotia roll, and Dream of Eel. My friend had the Deep Fried California roll and the mochi green tea ice cream. The ½ tempura udon was delicious! They have bomb ass tempura shrimp here. I was hesitant about the soup since I don’t know if they could do it right and my god, they do it right. The Scotia roll has tuna, salmon, crab, cucumber, avocado and is topped with tobiko. Oh my god, they give you so much fish and an insane amount of shredded imitation crab for this roll. I actually prefer my imitation crab shredded. The Dream of Eel has their Dynamite roll as base(tempura shrimp, crab, avocado, cucumber + eel for this roll), and topped with avocado. It was delicious but surprisingly I found myself wanting more of the Scotia roll even though I love eel. My friend absolutely loved her D/F California roll and indulged in her mochi green tea ice cream. She really wanted to know where they bought their mochi(I told her some local Asian grocery stores sells them). But that just shows how invested she was. Also! We were very happy that Yami gives you 3 – 4 scoops of ice cream and not a lame one scoop like most restaurants do. My second visit was with another friend. I had their ½ tempura udon(again, because it’s so good and the soup makes me so happy) along with their Regina roll and Spider roll. My friend had the beef teriyaki and New York roll. The Regina roll has salmon, tempura shrimp, crab, cucumber and is stopped with tobiko. I did love this roll, don’t get me wrong, but the rolls were so cut so thin that my rolls were falling apart. They couldn’t hold their shape which was disappointing because I like to put the whole sushi roll in my mouth(not bite half and leave it messy). I was disappointed with their Spider roll. It was distinctly fried for a little too long(no visible burnt marks) as the batter was scraping the roof of my mouth as I bit into it. I had to use dig into the soft shell crab meat with my molars. This roll couldn’t hold itself together. Each and every roll fell apart. I hate wasting food but I couldn’t eat the last piece along with some extra soft shell crab(AND I LOVESOFTSHELLCRAB). My friend really liked his beef teriyaki and his New York roll although he did say his roll did have a little too much cream cheese but«It’s still good» is what he said. Both my friends and I would definitely come back here again to try out other things on their extensive menu.
