I’m wavering between 3 and 4 stars here. I love the atmosphere, but my biggest complaint, and possibly advice to any future diners, is that you order your appetizers and meals at the same time. The timing for the food to come out of the kitchen is pretty long and it wasn’t a terribly busy dining room to begin with. We ordered the beef carpaccio that was good, but capers would’ve added that extra bit of flavor. We also got the calimari and that was okay. Probably not as tasty as the calimari that you would get at Moxie’s. We ordered the beef medallions that was delicious and the risotto that was tasty, too. As a visitor to Winnipeg, I’m glad I got to try this place out, but not sure if I’ll come back before heading back to Las Vegas.

Looking for great Italian food in Winnipeg? Bombolini is the place. The little brother to Amici, this has much of the same great food, at a more comfortable price. We went here with the kids and were pleased to hear that they could easily accommodate my gluten free requirements. We started with the beef carpaccio(excellent job, perfect balance of flavours), the grilled shrimp(wonderful, not overcooked, delicious sauce!) and a salad(fresh greens with pine bust in the dressing — yum!). These were followed by a Sicilian pizza(delicious, light crispy crust with wonderfully fresh toppings), the veal marsala(gluten free scallopine with a mushroom marsala sauce — to die for!), the grilled lamb chops(tender, beautifully seasoned and absolutely delicious!), and the beef medallions(grilled perfectly and topped with a gongonzola and peppercorn sauce — fabulous!). The wine list is very good, with reasonably priced selections, so choosing a wine isn’t difficult. Service is excellent — friendly, professional and willing to accommodate changes. Very highly recommended!

Very sad to say that one of my go-to restaurants has not fared well in the last several visits. Food and service has been inconsistent. And now, the always expected soup/salad is not included anymore with your entrée. I wish they would just raise the prices of the entrees and keep the salad/soup. To me, that is what makes Bombolini stand out — their famous house salad with the pine nuts right before my the delicious main meal. Sigh. Even the bread basket has deteroriated — there use to be bread sticks and foccacia now it’s just plain white bread that was pretty sub par. Even service has suffered — from kitchen turnaround time to overall table side service. Even tried and true dishes are done incorrectly and simple requests of no breading on the veal are forgotten. Even tried my fave pasta dish, the Linguine con Zucca, Formaggio di Caprae Gamberi — roasted butternut squash, shrimp, caramelized onions and goat cheese was not prepared with the same consistency. Not sure what’s been going on with Bombolini and the Amici(as they share the same kitchen)…my last visit to Amici several months ago was a huge disappointment from a taste perspective.

This place was recommended in reviews so we gave it a shot. So glad we did!!! I don’t write a good review for nothing so listen up. The service, food, and atmosphere were perfect! Order the beet risotto!
