Note: this review is from 2012 but was reposted by Unilocal(in some kind of glitch/error). I have not been since and do not know what it is like currently. Not at all the amazing dining experience I was hoping for. The service was very good, they were all very friendly and knew a lot about the menu. The menu was not as vegetarian friendly as I had inticipated and we ended up only ordering a few apps. The toadstool puffs were very good but the flatbread we ordered was basically stone cold by the time we received it. Really dissapointed in the experience :(

Fude represents what Winnipeg needs more of for the restaurant scene! A serious restranteur who takes pride in delivering exceptional local flare food with a reasonable price and excellent selection! I had wanted to visit Fude since the early 2000’s when my old neighbour(Mr. Glen Murray) mentioned their signature dish was the Chocolate Chicken! I thought to myself… Chocolate Chicken??? Who mixes those two??? Well apparently they do it in Osborne Village! Before we ordered the server had mentioned to one in my party that if they checked in on Facebook and signed a sheet then they get buy one entrée and get the other for free. When I checked in on Unilocal there was a free appetizer offer. It was not to be combined with other offers though(totally understandable!) I think it’s excellent to see someone who really embraces technology and clever ways to promote his business with some deals! I eat at many hundred’s of restaurants a year and very few have clued into this! Bravo to you! Onto the food: We had ordered the Toadstool puffs as an appetizer! Nice flavour and texture! Next for me was the Edamame curry which came in noodles with some prawns and vegetables. Very plentiful on the edamame! The flavour was quite nice with hints of garlic and in a creamy curry sauce! My only negative was I thought the consistency a bit too gooey thick. With dinner I washed it down with a Farmery beer which I had never heard of but thought it to be quite good. The restaurant is nicely decorated with some local Winnipeg art which adds to the ambiance nicely! Someday I will return and give their Chocolate Chilli Chicken a go! :)

Fantastic! The food was delicious and fresh. I recommend the mussels, my favourite. The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable. I had the elk and it was amazing. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but unobtrusive. I am not one that knows wine and waitress helped pair wine to meal and did not chose the most expensive bottle. Dress was casual and did not feel underdressed.

Made it by here last nite and once again they provided a good meal with good service. We has always share our dishes I ordered the tandoori turkey which was perhaps the best turkey I have had in a long time. She order the curry special with a tofu substitution which turned out very good. SO in the end between the service the food, and their willingness to do a substitutions they get top marks from me. I guess I do not need to add we will make it back again.

I live right by food and it’s one of my favorite most reliable places to go for a great meal. The servers treat you like your their friend, which really gives the place a great vibe. Once when i was their alone in the lounge side having the wonderful chili chocolate chicken and a little scraper ipa, my server voluntarily found me something to read, which i thought was super thoughtful. the arctic char is also a great dish! The food is organic and locally grown for the most part and overall it’s fantastic. the arctic char is great also!

Consistenly above average food and service. I’ve been here half a dozen times during different hours(late and early dinner services) and I’ve always left happy. I highly recommend the Spice Dusted Berkshire Pork with the Rhubarb Chutney. Their chutney is one of the best.

Fabulous. It was great going with a group of four because we were able to share the different tastes. If you’re a foodie(i.e. food snob) like me. I highly recommend this quaint restaurant in the Osbourne district. If you’re looking for cheap though, this isn’t for you. Pricing is mid-ranged but it’s not bad if you’re on a date or taking a client out to dinner. Their sources are local and organic when it can be and they really pride themselves on that. A plus for that. They also have a «one-bite and if you don’t like it they take it back» policy for those who cant jump feet first into the pool of foodie goodness. My recommendations: I’m sure the menu changes because of the seasons but it seems as if they at least have some solid staples. The chocolate chili chicken was what got me to thinking that this place has some cajones to try something different.(if you think about it though, it’s pretty close to molé, which is a favorite Mexican dish of mine when done well). I ordered the menagé trois which is a sample of bison, pork and chicken. I also had their chowder and finished it off with the drunken granny for desert. I was able to try 3 other dishes that were ordered and to me, they all tasted great. If I lived in Winnipeg, I would consider coming here regularly so I could get the full experience of each dish. I’ll come back again for sure when I’m in town.

I’ve been here many times over the past few years and it has always been a consistent restaurant that provides warm, friendly service and good food. It’s located in Osborne Village on the second floor; there’s a small patio outside and inside there is a tiny lounge area on the right with a moderate sized dining room on the left. It’s a nice space filled with art work and warm tones. Reservations are a good idea since this place can fill up quickly especially on the weekends. I’d say the concept here is local food made with a twist… which can vary from a familiar«Canadian Regional» style to dishes that lean towards more Asian inspired. Some of the appy’s I’ve tried: P.E.I. Mussels Thai’d to a Coconut — one of my favs although they have switched to a red curry base in the last few years. My personal fav was the green curry base which I hope they’ll bring back. A rich creamy and flavourful sauce that I always mop up with the complimentary foccacia bread with a red pepper chili flaked dipping oil that comes with every dinner. Hyper Seared Tuna — seared sushi grade tuna rubbed in espresso. I wasn’t a fan of this as even before I ordered this, I sensed that the espresso rub would likely overpower the tuna, which is does. Cardini Salad — if you like Caesar salads, then you’ll like this one as it provides a slight twist from the usual Caesar. Apollo Goes to Juniper Salad — a nice light salad that’s reminiscent of a Greek salad although the components include more items than a Greek salad. The dressing is light and refreshing; good salad overall. Entrees: I love that all their fish are cooked to medium rare; nothing worse than overcooked fish! Flyin’ High Pickerel — encrusted with Manitoba hemp seed nuts in citrus chardonnay cream. I couldn’t really taste the hemp seeds and the cream sauce needed a bit more acid as I couldn’t taste the citrus that well. The ginger lime basmati rice provides a good acidic balance to the fish. The cabbage and root vegetables are well seasoned and delicious as sides. Black ‘n’ White Sesame encrusted Manitoba Arctic Char with House made Chilled Lemon Wasabi Cream — you need to like sesame seeds since the fish is covered with it. It provides a nice crush and nutty flavour and goes well with the wasabi cream. Chili Chocolate Chicken — dark chocolate sauce and a spicy cayenne cream and chilies. I had this a long time ago, this is not as weird as it sounds… it’s not like melted chocolate is poured onto the chicken. It’s a cream base sauce where you taste a hint of of the smokey chocolate flavour. The bison and elk tenderloin dishes are great here! The Herb Stuffed, Bacon Wrapped Manitoba Bison Tenderloin is on the regular menu and the Elk appears on the specials. Both are best eaten medium rare since they are such lean meats. The sauces have changed over the years but they are always nicely paired with the meat. A fav was the New York strip with an espresso sauce from a couple of years ago. They also hold a wine pairing dinner event every month — five courses with two wine pairings each course. It’s a fun evening to try a number of wines although the meal portion sizes are smaller compared to the regular sizes you’d get off the menu. Lots of wines by the glasses and martinis to try. I never really order sangria but I love their white wine sangria with mango — not too sweet but great for sipping on a hot summer night on their patio. Appy’s are about $ 7 – 13 and entrees are usually average $ 27 with the bison and elk dishes at $ 37. As noted by other reviewers, it’s a good idea to sign up for their online mailing list as there’s always info about free appy or sangria weekends.

I went to Fude when it first opened way back when and I have to admit I was turned off. I wasn’t impressed and told myself I wasn’t going to return, until just a couple of days ago when my fiancé and I were looking for a wine bar around Winnipeg where we can drink some good wine and have a little snack. Needless to say we ended up at Fude and to my extreme surprise, I was totally impressed this time. Things around there have sure changed! Our server has some great wine recommendations, we have the Casa Silva Carmenere which was full bodied and a smooth finish. Then we also had a Shiraz but can’t remember the name, but it was also very yummy. After browsing the menu, my fiancé and I decided that the appetizers just looked so good, we would simply order a few appetizers that the restaurant can make into tapas. We had the Bruschetta that was very delicious, Chili Chocolate Chicken Skewers that were ok(but very tender), the toadstool puffs that I would order again and recommend to anyone that likes sautéed mushrooms, garlic, goat cheese stuffed into a puffed pastry. Delicious I must say. But my ultimate favorite item we ordered was the Hyper Seared Tuna. Who would have thought that tuna and espresso ground beans would be such an amazing combination? The tuna melted in my mouth! The espresso crusted seared tuna also had this amazing soy sauce drizzled on top. The best tasting tuna I’ve ever had! And not only is the food at Fude incredible delicious, they are large supported of local farmers. Most items on the menu is found locally. Great work Fude! I’ll be seeing you guys again soon!

My wife and I decided to try this place after hearing about it friends. Based on their positive responses and their descriptions of the interesting entrees we had our expectations pretty high. The atmosphere was great. Nice lighting, spacious, just trendy enough without seeming like they were trying too hard. We were especially impressed with the amount of local meat and produce offered on the menu. We started our meal with the chocolate chicken skewers, my wife ordered the fish and had the steak. Our entrees alone were almost $ 30, and when our food arrived, we were completely underwhelmed. Both dishes lacked any kind of taste justifying the price. The side of potatoes got me more excited that the steak did. On top of that, our server seemed to forget about us after bringing us our entrees and didn’t return until bringing the check. Overall, for the price you pay, I wouldn’t recommend it. It could just be my taste, but I don’t think we’ll go back.

I keep coming back to Fude whenever I’m in town. Local ingredients, awesome service and a great patio to sip sangria at night. Sign up for their online flyer and get coupons and VIP invites to their wine tasting nights.
